why the hell is it surprising that a football program at an institution that has higher academic standards can play good football? That's a load of shit.

And yes, Harbaugh is the best coach right now in the NCAA. Granted he'll be going to San Fran and thus not be in college anymore.

It's surprising because a lot of the top recruits aren't there to get an education, they're there to get to the next level (NFL). You're blind if you don't think colleges that have higher standards in education have a tougher time at winning.

Arkansas' in the Sugar Bowl and we have a decent time with the education stuff. It's not impossible. Just look at players like DJ Williams.

Also, everyone here had better be watching the Sugar Bowl.

No, I have a tougher time at understanding that people would think there is an inverse relationship between on-field success and academic standards. It's not impossible to win when you have academic standards. You just recruit less fucking morons.

It's not at all surprising in the least. It's good. The only sad thing is that people act like Stanford shouldn't win football games, solely based on their academic excellence, as if all top recruits are thugs that can't count to 10. Believe it or not, schools with High standards can (and do) win.

yes, it's not impossible. BUT it's tougher because those guys have to meet the academic standards. otherwise, they lose their scholarship and get kicked out.

And these schools get the elite athlete that they know can do it, hence why it isn't all that tougher. Is recruiting tougher? Slightly, although with the higher-caliber STUDENT, you lessen your chances of getting lower quality PEOPLE.

You act like none of the athletes can pull off both. They're called STUDENT athletes. The emphasis is SUPPOSED to be on STUDENT, not on ATHLETE. Some schools get this right. Sadly, not all of them do.

Where did I say it was impossible for higher ranking institutions to get good players? All i said was that it would be tougher because the athletes wouldn't be getting terribly easy majors; they're actually trying to get an education (yes, some athletes are there to JUST play football and couldn't give a damn about their education).

Where did I say that's what you said? What I said is that to say that Schools like Stanford, Notre Dame, and other schools that emphasize academics have a harder time to win, because believe it or not not every recruit is a thug that can't count to 10 is bullshit. They don't have a harder time to win, the only difference is that their pool to recruit from is SLIGHTLY lower (they don't recruit the aforementioned unable to count thugs), but of those, they don't look at places that don't care about academics, because they are smart enough to know that there's a much better chance their future rests on their degree, not their football ability.

All i said was that it would be tougher because the athletes wouldn't be getting terribly easy majors; they're actually trying to get an education
What the fuck is this shit? Do you really think that the shit academic schools force "terribly easy majors" on to their Athlete Students (I flipped the 2 words because that's what these places think of them, which is pathetic). Students choose their own majors, and while the uncounting thugs will choose Basketweaving or something crap like that, there are still those who choose real subjects.

(yes, some athletes are there to JUST play football and couldn't give a damn about their education).
And that's the saddest thing in all of sports, and not just Collegiate sports. That's the biggest problem also in all of football (even bigger then "cheating" and "violations"). How anyone can condone that (the administration, coaching staff, professors, and fans alike) is fucking sad.

You said I was acting like nobody can pull off being both a high quality student and a good athlete. That is a lie.

And to be fair, winning at Stanford is remarkable because the football team (before Harbaugh came) was simply awful. The turnaround that he did in years 3 and 4 is simply amazing.

I don't know how in the world you interpreted that from what I said. What I meant was that the students pick terribly easy majors because they're only there to play football and don't want the pressure of focusing on schoolwork as well. (You seemed to have slightly figured that out in your second part of the reply.) I never once said schools forced any majors on any student. I said these students chose those easy majors.

What I was saying is that the athletes at these High-Standards schools CAN handle the workload because they are strong students, thus making it not tougher for them then you would think,

THAT'S the amazing thing about Stanford winning. The ONLY amazing thing about them winning.

How did I get what I got from what you said.
1. You don't "GET" a major, you CHOOSE a major. "Getting" a major implies it being chosen for you.
2. I got it all along, I just called out the bullshit about the whole not trying to get an education. Yes, that's bullshit. If they're not trying to get a fucking education, then the schools should kick them the fuck out and not let the door hit them on the ass on the way out, because they're not doing anyone any good. The sport is COLLEGE football, not "18-22 year olds who aren't old enough for the NFL Football". If they just want to play football, they should try and get into the CFL or the UFL or something.COLLEGE Football is for STUDENT ATHLETES, not thugs who don't want to be at COLLEGE.

All i said was that it would be tougher because the athletes wouldn't be getting terribly easy majors;

Getting here meant gaining. God damn, didn't think this would turn into reading comprehension class.

And you really think these schools are going to kick these athletes out if they
A) Maintain a respectable GPA (no matter their major) and
B) Make them lots of money by winning football games (OSU/Arkansas get 18 million for playing in the Sugar Bowl, which is quite a lot of dough)

Not a chance.

And while they 'should' kick them out, if they're doing decent in school and haven't done anything stupid (breaking the law) then the schools have no right to kick them out. And these players are doing the coach good, who some schools give a handful of millions per year to coach their team.

FREEDOM!!!! Good to see you back

also gotta love Mallett pulling a Favre and costing his team the Suger Bowl, why the fuck would you throw into double coverage like that, they were so close, had all the momentum, shoulda just threw it away:disappointed:

Yeah Ryan Mallett clucked hard

I cant get enough laughs over whats become of Brett Favre, and the Vikings for that matter. How hilariously horrible was this Vikings season

The pick wasn't all on him. He had 10 guys in his face, and threw to a receiver that looked open from his view (the guy that made the pick was likely hidden by the 4 or 5 guys about to murder Mallett. That pick, if anything from Arkansas was to be blamed, was on the O-Line for completely failing.

Yes, hindsight says to throw it away, but when you see a receiver that looks open, you throw to him.

Getting kind of tired of hearing about the bullshit sexual harassment crap in within the Jets locker room, the way I see it if these women had so many issues with sexual harassment when working there then why the fuck didn't they step forward and report it 2 fucking years ago when it was going on, I have a feeling that all of these cases are just going to fall apart when they finally get to court, and I hope they do, these woman just seem to be looking for a quick pay day at the expense of the NY Jets and Brett Favre

I agree completely. Yes, if they were sexually harassed it is a very bad thing, but 2 years later, after the offending people are long gone? Child please. If they waited until Favre (the supposed offending party) was gone, fine, but 2 years later is a load of shit.

Now people are gonna use this as ammunition to hate on Rex Ryan's Jets, even though he has fuck all to do with it. Oh look, another "disctraction" for the Jets.... Fuck that shit.

The two massueses went about their law suit at least semi respectably. Jenn Sterger got clowned as she should have, she got nothing and I love it. But with the massueses at least they kept quiet enough and filed the lawsuit. And also Rex doesnt need help throwing his team off, I was tired of him and his "loose cannon" act before he even started

Hmmmm, don't think you'd be singing the same tune if this had to do with Ben in the STEELER locker room.

Actually, I do not believe the Sterger thing is over. The NFL part of it is, but I think she can (and may be) filing charges, I'm not 100% sure.

Well good for him he is yet to throw his team off. The only thing he does is put all the heat on himself, and thus take it OFF his players.

Hmmmm, don't think you'd be singing the same tune if this had to do with Ben in the STEELER locker room.
No you fucking twit. Not in the fucking least. Shit like this is why I have you on ignore. I regret even viewing the fucking post, and you are what gives fucking Steeler fans a bad image. Now shut the fuck up, go away, and never come the fuck back.
