The Sports Bar

Gibson's second dunk was better then the first. Both were ridiculous though. This is the best Chicago has played all playoffs. I picked Miami in the series based off what I saw in the playoffs thus far but Chi Town will win this series if they keep playing like they did tonight.

OKC blew it. I'm hoping Dallas can take out Miami in the finals and I'm fairly confident they can. I don't see OKC or Chicago making comebacks to win their respective series.

I suspect you are correct, I think OKC and Chicago are done. Personally I would love to see the Mavs win. They have been close for years but have always fallen short. Would be nice to see Dirk's work and skills rewarded with a championship. Even with Cuban's occasional lunacy, no one can accuse him of being less than passionate about his team and not doing pretty much whatever he can to win.

For me, anyone but the Heat.

No one one the Mavs roster has ever won a title, which is pretty remarkable considering the age of their team as a whole. It would be great to see veterans like Dirk, Jet, Marion, Kidd, Peja, etc.. get a title.

I fuckin hate the Mavs as an organization, basically just because Mark Cuban is a massive douchebag, but I honestly cant think of a single player on that roster that I don't like. If they do pull it off, I wont be too mad, J-Kidd deserves a ring just as much as anybody, and this is more than likely his last chance.

So the Yankees won today.

More importantly, Mariano Rivera finished the game (not a save, but he hasn't pitched in a week). This appearance was his 1000th of his career (thus his 1000th with the Yankees), making him the first pitcher to ever make 1000 appearances with one team.

Random thoughts:

-Very disappointed with the ending of the Sharks' season. They put up a hard fight in Game 5, but that effort should have been there in Game 4 with....well, no point in getting worked up now. That's not to say they had a bad season. Just, expectations were there for more and again they aren't met. However, no reason to destroy this team and rebuild. All the pieces are there, just need to get back at it next season.

-its a damn shame what happened to Buster. Hurts the Giants big time with him out of the lineup. While Whiteside may be ok, they are going to need to step up all around and find a bat that can be close to what Posey brought to the lineup. However, there is no need for overreaction about the play. It was a clean play and an unfortunate result. This will fuel the fire though that Posey shouldn't be catcher, but rather playing First base. Interesting to see the direction the Giants take when he returns.

-I'm taking the Mavs against the Heat. Although that's hard considering how the Heat are playing right now. I just feel like the Mavs know this is most likely their last chance at a ring and I expect them to be at their best. Haslem and Miller showing up has been big for the Heat, but I don't know if that will be sustained. Either way, this should be a great Finals to cap what has been an excellant NBA playoffs.

-Seems like Tiki Barber can't do anything right. Holocast references are a no-no, no matter what. He's gotta be smarter than that.

-Glad they caught one of the guys who beat Stow. 1 down, 2 to go.

-Hopkins looked great for 46. Doest look like he's going to slow down anytime soon. And as good as Hopkins looked, Roy Jones Jr. looked just as bad. Damn shame his career has to end like this. I think Hopkins was right when he was on the Jim Rome Show and basically the reason Jones is having these issues is because he was so talented that he didn't need to learn the basics. He could just rely on his talent. Now that he's getting older and his skills are diminishing, he doesn't have those basics to rely on, thus we see the result.

Just revived a thread that's always gotten attention in the stadium - hall of fame or not.

And this Game 7 is awesome. Looks like the first goal will be the only goal.

Whats up fellas? I come back and find this on the second page.

Hockey going back to the Peg, game 1's tonight and tomorrow, Jim Tressel out, and most importantly, Jeter less than 20 hits away from 3000.

Hockey going back to the Peg,
Sad for Atlanta, as they have now lost their second hockey franchise. Now I doubt they will ever get hockey again.

game 1's tonight and tomorrow, Jim Tressel out
Go Mavs and Canucks.

and most importantly, Jeter less than 20 hits away from 3000.
Hells to the yes. The way he's hitting now, he should have a really good shot to get to 3K on the upcoming 10 game Homestand, which starts on Monday or Tuesday. He's heating up, and is seemingly getting back to the point where he will likely be for the rest of his career, .270+ average, scoring a bunch of runs, and playing acceptable to better then average defense (he won't be at short by 2013).

Oh, and one more thing. BARTOLO M-F'IN COLON! Hot fucking damn. He's finally injury free this year, and Christ he's pitching his ass off (OK, well, not exactly, as he's still rather portly, but you get the idea). I don't expect it to last through the Summer, but you never know. That stem cell procedure he had done last year must have worked wonders.

NBA Finals tonight. Only 5 teams have won the NBA title since 1999 and only 3 teams have represented the Western Conference in the Finals since 1999.

Go Heat! Honestly I hope its a good series though. Should be interesting.

In other news my Rays are playing right now against the American League Champs. It's scoreless. Bottom of the 2nd.

Oh we don't have a hockey franchise again? Well it doesn't really matter, the only time I can think of anybody in Atlanta talking about the Thrashers is the year they came here and the year they got the 3rd spot in the EC Playoffs. I can't wait for the game tonight just got to get through this 2 hour Math class. Thankfully, it's required to use our laptops in class.

I just saw the first ballots of leading vote getters in the AL and this is a reason why I hate the fan voting. 6 of the 9 spots belong to Yankees, and another one is to a guy that's been hurt for a majority of the first half (Josh Hamilton). Looking at it, they've gotten about half right, them being:

Cano
A-Rod
Bautista
Granderson

Otherwise, I'd put in Gonzalez (with Cabrera as the backup) at 1st, Asdrubal Cabrera at SS (Yunel Escobar as Backup), Alex Avila at Catcher (only slightly homer call and when you compare his stats to other guys right now he's doing better then most; Martin as backup) Matt Joyce as the other OF, and Big Papi as DH. And Weaver getting the nod slightly over James Shields.

Just goes to show you how bad the fan voting is. I know it's still early, but it wouldn't be shocking to me to see 2/3's of the starting lineup filled with Yankees, even if 1/2 of them aren't the best options.

(this wasn't meant to be a yankee hate rant btw, but they were the ones with 6/9 of the players on the team when I think even they would tell you they weren't deserving. This was more of a rant on fan voting. I know you have to keep the fans involved somehow, but some of these choices are just head scratching.

Correia is gonna pick up his league leading 8th win today. Unless the Bucco's fall apart. They entered the 7th without a RISP. Then they had 7 or 8 hits and 5 were infield singles. Correia has been an excellent pickup. Hopefully he sticks around.

So Shaq finally retired today. No disrespect to the future hall of famer but it's about time. Probably should have called it quits about three years ago. Either way a great career.

If Correia wins his 8th game tonight. It'll be the first time since 1960 a Pirates pitcher had the league lead in wins this late in the seson.

This thread is on Page 3. What the hell, guys.

Oh, and Joba Chamberlain needs Tommy John. Fuck. That's yet another reliever down for the Yankees (Marte, Feliciano, Soriano, now Joba). God fucking damn.

Wouldn't be surprised if they got some Bullpen help now.

Aaron Rowand was recently on a Chicago radio show and was asked if he thought players felt pressure to live up to huge contracts. Rowand said that fans need to realize that players get those contracts for what they did not for what they’re expected to do. How ass backwards is that? I’m sure a current owner would be thrilled to learn that he is paying millions to a player who already did his best work for the enemy.

You're right, it's rather ass backwards to say something like that. However, he is partially correct.

Athletes are given huge money based on what they have done in the past. If they were to be paid based on their expected future output, then guys like Strasburg and Bryce Harper (guys whose expectations are among the highest in all of Baseball) would be the highest paid players, and not Alex Rodriguez or Albert Pujols, who are either on the tail end of their prime or past it.

HOWEVER, that doesn't mean they aren't being paid to produce at that same level currently. That's where Rowand is wrong. He is being paid based on a combination of his past output and expected future output. If it was based solely on past, then Derek Jeter (or any old veteran past his prime) wouldn't have gotten a paycut this past offseason.
