In case you haven't heard, the teaser for The Social Network, David Fincher's drama on Mark Zuckerberg and facebook's beginnings, dropped a few days ago:

With just sound bites, a dramatic score, and bold, white words against a black screen, it's kind of hard to tell if this film looks promising or not. However, I'm somewhat intrigued; David Fincher's directing, and Aaron Sorkin penned the script, so it should be at least be half-decent.

Thoughts?

It is really hard to gauge what exactly the movie is going to tackle, but I must admit that I am intrigued to see what comes off this simple yet very complex trailer. I find myself wishing that another trailer would follow it that would reveal more of what to expect but I also don't want that because now there is a mystery surrounding this film, at least for me. I am definitely going to keep an eye on it from now till it comes out. Thanks for posting this interesting trailer.

Yeah, well, nobody actually wanted to see this film, did they! People might watch it because it's Fincher. But if you'd given people a synopsis and asked if they wanted to see Fincher make a film about Facebook the general consensus would be no. Obviously it's going to have so much more going for it than just being a Facebook film, but it's still fairly unappealing at present.

Fincher seems to miss then hit, so with my complex rating system I've worked out that this should actually be rather good. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he gets it grossly wrong just like he did Benjamin Button.

Fuck yes, a thread on this.

I'm really intrigued and excited for this one. David Fincher is one of my favourite directors and it's got a very diverse and interesting ensemble of young actors ranging from indie stars to Disney stars, which is a departure from who you'd expect to be cast in a Fincher film.

I also remember reading that Sony was pushing back the release of Van Sant's Restless in order to campaign The Social Network for the Oscars so clearly they've got a lot of faith in this one.

It's tough to tell what kind of movie this will be when the subject matter is Facebook but with a Sorkin screenplay and Fincher directing, it's got to be a lot more than just a "Facebook movie". Hopefully they stay true to the film and don't market it to seem like something it's not (I'm looking at you, Shutter Island) - this is all obviously speculation since I have no idea what it's even going to be like, but so far I'm liking the teaser and poster and it appears to be going in the right direction.
