The real Legacy

Pre-Show Stalwart
So I have been thinking that The Legacy tag team/faction actually was not that good. It was hyped up to be so great. But with so few superstars in the faction and the way it is ending is making it look like it was just a waste of time for over a year now.

Here is what i think should of happened.

The way Legacy started was Cody Rhodes turning on Hardcore Holly and tagging with Dibiase and eventually became a faction with Orton. There were so many chances for WWE to add new superstars and at one point Sim Snuka was basically a part of Legacy and someone else too i can't remember, but they should of kept them in the Legacy. WWE NEEDS FACTIONS. THEY RULE THE WRESTLING WORLD.

So the night on Raw when Ted faced Orton and Ted was just pissed off and was going to attack Orton but stopped. I think the rest of the Legacy should of come out and attacked Dibiase. This would of set up Dibiase leaving Legacy and being a star on his own. He could of fought off Legacy on his own or he could of had some help from...idk anyone.

At this years royal rumble it should of come down to Orton and Dibiase because Dibiase would of been in the main event for a solid 3-4 months prior to this and it would of been perfect for those two to battle it out. then we could of seen Dibiase win rumble, Orton win title at EC and dibiase vs. Orton at Mania.

I think they dropped the ball with Legacy. It was the best thing going on RAW for a long time.

What are your thoughts on this?

I have to disagree with you on Legacy being one of the best things on Raw for a long time. I don't think they were one of the best things on Raw ever. When Orton first came back from his shoulder injury, he was finally starting to show some personality again. He was unpredictable, and not in the same way he is now. Now it's sneak attacks and bitch slapping his lackies, then repeat. There was a stretch of time when I looked forward to Raw just to see Orton.

Then all the talks of a new second generation stable starting falling into place. Priceless eventually alligned themselves with Orton after weeding out guys like Manu and Snuka and looked promising. Orton was still going on his rampages and Legacy looked like they had potential to both be breakout stars with the right amount of experience. But then nothing happened. Orton became more robotic an monotonous and Legacy went nowhere. After Orton had an incredibly lackluster fued with Triple H, Legacy had a slightly better fued with with DX. Rhodes and Dibiase looked like they were finally starting to legitamize themselves, while Orton was fueding with Cena. I didn't hate their fued, but it wasn't much different then their other fued before Cena got injured.

After these fueds, the group seemed aimless. Luckily they put Orton in a fued with Kofi, which did alot of both men. But Rhodes and Dibiase were once again nothing more than lackies. And I think that was the groups main problem. It was never a stable, it was Orton and sidekicks. Now there have been stables that have used this formula but this time it just never gelled completly. Before they were ever dominant people were already talking about their break. So I really don't think they ever realised their full potential.

So far the only time I have been pretty interested in the group is when their breakup was teased, and that has happened alot lately so I think this group is ready to move on even though they never made a huge impact. I really wish it would have been an oppurtunity to establish some form of character for Rhodes and Dibiase, but it never really did. So now we have to guys who have been around since 2008 but still look almost as green as when they debuted, and I think that was the groups biggest downfall.

They definitely dropped the ball with Legacy. Any good faction has numerous titles and the only one to win anything was Orton. Rhodes and Dibiase didn't have a lot of credibility because they didn't win anything important. Their feud with DX did help because they ended up looking good, but otherwise Legacy should have had the tag team titles. If they weren't going to have the titles then one of them should have had gold around his waist. Now, if Rhodes had a title, but Dibiase didn't then Legacy could have thrown out Ted because he wasn't good enough therefore making Dibiase a face.

Instead of creating a strong faction they made the three of them looking like 3 brothers who just whined to each other while making sure the big brother(orton) was happy. I hope Legacy is officially done soon because they have gotten boring.

I think that they could've made something out Legacy, with some of the 2nd/3rd gen. wrestlers coming down the pipe in the next few years...they could've made Legacy a sizable AND powerful faction!!

But the big question there is...Do those guys/gals have any talent??
Just because you come from strong wrestling stock,It doesn't always guarantee success....Does the name David Flair ring a bell??

For every progeny success, there are many failures..
Let me list some names..if you can remember them;
Scott Putski
Brian Christopher Lawler
Dave Sammartino

ANYONE GOT MORE??

I think that Legacy should've been the team to beat DX for the belts. It would have given them credibility. They have become nothing but Orton and his lackeys. I think at the last PPV where Orton was going for the belt, Dibiase should've cost him the title, hence ensuring that a feud with Orton was inevitable. Why can't the WWE write for them? They can work, give them something. Dibiase should've turned a long time ago; prior to his movie coming out. It would've been better marketing.

I agree they totally dropped the ball with Legacy. You never really got the feeling they were a unit, it was moreso Orton was the star, and DiBiase and Rhodes were just his lackeys. Not enough tag and 6 man tag matches. They could have been made out as a dominant force, but they seemingly just floated in limbo for a year. Obviously the whole point of stables is to make everyone part of it come out bigger and better than they were before. Its obvious WWE wants to make DiBiase a star, and a teasing of a break up for longer than they did would have been much better. They rushed it, and it came off looking weak.

They way I would have done it, would have been to have Orton turn on them, and reunite Evolution. Now bear with me here, I know everyone is tired of rehased ideas, but this one had potential. With Batista's recent heel turn, Trips and HBK no longer in DX, it could have been easy to switch him heel too with a turn on HBK. Then take Jack Swagger who has seemingly been demoted in recent months, and have him be the new 'young blood' of the group, and have him get the rub from the other 3 main eventers. As for opponents, DiBiase could have assumed leadership of the Legacy, and have his brother and joe hennig join the group. It would keep the second and third generation gimmick alive with all 4 members, and each one could have gotten a rub off of their high profile opponents. With the rumours swirling of a War Games return, it could have been the perfect set up for an awesome feud, and an awesome blow off to it with the greatest stable match ever invented.

I like the way this is going. You almost are wanting Ted and Cody to just beat the hell out of Randy and vice versa. I am enjoying it and it's one of the best things on RAW at the moment. An I am calling it right now, Ted Dibiase will be in the Final Four of The Royal Rumble next year.

A faction doesn't need to be packed with superstars (I'm assuming you meant top, main event guys) to be effective. And to be honest, I think the Legacy conflict going on right now is the most interesting thing they've had happen with the faction in long time.

Its obvious WWE wants to make DiBiase a star, and a teasing of a break up for longer than they did would have been much better.

Really? I think it's the exact opposite. The problem is that we all knew the breakup was coming for so long that instead of intriguing the audience, they pretty much got an exasperated ("it's about time") reaction.

Yeah, they did drop the ball but I don't think it was a complete failure. They could've let these guys win more titles, set them up with better matches, let them squash some guys lower on the card, etc. BUT Cody and Ted undoubtedly gained some brownie points by being involved with Randy. Now, if they were built up as something greater than his lackeys, that would've been nice (and it certainly would've made the current fallout a lot more interesting) but it wasn't a complete fail associating them with Orton.

We some good matches from Cody & Ted (who I love as a tag team) as well. I do agree that they could've done more 6 man tags, but I did enjoy Legacy's encounters with DX at Summerslam and Breaking Point. Especially the Submissions Count Anywhere match, which I thought was a great match and they definitely didn't lose any credibility by getting Shawn Michaels to tap out, whether it took both of them to do it or not.

I think Ted and Cody will eventually move on to greater things post-Legacy but their involvement with Legacy put them on the radar, more so than they were before the faction, and if that's the least they got out of it then it's not that bad.
