Mayweather Vs Khan has been signed apparently. On paper it should be extremely one-sided but considering the one weakness Floyd has works to Khans advantage, maybe not so much.

Bucs up 2 games to 1 after blowing another 8th inning lead. Morton vs. Wacha tomorrow, with 14 of the last 15 DLS being won by the team up 2-1. Too early to buy Dodgers tix?

We'll make it through. Being at tonight's game reassured me that will at least win this series because of how raucous our crowd is and the fact that the Pirates seem to want it.

Unrelated note had a pretty awful time at the game today but not going to divulge particularities.

I know sports are pretty much controlled by television these days but would it really be so bad to have two MLB playoff games on at the same time? TBS has most of the division series games so they could put one game on TBS and another on TNT during prime time. Do they really think people are available to watch every game when they air them throughout the day starting at 1:00 eastern? It would be nice if I could choose between Red Sox vs. Rays and Cardinals vs. Pirates right now. Instead I have to miss most games because like most people I’m working during the day. What’s the big deal if the baseball audience is split between TBS and TNT during prime time when most people aren’t able to watch the day games anyway? I don’t think TNT would suffer much if those Castle reruns from 2009 went on a little hiatus. I’d be pretty upset if I was an A’s fan and my team’s playoff game started at 10:00 in the morning on a Monday.

Or if they put it on a channel that isn't on most basic packages. I know this may sound shocking, but college dorms don't provide MLB Network. Instead I had to use a shitty stream to watch most of the game.

Did anyone know that USA us actually in the Rugby League World Cup in England this year?

I don't know who in America actually plays or knows what Rugby league is or even Rugby Union for that matter, just thought it would be interesting to see how many Americans would actually notice it and take an interest.

It is international competition after all and USA have an ok chance of making it out of their group which is against other nations relatively unfamiliar with the sport.

USA go up against Wales, Cook Islands, Scotland, Tonga and Italy.

Those nations might all be able to defeat USA but Americans should consider themselves lucky that they haven't been grouped in with the only 3 countries that have an actual chance of winning the cup being England, New Zealand and Australia. Not necessarily in that order.

What this means is there will be some matches where USA won't be utterly obliterated so it could be fun to sit back, get a big bowl of nachos and a shit load of beer and enjoy a high impact contact sport which you don't get a chance to see.

I doubt it will actually be broadcast in America but with technology these days and wikipedia we can all find out what channels its on around the world and find them online for free. All you need to do is look up how on youtube.

I don't have cable anymore its now an unnecessary expense. Take that television oligarchs.

Something that crossed my mind the other day; in my entire life the only teams to play each other in the World Series more than once were the Braves and Yankees. They played each other in 1996 and 1999. Pretty surprising it hasn't happnd more often, but with the Cardinals win tonight I will see my second World Series repeat.

The winner of Halloween came from the world of sports. This local sports anchor from Boise pulled off a nice Ron Burgundy, keeping the co-anchors in stitches and even taking over the weather forecast.

Have there always been finalists for the MLB awards? I don't remember any list of candidates in the past. I just remember the winners being announced. I'm guessing this whole finalist thing is just so MLB Network can have another show to air during the off season.

The Tigers have agreed to trade Prince Fielder to Texas for Ian Kinsler. Honestly, I'm fine with the trade. Omar Infante is a free agent so Detroit needed a second baseman and this trade saves them $8 million. Now Cabrera can move back to 1st which will help him stay healthy.

Texas will receive cash, it's being reported. Not clear if other players are in the deal.

Seems like a win/win from here. Texas gets the middle of the order power bat they've been wanting while trading from a position of excess, as Profar can take over second with ease, while Detroit gets a good solution at second, is able to move Miggy back where he belongs, and clears a path for Castellanos to the bigs.

EDIT: 30 million goes from Detroit to Texas in the deal to offset the difference in contract size.

The Tigers still save a ton of money. 8 mill a year for the next 2 years, then 10 mill in 2016, 13 mill in 2017, at least 12 mill in 2018 plus Prince would have been signed 2 more years through 2020 at 24 mill a year. Just through 2018 it saves them 51 mill and they only gave up 30 plus the 48 mill they save from 2019-2020. Definitely a win win.

I'm even slightly inclined to call it more in Detroit's favor based on the longer term projections, but overall I think both teams did nicely in the deal.

One interesting notion is what the lack of protection will do for Cabrera. Cabrera was still nearly as good before Fielder as he has been with him, but it's pretty hard to argue that his two best seasons came with Fielder behind him in the order. If the Tigers don't add another hitter, presumably Martinez will back up Cabrera, so it will be very intriguing to see what 2014 Cabrera does at the plate.

EDIT: And we could also look at the converse argument of what will Adrian Beltre look like at the plate with Fielder hitting behind him now. Could he be the third baseman that becomes MVP in 2014 as a result of this deal? Who knows.

Cabrera will be fine. In 2012 Martinez missed the entire year and Cabrera was tremendous. Victor doesn't have the power of Prince but is an overall better hitter. This may cause his numbers to go down slightly but he'll still be dominant with Victor hitting behind him.

Not only does Cabrera move back to first but their top prospect, Nick Castellanos, gets to move back to his more natural third base position. They lost some offense but are now much better defensively.

While literally anything is better than Cabrera at third, Castellanos isn't really a stellar third baseman in his own right. I'm not saying he'll be as bad as Cabrera or anything - the Tigers get a boost here for sure - but he's no Beltre over there.

Castellanos was awful as an outfielder defensively but was decent at third before switching. Considering Fielder is probably the worst defensive first baseman in baseball, Cabrera is an upgrade there. Iglesias at short full time is an obvious upgrade over Peralta. The Tigers still have plenty of money to work with to not only resign Scherzer but to also add some bullpen help and possibly pick up another bat.

Wow, what a huge trade. I think it's a good one for both teams. More under the radar because of the big trade is Josh Johnson signing with the Padres for one year. This is a good move. Saying Johnson is injury prone is an understatement but he has a big upside. I don't see the Padres contending next year but if Johnson is anything like he was a few years ago they can turn him into some good prospects at the trade deadline.

I just heard Chris Carpenter retired. Just another one of many great pitchers to be ruined by injuries. Such a great talent. Too bad he couldn't stay healthy. Dare I say he may have been Hall of Fame bound if he wasn't injured so much
