The Sports Bar

Gabbert is going to start Thursday against the Patriots. I'm really excited, but I'm not expecting much at all from the team. Maurice Jones-Drew, Aaron Kampman, Derek Cox, Matt Estrada, Chris Prosinski, Eben Britton and Cecil Shorts aren't making the trip and Marcedes Lewis and Terrance Knighton aren't going to play.
 
I'm working on a pretty interesting article right now. I'm trying to find out who the best NFL quarterback is and I'm using the 2010 stats to figure it out. I am listing the top 20 quarterbacks in each of the following categories:

Completion percentage
Yards
Yards per Game
Touchdown Passes
QB Rating

I am going to find the average position of each player and then use that to make the list. For example, QB A finishes 8th in Completion Percentage, 5th in Yards, 3rd in Yards per Game, 6th in TD's and 4th in QB Rating, he will average out to 5.2.

Quarterbacks are going to have to be in the top 20 in all categories to be eligible and I've already had to eliminate quarterbacks such as Josh Freemen, Kyle Orton, Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez because they failed to make the top 20 in at least one category.

I am going to make a list of the 13 quarterbacks who are eligible to be ranked and I will write the article in the next few days. If this goes well, I will also do running backs, wide receivers and tight ends.

Yeah, Bill Parcells version 3 is great. as is Jerry Rice version 1....

you meant to say ADDITIONS, not EDITIONS. Parcells is a great add, he was great when he was on in 2009 and 2002. Rice we'll see, I don't know if he ever did media. He's the best receiver ever, but don't know how good he is at being an analyst.

I've heard Jerry Rice a little bit on First Take a few times. He seems alright, but I'm curious what he's like when breaking down games and whatnot.
 
Damn, shit might be going down in college football. Big time smoke coming out of Texas A&M going to the SEC. The super concerned thing might happen.

Yes I know what I meant to say. I typed it quickly and I don't really proof read non spam posts often. Jerry Rice has been on ESPN before as kind of a guest analyst and I liked what I saw from him.

From a quick glance at the stats I'm gonna guess Rivers is #1. Although I don't think he's the best QB.

And I don't think yards + yards/game is a great measurement because someone like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers dont even have 500 attempts but Manning and Brees have almost 450 completions, so of course their numbers will be skewed. Yards/attempt I think would be a better measurement there (with a minimum requirement of attempts) since it's more of an average and won't penalize guys with a handful less attempts. Rating I'd say is another good option, as would TD/INT ratio (compared to just TDs, since guys with more attempts will likely have more TDs) although TD/INT ratio would be a bitch to calculate.

Not trying to hate on your system, but I think theres some adjustments that could be made. Counting stats like yards and TDs aren't always a true indicator of how good a QB is because he may have 150 more attempts then the other guy. I know I probably could've saved this for your actual thread, but its here anyways.

Good points. I was going to include some of those things in the write up about each player, but now I'm thinking about going back and recalculating with the average per attempt being included. It doesn't look like it will make much of a difference, if any, but I'll see what happens.
 
I've figured out for my article that I'm only going to use completion percentage, average yards per attempt and QB Rating to calculate the results. When I get the eligible players, then I'll do the TD to INT rating of those players.

So basically, I'm starting from scratch, but I think it will be more effective.

EDIT: Scratch that. My goal to begin with was to find the quarterback who statistically had the best year in 2010. I'm going to use my original set of criteria with the addition of average yards per attempt. I think that is the best way to find out who was statistically the best QB last season.

By adding in average yards per attempt, Jay Cutler, Matt Ryan and Carson Palmer fell from the list. There are now 10 players who make up my list. That same category caused Aaron Rodgers to climb way up the list and Peyton Manning and Drew Brees to fall down several spots.
 
It's not even sexual assault, it's accusations from some bitchy little girl who wants to be in the media. It's not even that, it's accusations from some bitchy little girl's friends, who want to be in the media.

Don't forget their story changed about 4 times.
 
Well we got Jerricho Cotchery for a one year deal. That's pretty cool, I'm glad to see we got one name.

I'll be interested to see him tomorrow night. Edit: Turns out he won't be playing tomorrow night, but I'm interested to see him next week.
 
In somewhat kinds almost cool news, the Jacksonville Sharks won the Arena Bowl on the last play of the game last night. I flipped it on just in time to catch the last minute, where there were three touchdowns scored. It's kinda cool that Jacksonville won, but it is just making me want to see regular season NFL even more.
