The Pumphandle Slam

Could anyone tell me why the hell is the Abdominal Stretch and Arm Wrench needed? What does that add to the impact? A regular Powerslam seems far more efficient.

An ancient form of humiliation unknown to most members of western civilization or simply to get a better grip.

It's wrestling man. Why would anybody ever contemplate doing a Koji Clutch when you can get somebody to submit easier with a rear naked choke? Looks better.

Yeah, but it applies pressure to the side of the neck so it's different. There's nothing different between a Pumphandle Slam and a Powerslam other than one very complex way to set it up.

Yeah, well, even still I would say that's just because it looks better. You see lots of basic body slams and clotheslines and less Pumphandle slams. It's different and creative and more memorable because of it's retained novelty. I don't know how much people care what the effect of a move is as long as it's looks great. I know I'm like that anyway.

This is spawning some rather fundemental questions about wrestling I see but it's just a matter of making it look more impressive while maintaining safety for the opponent

Indeed he did, as well as Snitsky and pretty much anyone else who was given this as some default finishing move

There's a good answer for this actually.

1. Conceivably, it is easier to lift the man out of the Pumphandle then it is for a bodyslam, especially the whole putting the guy on the shoulders part. Easier when your hands are not between his legs. In a Pumphandle, you don't need to get your arm out from between the legs like you do with a Powerslam.

2. Kayfabe-wise, would you rather lift a guy using your right arm while bent to the side a bit (the left arm only supporting his head, not holding any weight) for a Powerslam, or would you rather lift a guy directly in front of you with both arms for a Pumphandle Slam? The latter is easier, especially for a smaller combatant.

3. When done to its fullest effect, The Pendulum-like nature of lifting the guy up then throwing him right back down would also create more impact. Much like swinging a Golf Club. A Powerslam does not create such an effect.

Most importantly:
4. Would you rather put your hand near your opponents privates for a Powerslam, or hold your opponents wrist a bit further away form the nether-regions?

There's pumphandle gut busters, back breakers, drivers and even a pumphandle piledriver. So there's lots of variations of the move. No big deal.

And here comes Stormtrooper with his typical OVER-analysis.

Looks to me like I just answered a question.

Powerslam =/= Pumphandle Slam. I explained why, and using a little bit of logic explained why some prefer one over another.

Sorry for using logic and understanding, I know that goes over the head of most of the people here.

Dude, dont you know anything about pump handles?

It could be argued that the trapping of both arms not makes it look more complex, it actually allows for greater potential force as it allows for a more whiplash-like impact than a regular powerslam.

The Pumphandle Powerslam done by the likes of Wrath and Test (did Goldberg do it too?) looked far more devastating than even the running powerslam of the Bulldog and for me it all comes down to the added fluidity given by the set up.

It's a great move. I'd love to see someone use it in WWE. As far as impact, the pendulum effect that was talked about on here seems pretty likely. It certainly looks more powerful than a regular power slam. Choice of moves is a big deal to me. I don't enjoy some wrestlers because of their use of moves.
