The Sports Bar

Calvin McGee is Pitt's new Offensive Coordinator... I love Graham's interview. "We want to be a physical football team. Can't be physical with four wide receivers"

"We are not a spread team, we are a no huddle offense. This system has had a 5000 yd passer, 4000 yd passer, 1000 yd rusher,1000 yd receivers.."
I'm so excited...

Trevor Hoffman retires. Absolute first ballot hall of famer.

Now Mariano Rivera should likely surpass him for Career Saves by June of 2012 (Mariano has 559, Hoffman 601).

But you're right, he will be a sure-fire Hall of Famer. Although I think he will NOT first ballot guy. (Exclusively) relief pitchers don't get in on the first ballot, and I doubt they would change that for Hoffman (IF they change that, it'll likely be with Rivera, but even with him they might not). I think he'll be similar to Alomar, in that he comes up short in year one, then in year 2 he gets almost all the votes.

Now, it's really personal.

Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, taking the baton from Rex Ryan, who criticized Tom Brady's post-touchdown "antics" earlier this week, ripped into the Patriots quarterback in a profanity-laced rant Tuesday, calling him an "ass----," and claiming he hates him.

Ryan set the tone by saying it was just "Brady being Brady," referring to his finger-pointing to the Jets sideline after his touchdown pass gave the Patriots a 38-3 lead on the first play of the fourth quarter on Dec. 6 in Foxborough on the way to New England's 45-3 humiliation of the Jets in their first-place showdown.

Cromartie, in his first year with the Jets after four years with the Chargers, backed up Ryan Tuesday when he was asked by the Daily News if he's ever seen Brady pointing after the Patriots score.

"We see that a lot. He does it a lot," Cromartie said. "That's the kind of guy he is. We really don't give a damn, to tell you the truth."

Okay, what kind of guy is Brady?

"An ass----.

"---- him."

Cromartie just raised the stakes even higher for the Jets in their divisional round playoff game Sunday in Foxborough. With Ryan first taking on Brady on Monday and then Cromartie taking it off the charts, the Jets surely run the risk of raising the QB's already stated hatred of the Jets to a world-record level.

Brady will not likely respond to Cromartie. That is not his style. He will just try to burn him for four touchdowns on Sunday. Just as Bill Belichick will not be drawn into Ryan's declaration that this game is him vs. Belichick.

But Belichick and Brady hate the Jets so much that the Pats QB played the whole way in the 45-3 game. Why does Cromartie feel this way about Brady?

"That's what I think about him. I don't really give a damn about him," he said. "I don't have to play against him. I play against the receivers."

Well, Brady is the one throwing to those receivers. "Yeah, but if I beat the s--- out of his receivers, he can't throw the ball," Cromartie said.

Cromartie says Brady's antics are evident when the Jets watch the film of their games against the Patriots. "He's doing the pointing at our defensive line and stuff like that," Cromartie said. "That's the kind of a guy he is. He's a competitor, he loves what he's doing. He's going to compete. When you're competing, you are not worrying about anything else, about what anybody else is doing. You're just worried about what you have to do."

Really Cromartie? I love how the Jets are trying to get under the Pats skin, and the Pats keep shaking it off with very lame answers.

And hopefully Brady throws 3 TD's over Cromartie on Sunday.

So The Denver Bronco's have officially hired John Fox to be their new Head Coach.

This is a great move. Fox is a very good Head Coach who was able to make the most out of a shit situation in Carolina.

Oh, and Mega, I forgot it's against the law for someone to hate Tom Brady. That wasn't all about on-field. He just hates him. And really, the whole talking thing has nothing to do with motivation either way.

The Yankees signed closer Rafael Soriano to a 3 year/$35 million contract. He'll be the set-up man to Rivera, pitching the 8th inning.

Good signing, Soriano is a very good relief pitcher and could be the heir when Rivera retires.

Fucking Yankees and Red Sox...

Great signing by the Yanks. I'm a big fan of Soriano and he was definitely one of the better closers in the game last season and was a solid setup man prior to his time as a closer. He will definitely be of great service in New York.

He's not ready to go pro. Another year could have really helped him.

He is ready to go pro and will be a first round pick. Another year would have done nothing but given the NCAA more time to possibly find him guilty of something and have him miss playing time. He could potentially be the first qb taken in this draft.

He only played one year. Him leaving early tells me that he is guilty of other things and he's afraid of getting caught by the NCAA. Also, I'm sure if Luck would've entered the draft, Newton probably would've returned.

I loved having Soriano on my fantasy team last year. This signing is great for him and great for the Yankees but his fantasy value just dropped to zero.

Before anyone says athletes and organizations don't and shouldn't care about fantasy I am aware of that. Just making a comment.

unless your fantasy league counts holds. Then his value is much higher then zero. He still takes a hit, because the Yankees (generally speaking) don't give their relievers much of a chance for holds/saves, because they score a lot of runs.

It is a GREAT move by the Yankees, and it may end up luring Pettitte back for 1 last final last season.

Twins resigned Thome, definitely glad we got him locked up. We need to keep some power hitting in our lineup and him at DH is perfect.

That said I can now promptly dismiss the report that the Twins were one of five teams inquiring about Manny Ramirez. I don't want him near our harmonious locker room.

He only played one year at the division 1 level but he also led his JUCO team to a national title. Obviously that's nothing big but he wasn't just sitting on his ass. He has nothing left to prove in college because he has done everything. Even if Luck entered the draft I guarantee Newton still would have as well. He's a first round pick either way.

Sorry if this doesn't really fit in with what you guys are talking about in here, but I didn't feel this was big enough to make a new thread, and this is the only sports thing really around in the spam section at this time, and being the Sports bar, I'd figure it's worth sharing.

So I'm playing the AFC Conference game on my 4th year in my madden 11 franchise with the Steelers. I imported a draft class from NCAA with my created running back (me :)) to play the NFL franchise with. So It's Steelers @ Broncos, and there is 30 seconds left in the game. 49-10 (Pittsburgh) I decided to run up the score. Being that the game is in Denver, there is heavy snow. I hand the ball of to the halfback (in this case me), and I break it out from a huge 72 yard run.

As I'm going into the endzone, I do a body slide in, turn over...and proceed to make a snow angel. I thought that was a pretty funny touchdown celebration. I'm sure they've done it before in the NFL, but I haven't seen it on Madden until now. Sucks for Denver though, it's the AFC conference game, and Pittsburgh (who was 4th seed playing in the wildcard) kicks the crap outta you on home field, and then they run up the score, and the asshole running back pretty much taunts the crowd, making a snow angel on your home turf.

Well I'll be playing St. Louis for the second time in a row at the Superbowl. Not sure why they're doing so good. Although last years Superbowl I killed them. They went 12-4 last year, and 11-5 this year. I guess the Rams will end up being a superbowl winning team in 2014.

Haha, just thought I'd share that though.

Even with everyone involved in the NFL Playoffs, I got another (baseball related) thread up in the Stadium. Check it out.

This thread needed a bump as well.

Packers vs. Bears in the NFC Championship game! I think the president could be shot tonight and that would be the number two story in Chicago and Green Bay papers tomorrow.
