The Sports Bar

I'm going to call it right now.

Da'Quan Bowers is going to be #1 or AJ Green will be if he comes out.

All assuming that Carolina keeps the pick and doesn't trade it.
Have you ever heard of Andrew Luck? The guys just projected as highest rated QB to enter the Draft since one Peyton Manning. There's more then an excellent chance that Luck leaves (it's a 99.9999% chance he comes out if Harbaugh leaves Stanford, which has seemingly an 80% chance of happening at least). The Panthers also have already pretty much said that if Luck comes out, they will draft him.

Whether he chooses to go there or not is another question. He might pull a Eli Manning to try and get to Denver, or somewhere else.

What could SF offer Carolina that they would even want other that draft picks? They might want a player or 2.

Exactly. San Fran is picking somewhere from 7-13 which is no where near number 1. The only player Carolina would want from San Fran are untouchables like Willis, Davis, and Crabtree and I don't think there are enough picks that could get them to move up that far.

The only place I could see Luck going via trade is Denver. Swap picks (Denver is at 2), give Carolina Tebow (who is useless for them with Luck), and another draft pick (2012 first, 2011 2nd, whatever). In all honesty, that might even be better for Carolina then Luck. They get the QB (Tebow), then can go and draft something they need with the 2/other pick.

Carolina needs a ton of stuff, Luck alone wouldn't be the solution in Carolina.

I don't see Tebow as a franchise qb so obviously I believe that deal would not be good.

In your opinion. There are many people who believe Tebow could be a franchise QB (I am of that ilk). However, the deal could still work without Tebow. Denver gives the 1-2, 2-2, and 2012's 1 for the Carolina 1 (Luck). Carolina then either stays with Claussen, or drafts another QB out of this really deep QB class.

Then Denver can dump Tebow on another team for a 2nd/3rd rounder or something.

Another place that could trade is Buffalo (at 3). Not that they should do it (they need a lot more then just a QB), but they could. Similar compensation (1-3, 2-3, 2012 first) to the Denver idea.

I agree that Denver and Buffalo could both be possibilities. There are obviously very close to the number one pick so it would not take as much to move up plus Carolina gets the multiple draft picks they desperately need.

upon looking at the draft order, any of the teams in the top 8 can potentially draft a QB, which means they all could potentially want to jump to 1 to grab Luck.
1. Carolina
2. Denver
3. Buffalo
4. Cincinnati
5. Arizona
6. Cleveland
7. San Fran
8. Tennessee

Obviously it would cost an arm and a leg for Cleveland San Fran and Tennessee, but 2-5 could very easily trade up.

I think Cleveland is happy with Colt McCoy but I agree with the other 7 teams. Because of how many teams need a qb we could potentially see 5 qb's taken in the first round. Luck and Mallet may be the only first round locks but Newton, Locker, and Gabbert could all easily be first rounders with good workouts and interviews. You only have to impress one team.

I believe 1999 was the last time 5 qbs were taken in the first round. Couch, Akili Smith, McNabb, Culpepper, and Cade McNown. All taken from 1-12.

Watching the Sugar Bowl last night, I really like what I saw out of Mallett, his throws were right on point, and he's got a great arm. If his receivers didn't have Troy Williamson Syndrome, Arkansas would have won that game in my opinion.

I highly doubt he drops to 12, but if he does, Vikes have to take him right? I mean I'm a Joe Webb fan and all, but I highly doubt the Vikes will roll with him poised to be the starter next year. I could be wrong about webb, but we're high enough in the draft with a lot of potentially good QB's available this year that we have to take one now right?

I see the Vikings going one of two ways.

1. Signing a veteran like McNabb and seeing if Webb can develop behind him or

2. Signing a veteran like Marc Bulger and then taking a qb in the first round. With 5 potential first round quarterbacks this is the perfect draft to get one. Luck obviously won't be there but there's a chance for any of the other 4 to be there. Mallet, Newton, Gabbert, and Locker could all be possibilities. I do think however that Locker and Gabbert are overrated so I'd rather have Mallet or Newton.

Flip side of that, let's say the Vikings believe Webb can be something, and/or they pick up a veteran like Mcnabb to give Webb more time to develop. If that were to happen, I'm looking at the Oline needing a breath of fresh air, specifically at LT, RG, someone to develop under Hutch at LG, and C because Sullivan just isn't cutting it. Also have to consider the secondary, need safeties and a corner or two. Winfield won't be around much longer, Griffin is adequate enough, Cook can't stay healthy, and Asher Allen is burnt toast. Madieu Williams needs to go, Tyrell Johnson was a bust on the other side. Abdullah played well as a starter, but I'm not completely sold on him.

If a good QB is projected to be available later in the first round, I would like to see us trade back and pick up an extra pick or two since we don't have a 3rd.

So apparently Andrew Luck is staying at Stanford which throws a wrench in Carolina`s plays. Who do you guys see going number 1 now, assuming the Panthers keep the pick?

I don't believe anyone is going to try and trade up to number 1 now so the Panthers will likely keep the pick and draft a guy like Nick Fairley out of Auburn or maybe Marcel Dareus from Alabama. They need to sure up the defensive line.

It's now a 4 qb race to see who will be the top quarterback drafted. Mallet, Newton, Gabbert, and even Locker all have a shot at it. All 4 will likely be first rounders.

Devils fans: Rumor has it Jamie Langenbrunner is waiting to be traded. I don't know much yet, but according to Northjersey.com the deal is better than two draft picks from Philly, which is the only offer that has been known to be extended.

Think we'll get players and picks, just players, or just picks?

I just watched an interesting countdown on MLB Network, which was counting down the top 10 first basemen. They were playing it as, if you wanted to start a team with one first basemen, who would it be. Their list was as follows:

10. Kendry Morales - Anaheim
9. Justin Morneau - Minnesota
8. Paul Konerko - Chicago
7. Prince Fielder - Milwaukee
6. Ryan Howard - Philadelphia
5. Mark Texeira - New York
4. Joey Votto - Cincinnati
3. Adrian Gonzalez - Boston
2. Miguel Cabrera - Detroit
1. Albert Pujols - St. Louis

No surprise to me, really, on the top. Pujols will be #1 for a while, although Cabrera seems to be inching closer to Pujols territory. I thought Konerko might've deserved to be a little bit higher, but that's about it.

Do you guys see any problems with this list, or do you think MLB Network (who I believed were the ones to decide the list) got it wrong somewhere?

The most likely destination is the Dallas Stars and I believe that he will be traded there. I've heard that it's a conditional draft pick going to the Devils, but nothing is confirmed yet. Seems to be some last minute negotiations going on. The condition is not known yet.

There is also talk of a Columbus Blue Jackets trade in the works and one source said it involved a young roster player from Columbus, but I haven't heard anything else.

Things are getting interesting in the NHL and I love it!

It's weird, as a Devils fan, usually we're the ones getting the big names in return, but we'll either be getting rookies I've never heard of or draft picks in this trade. Weird stuff man, and not a good season to be a Devils fan.

Devils need to unload alot of talent, just to try an free up some cap space, this season is for all purposes already a failure, even if they do turn things around and start winning games, they'll still likely miss out on the playoffs, if I'm Devils management I'm going to try and unload some of those high priced veterans, and get some draft picks or young up and coming talent in return, to bad they can't undo that Kovalchuck contract

The Devils fucked up royally by giving Rolston the contract they did. He is easily the worst player on the Devils this season, and he's so bad and so overpriced that nobody will take him. The Devils need to get younger quickly. I hate to say it, because I love Patty, but the time to deal Elias may be upon the Devils by the trade deadline.

The problem with dealing these older guys is that they have pretty big cap hits with them. The most I see the Devs getting is a second round draft pick. Especially with Langenbrunner whose contract is up at the end of this year. Theres also been some talk of trading Parise or his rights. I really hope they dont do that but they might be able to get three first round picks if they were to do so.

Devils fans need to realize something. You guys have been one of the best franchises in the past 15 years. You're allowed to suck one year.

Oh, in case you're wondering, I'm a Ranger fan, so the Devils sucking for one year makes me happy.
