Everybody Has A Price!
Like some of you probably know, I’ve been starting to watch puroesu because I find most of the WWE incredibly boring. But that’s not what this thread is about. I asked a few posters here for match recommendations because while I do know who some of the best puroesu wrestlers are, I don’t know what matches I should watch. So this thread is designed for posters to not only recommend puro matches for me, but it’s also designed for posters to recommend matches for anyone who is interested in watching puro but isn’t quite sure of what matches they should watch.

I’m going to recommend for everyone to watch Misawa vs. Kobashi. But I should probably be more specific. While I’m sure every, if not most, of their encounters have been great, their encounter in 2003 for the NOAH promotion is amazing. That was probably the first or maybe second good puro match I had ever seen.

These two men gave it their all in this match and it payed off. I was extremely entertained and I’m happy I decided to watch it. Everything about the match was just spectacular. There were even times that I thought the match couldn’t get any better. And guess what happens next? If you guessed, the match suddenly became better then you guessed the correct answer. At times I even thought that they were going to end it because of the things these two men did. For example, there was one part were Misawa gave Kobashi a suplex off the stage and I thought it was over then and there. But I was wrong. They got right back up seconds later and continued to wrestle. I honestly can't believe how awesome this match was.

I’m telling each and every single one of you, you will not regret watching it because it’s that damn good. If this match is one of the nominations for match of the decade, then it’s getting my vote.

What puro matches do you recommend?

Well I know some good Puroesu matches you should check out are any Kobashi match they are classic. But if you want me to be Specific go find Joe/Kobashi, Kobashi/Steve Williams and Kobashi Misawa. Those 3 will make you look at wrestling in a different aspect.

You should also find the Stiners Ric flairs and Chris hero work in Japan they are pretty good.

Other good matches you should find are

GHC Tag Title Match: Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa vs. Scorpio & Doug Williams

1st Differ Cup Sodatsu Junior Tag Tournament Final: Ultimo Dragon & Yossino vs. Tatsuhito Takaiwa & Yoshihito Sasaki

hope this helps people

Another puroresu match that I recommend is the final match of the 1994 Super J Cup tournament. The match was Wild Pegasus (Chris Benoit) against Great Sasuke. I saw this match a few days ago and I thought it was phenomenal. The match only lasts 20 minutes or so, but I wished it was longer. The match had some amazing spots and I thought the best part of it was that the match was unpredictable. For example, there were times I thought Sasuke had the match won but I was wrong, and vice versa.

For anyone that cares, Dave Meltzer gave the match 5 stars. So if you care what he says, then go and watch this match. I tried looking for it on YouTube and on Dailymotion but I had no luck. But if you know of any other websites then don’t think twice about watching this match because I’m sure most will enjoy, especially if you are or were a big Benoit fan. I think it’s pretty cool watching him before he became popular in WCW and later on WWE.

Well since you've shown such an interest in puro ST, I can't believe I missed this thread, I'll gladly recommend you some matches to watch if you'd like. Let's see what I can dig up off of YouTube first and foremost...

Here's a classic that is pretty much required viewing. As I'm sure you already know by now, Kobashi vs. Misawa was basically the feud in Japan during the 90s, and this classic for the Triple Crown in 1999 is one of their many classic bouts. And I do mean many. This is a long match, but well worth every minute of it you watch. Enjoy:

Great thread man, Its great to see a few people who appreicate Puro, except for a select few there are not many people on this board that are interested in Puro. I have many, many matches that I like but a few that stand out are Muta vs Liger in 96. This of course is the legendary match where Muta goes crazy ripping of Ligers mask only to reveal that Liger had his face painted like Muta, complete with the green mist, it is a classic and a must see for any Puro fan.

Another one of my favorites is Toshiaki Kawada vs Kensuke Sasaki in the AJPW vs NJPW match. This match was a big deal because AJPW was feuding with NJPW and these were two of their biggest stars. The match sold out the Tokyo Dome, which is huge. I guess this could be compared to if when the Monday night wars was at a boiling point, WCW invaded, and the stars collided only the way the fans wanted it to, with both companies looking strong.

I would get in to some Misawa matches but there is so many good ones that it would be hard to pick a few, but my favorite matches of Misawa's were his series with Jumbo, Hansen, Kobashi, Kawada, and Taue.

Though, If I had to choose one Puro Match out of all of them I would choose maybe my all time favorite Puro wrestler ever Tatsumi Fujinami vs Akira Meada in 1986.I bealive it was a inter promotional between NJPW and UWF. I loved it, the stiff kicks and legit submissions by Akira Meada. The submissions, technical ablilty and warrior spirit shown from Fujinami. To me it was a classic.

I remember seeing this match a few months ago. Someone posted it up in a thread in the Bar Room I think it was and I decided to give it a watch. I don’t particularly remember a lot of the things that happened during the match except for the part you mentioned about Muta taking Liger’s mask off and the Liger having face paint like Muta. I also remember really liking that match but unfortunately, I didn’t get to finish watching it. I’ll have to look for it on YouTube when I have time so I can finish it.

I also want to recommend a match I just finished watching. This match was actually recommended to me by Jmt and I found it to be pretty entertaining. The match is Hayabusa vs. Jushin Liger. Here it is:

The match isn’t very long (about 11 minutes or so excluding the introductions and the small celebration after the winner wins the match) but it was good for what it was. I would have liked to see what else they could have done if they had more time to wrestle. I might look on YouTube later to see if they have any longer matches because I liked this on.

You know, this was actually the third or fourth match I’ve seen with Hayabusa in it and I think I’m started to become a fan of his. He’s very entertaining and impressive in the ring and I’m going to be looking up some more of his work. I hope anyone who watches the match enjoys is. Like I said, it’s good for what it was but it probably would have been better had more time been allotted.

Joe vs. Kobashi is an amazing match and easy to get hold of!
I'd also put in a word for every Kobashi/Misawa match and also The Holy Demon Army vs. Misawa and Kobashi !

I'd like to recommend the match between Muta and Liger where Liger transforms into Kisihn Liger...... its a very interesting match to say the lease

LOVE THAT MATCH!!! Nice choice ROHDude!

I'll suggest watching any of the singles matches between KENTA & Nakajima. Both of those guys tore it up this year. I haven't figured out how to put the video up on the forum, but I'll give you guys a link to the first part of their rematch back in March.

I believe the two did battle in December of 08' that went around 55 minutes and then in March they had the rematch which was about 30 minutes, I think. I'll have to click the link to re-watch it. lol

Anyway check it out if you have time. Real fun match and a true pro wrestling match.

Absolutely, KENTA and Nakajima had a serious MOTY candidate in their March 1st match-up this year.

NOAH 3-1-09 KENTA vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title

A match of the year candidate right there, and only one of the many great matches from KENTA in a brilliant year that saw KENTA become possibly the most consistently excellent worker in the world today, atleast in the junior divisions. This match with Nakajima is just absolutely brutal and by the time it's over you feel as drained as the two amazing athletes in the ring. When I first saw this match I had ir rated at around ****3/4 stars, so in other words it's about as good as wrestling can be without being perfect.

Absolutely loved that match. Nakajima continues to really grow on me.

Me too!!!

I wasn't a big fan of his at first, but his matches with KENTA kind of got me started on him. Then he & Mochizuki had a good feud in...SEM??? I think it was SEM otherwise it was in Kensuke Office. Either way his series of tags and singles with Mochizuki sold me on him. He's really come a long way and now I try to check out as much of his work as I can.

A brilliant match from 2009 was Taue & Muto vs. Kobashi & Takayama from Great Voyage 27.09.09

4 of the biggest names in a tag match filled with perfect pacing, unbelievable in ring storytelling, and Mutoh just having so much fun with it.

The match makes you mark out, laugh out loud and gets you involved in every single part of it! Great wrestling, really, really entertaining and has the big names pulling off the big moves that everyone comes to see!

Great thread, and some real good fans on this one, no fuckin idiots. One match I would like to see that either hasn't happened, or is just impossible to find is Hayabusa vs. Great Muta. Those two going at it would be a classic.
