Anyone wondering if they would fill up Ford Field tonight for the Giants/Vikings game, Fox just said there was 30,000 people there, and they turned people away.
There was no doubt in my mind that the game would draw plenty of fans. I mean they offered free tickets to anyone in the metro Detroit area. People are going to jump at the chance to watch an NFL game for free. I would have gone if I wouldn't have been working until 5.

Iagree, and if I were local, I'd go. Still 30,000 is a lot of people on short notice on a weekday is pretty impressive. And they turned people away, which is even bigger of a deal.
Fox even said someone came from as far as Kentucky, which sounds rather much, to me.
The only thing that concerned me was the condition of the roads in the metro Detroit area. There was a big snow storm yesterday and the roads are really shitty. Still, Detroit fans can't turn down free football especially when one of the teams actually has a winning record.
I actually went to the game yesterday, but we live 2 1/2-3 hours away in normal conditions, and yesterday it took us 5 1/2 hours to get home from teh blizzard. No chance we were going again today, so we gave our tickets away to some guys that needed a few, and I felt good about it.

Unbelievable that the Phillies signed Cliff Lee.
I'm so happy the Yankees didn't get him. Hopefully this move is enough for the Phillies to win the World Series and get Halladay that ring.

Seattle won December last year. They lost April-October (November).
Just pointing that out. Not that the Phils will do that, but they could. And now that they signed another huge contract, they might not be able to sign their guys (Howard, Utley, Rollins)

Howard just signed a 5 year extension last offseason that could potentially keep him in Philly until 2017. Don't think we have to worry on that account.
Utley is under contract until 2013, so it could hurt signing him, but I don't think it will.
Rollins is really the only one that is a risk, as he is a free agent at the end of this upcoming season. Hamels would be another one that it hurts. He is up for arbitration at the end of the upcoming season and eligible for free agency following 2012 season.
Look for the Phillies to trade Joe Blanton to free up some salary as he was making a good chunk of dough (8.5 mil this year and next) and isn't really needed to be the 5th pitcher as Kendrick or someone else can man down that role just fine.

These 2 weren't my main concern. I thought I remembered Howard signing, and Utley is still around until after the Halladay deal I think).
I'll bet money Rollins is gone unless he takes a paycut, and Hamels will have to have a good season to stay I think. Although they might be able to trade him and restock other places they might be inadequate.

Yankees are going to Plan B now, which is the trade market. They'll trade for Felix Hernandez, who'd get 5 thousand wins supposedly with the Yankees lineup and Defense.
5,000 wins paaalease. He'll get a least a million no doubt. Seriously though if Seattle can drain the Yanks system then it could definitely be a possibility, but I don't see it happening. Maybe take a risk on someone like Brandon Webb. He is still on the market, but who knows how good his stuff will be nowadays. Chris Young (former Padres pitcher) is still out on the market as well. Nothing dazzling out there, but still some solid bottom of the rotation type of guys. If they trade I'd think Greinke would be more likely seeing as I think he'd be cheaper to land than King Felix.

How close is Felix to Free Agency (where he WILL leave Seattle, because they don't seem like they'll get better any time soon)? They could off him. And the Yankees do have the pieces to do it (they had a deal worked out for Lee before the league jumped in and got him traded to the team the League owned and operated)
They want a top of the rotation guy. And to be honest if they were looking bottom of the rotation, I wouldn't mind them giving Chien-Ming Wang another shot. He was excellent with the Yanks for a couple years, before getting hurt.
The Yanks aren't interested in Grienke. He can't handle NY.

Then they will likely keep him for 2.5 or 3 more years, then trade him before he hits Free Agency (That was one of those sign him through his arbitration years deals I think).
Right now the rotation is CC, Hughes, Burnett, Nova, Mitre (unless Pettitte re-signs). They need a 2nd Ace. Hughes isn't there yet. CMW might be healthy again, so it might be worth the low-risk gamble. And he's proven that he can pitch in NY, so he's a good buy-low guy. However, I also want to give Nova a shot.
I like Grienke, as an ace on a small market team, where he isn't gonna get crushed by the Media/fans (that SSC doesn't believe make a difference). And anyone calling for him to be a 5th starter is insane. He's be the 3 on your team with Lee (behind Lee/Halladay).
