The Sports Bar

ESPN is pretty terrible for this sort of thing. Ever watch their baseball coverage? They'll spend at least half of it talking about the Phillies, Yankees, and Red Sox, even if they didn't do anything at all important that day. If you can, look into getting the sports networks. They're so much better.

Yeah it's amazing at how much more quality MLB Network is then ESPN.

ESPN is awful at covering pretty much all sports. That's why I rarely watch it anymore. I'll just check out NFL Network or watch the NBA coverage on TNT if I want any kind of news. Also, Twitter is quite useful when it comes to sports news. I caught an episode of the NBC Sports Network's SportsCenter-type show, and it blew SportsCenter out of the water.

ESPN basically caters to the big markets. It makes sense as to why they do this, but it's extremely annoying.

Yankees make some big moves tonight.

-Traded Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi to Seattle for Michael Pineda and Jose Campos
-Sign Hiroki Kuroda to a one year, $11 million deal.

So now the rotation is CC, Pineda, Kuroda, Nova, and Garcia/Burnett/Hughes.

Wow.

I know, right? Here the Yankees are plodding along having the most boring of offseasons, and then suddenly swoop in, and in a matter of minutes explode and make everyone look like chumps. I hate those bastards, but goddamn did they make some nice moves. Unless the Red Sox answer appropriately soon (and I don't know that they can), the AL East is nearly a certainty for them.

Certainty? I don't know about that. There's no such thing as paper champions. Injuries could bite em. Pineda could struggle. CC can struggle. Who knows. I won't label champions in January. Well not yet at least...

Yeah, this is fair. Injuries are always a reality. Pineda struggling is something I could buy, CC not so much. I mean, he could, but I'd be very surprised. If the rosters as they stand now were to go into spring training, I would pick the Yankees to win if I wanted a safe bet.

My beloved Yankees, showing why they're the best in the world once again. :worship:

You would be a Yankees fan.

Now they're calling around for a hitter to become the DH. I wouldn't mind bringing back Matsui or Damon to fill that role.

Might be smarter to just fill it internally. 2012 may even see Jeter or A-Rod spend time there. But there are a lot of names that could sign to one year deals and be decent. Pena, Chavez...Manny, dare I say it? Matsui or Damon work too. They'll figure it out.

The Red Sox pretty much have no option but to sign Oswalt now.

They could go that route. They could platoon A-Rod, Jeter and Tex at DH, and then give people like Nunez, and Laird playing time.

But Chavez, Pena, Matsui, or Damon would be pretty good in that role. Believe it or not though, I wouldn't mind Manny too much - but I don't think the Yanks would sign him considering he would have to serve a 50 game suspension first.

And in 1 hour, the Yankees improve their team more then anyone not named the Angels.

Yankees rotation at 5 PM tonight: CC, Nova, Hughes, Garcia, AJ Burnett

Yankees rotation now: CC, Pineda, Nova, Kuroda, Garcia/Hughes/Burnett.

Montero is an excellent hitter, but he is nothing more then a DH, so losing him is not a bad thing at all.

The Yankees best course of action is to re-sign Andruw Jones, let him DH vs. Lefties, and let A-Rod/Jeter/Teixeira/Cano DH vs. Righties and start Nunez at Third/Short/Second and Swisher at 1st.

I wouldn't mind the Yankees re-signing Damon though either, letting him DH half the games and splitting the rest of the DH with A-Rod.

Either way, Nunez needs to get some serious time this year.

Yeah I'm fairly certain I've got the NHL Network and the MLB Network. For sure NFL. Not sure about NBA. It's just a habit that I flip SportsCenter on since I've probably missed the local morning sports on Comcast Sportsnet.

Didn't the Yanks already sign Andruw Jones? I could be mistaken but I thought that already happened.

Yeah. One year, 2 million.
Honestly, with the lack of offseason activity and the football/hockey season, that totally skipped my mind.

Good. Andruw Jones is a good 4th Outfielder/DH.

The Yankees need Nunez to get 350 Plate Appearances this season though. Give the old guys on the left side of the Infield a blow. Not to mention Nunez could be the potential replacement for either one.

If you have Satellite/Digital Cable, you likely have MLB. And I bet NBA Network too.

Honestly, your best bet for national Sports Highlights is the sports networks, or ESPNews, which is actually pretty decent, as they are much more about highlights and news instead of analysis.

Pineda is an exceptional talent... excellent trade by the Yankees. Way to sell high on those bums Lars Anderson and Jose Iglesias, Theo. At one point, they would have been the centerpiece of a deal to bring a legit starting pitcher to Boston. Their respective ceilings are being comparable to Adam LaRoche and Rey Ordonez.

And roughly $30 million worth of mediocre starting pitchers will be on the DL all season (Lackey and Dice-BB) but they're better off serving the team there anyway.

For all his talk about being a "wunderkind", he is really a pretty mediocre GM.

:lmao: No he's not. He found David Ortiz and Kevin Millar, key pieces to their first (and Second as well for Ortiz) title. No GM/executive is gonna pull the right trigger every time. He has done it more often then not. 2 titles in 9 seasons is a pretty good track record, with a few more playoff appearances as well.

And I'd still take quite a few (7-8) rotations before the Yankees. It's much better now, but there's still a few with more talent and potential.

He might have found Ortiz, but the 2004 team was still half of Dan Duquette's doing. He did some good, but really, he had some atrocious signings/trades towards the end of his tenure and it's kind of screwed us.

Notre Dame just pulled a major coup, by reportedly getting top QB prospect Gunner Kiel to decommit from LSU and commit to the Irish.

This is a good day for Notre Dame, as they very well may now have their QB for 2012, 2013, 2014, and maybe 2015.
