What's really good?
It's been a busy summer for me, but I've been following my Braves. If it wasn't for those damn Phillies and their pitching rotation from Hell. Can't wait for them to get that 10,000th win though hopefully I'll be able to attend the game.
I've been reading some news and (if the news is true) its becoming more and more likely that the lockout will be ending sometime soon (i.e. the next week or so).

So for two straight games the Giants have had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out in the bottom of the 9th against Heath Bell with the score 5-3, and both times they have come up short. Not exactly the way I would have hoped it would finish. And our top 2 guys (Timmy and Cain) both didn't have their stuff.
So Champ, what do you know about Jonathan Sanchez? Is he really hurt or just on the DL with a bogus injury because he was struggling. I have him on my fantasy team and he's been a big disappointment. He gets strikeouts and doesn't give up many hits but he walks the world and they always come in to score. Should I hang on to this guy or just cut him loose?

This DL stint has nothing to do with an injury and everything to do with his struggles and mental issues. When this guy is on, he's on. His stuff is nasty and he can hang with the best of 'em. Problem is, that doesn't always happen. For him, it's all in his head. And the walks, yes, he can't seem to get a start without walking 5, 6 guys.
As far as what to do with him, it's tough to say. He's so up and down its hard to figure out just how well he will do. I would say if you can afford to ride him and deal with his streakiness (real word?), then do it because I'm sure he's going to put in some good starts. But if you can't, then don't risk it. I don't see him being consistant enough when he gets off the DL.

Well, Zito is on a roll. 8 innings last night, 1 run, striking out 7 and walking only 1. That goes along with the 6 shutout innings against the Tigers and 2 runs over 7 in his first start back. He seems to have found a groove and it has to be the confidence he has gotten. Nice to see him pitch well.
That was expected. He made it fairly clear that last year would probably be his last comeback attempt and it obviously didn't last long. Guys with his type of height just find it nearly impossible to stay healthy for long. Rick Smits is one of the few exceptions.
Mackey's stats for a TE at his time were certainly remarkable, and he in a sense defined what a pass catching TE in today's NFL looks like. He was also involved in one of the most famous plays in NFL history in Super Bowl V, when the pass from Unitas deflected off two players to him and he set the record at the time, I believe, for the longest play from scrimmage in Super Bowl history. Correct me if Im wrong, but wasn't he either the first or second head of the NFLPA? RIP indeed.

And the guy that caught the ball gave it back to him for nothing. Dare I say it, but that's very Jeter-like. Of course the Yankees hooked him up for doing that (bunch of memorabilia, front row tickets today, and a suite for the remainder of the season).

I'm surprised you haven't. Everyone is saying that Jeter has an obligation to be there because he was voted by the fans. They're saying him being there is a celebration for 3000 hits. I'd rather be with Minka Kelly than in Arizona. Selig said he would have done the same thing as Jeter.
Anyone catch Curtis Granderson's comments about WWE during the All Star game? Said WM23 was the greatest event he ever attended and childhood favorites were JYD, Savage, and of course Hulk. Very random to throw this in during the game but it was cool to see.
