The Power Rangers Thread

Occasional Pre-Show
Just finished watching Power Rangers Dino Thunder (Legacy of Power episode for those interested) and they featured several moments from PR past up to Dino Thunder. Checked for a Power Ranger thread, didn't find one and here we are.

For those who don't know what Power Rangers is (and I'm just not going to revisit the entire history of Power Rangers in detail because I'm just that lazy) refer to the link below:

Other than this being one of the greatest shows of all the times, there are other things that amuse me enough to keep watching. First of, the logic. As in i have more questions during a break of the show, than i have at the end of an episode of Lost.
For example, (if you answer these questions, i'll probably give you rep)
Why does the head villain not come and destroy the Rangers at they're weakest moment?
Why doesn't the monster just blast them during their LONG morphing sequence?
Why is there such a LONG morphing sequence when it has been proven that they can morph in a quick second?
Why is always another ranger added to fray? Can the originals not handle the job? If they can't why have them as rangers? Get ones that actually can get the job done so Zordon doesn't have to make so many suits.
Are there any colors of the rainbow that haven't been used in a suit?
And many, many more........

Now i might be over-thinking, but deserve some answers :banghead:

Best Season: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Many seasons have come and gone but none have been able to surpass the original concept of Power Rangers. Though not my favorite season, i admit that it was the best. :worship:

Worst Season: Lightspeed, RPM, Operation Overdrive. The storyline for each was just plain stupid. That and i hated each of the theme songs. :disappointed:

Favorite Season: Zeo, Turbo, and season that featured Tommy. Other than the fact that the theme songs are amazing, each season had a reasonable story that was tolerable.

Feel free to put them all here? Discuss and have fun :)

Ironically, I was pretty bed stricken this weekend so I also recorded the whole series this past weekend. Didn't watch every episode but I have to admit I did enjoy Dino Thunder. I out of all the power rangers dino thunder was supposed to be the most targeted towards teenagers. But it was in a sense still meant for children to I think writers wouldn't think for children to think the question why won't he just attack them when their weak. The long morphing sequences will always be a mainstay with the series. Favorite season is hands down Dino Thunder, with Ninja Storm being a close second. Can't say I have a worst season because I stopped watching after that. There's always another ranger added just for shock factor, but most of us always seeing it coming anyway.

OMG you are awesome for you starting this thread. :worship:

Power Rangers was a HUGE part of my Childhood growing up. I remember it was always the first cartoon I watched early Saturday Morning and I loved it probably cause I was a little kid.

I remember the days when I would go in my back yard, grab the biggest stick I could find and start attacking the bushes like they were Putties and then I'd attack the tree like it was a Giant Monster. Oh, the memories...

What keeps you watching Power Rangers?

It was cool. Plain and Simple. I like that they also brought in different characters to make the franchise fresh and more interesting. I stopped watching after Time Force. I didn't like Time Force, but it was the last Power Rangers under Saban and to my memory, the last one to feature 5 or more Rangers.

Wild Force had 3 Rangers.....Really?

In your opinion, what is the best season?

It has to be the first one, no doubt about it. It set the foundation for the ones that followed it. They even had their own movie which was kickass if I do say so myself.

Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Billy, Trini and Tommy were people I grew up with that I would watch all the time, have these cool watches and report to Zordon for new missions. And also, who can forget Alpha haha.

They were friends, and almost like a Family. I even got a little mad when Tommy came around. I always thought Jason and Kimberly were supposed to be together and Tommy stole her lol.

This season had the best intro, best theme song, IMO the best villians, the animals that were the Zords, Tommy and his Flute to summon his Zord. It was subtle and not too over the top. The original was just so good in every way. It's hard to pinpoint every single thing.

Worst season?

Any season after Lightspeed Rescue. IMO, it was the last great Power Ranger season. I don't know if it was the catchy theme, the underwater base, the firefighter motif, or just how the season was itself, but everything after that was just.... meh. I mean Time Force had a good theme song, but that was really it. I couldn't get into the characters that much.

Favorite Season?

As much as I LOVED the first one, I have to go with Power Rangers Lost Galaxy for one reason; Almost every character had a different background.

They all came from different parts of the world, had such different personalities and beliefs, but were joined together to become Power Rangers. I love how the first two episodes brought everyone together and explained everything so perfectly, how they found their weapons, and everything. I think it was just so well done how people with different ways of Life can work together and be friends.

When you really think about it, Power Rangers' underlying theme was to teach you about friendship and value of working together. Very Well done.

Leo was The Stowaway, Damon was the funny, witty Mechanic, Kendrix was the Scientist with the Big Brain, Maya was the sexy Jungle Chick, and Kai was like the Asian version of Billy; smart, ambitious, dedicated, and focused on his duties. He just wasn't a scaredy cat like Billy was sometimes.

What are some logical questions about Power Rangers that you want answered?

I never really thought about it that seriously lol, but my questions would probably be what you listed.

The only thing I would add is:

Is Zordon like, God or something?

I hate to double post, but I was thinking of Ninja Storm, not Wild Force. Before I realized my mistake, I couldn't edit it. Wild Force was still meh anyway.

Ahem... I'll be taking over this shit NOW. Thanks. :lmao:

I used to watch Power Rangers as a kid every single day after school. Every. Single. Day. My parents tried to get me to go to some bullshit band concert once...and that's the day my father died. No, but really...I was an addict as a kid. Something about ninjas, kids being ninjas, giant monsters, giant machines to kill said monsters, and the whole transforming into these powerful entities...the show is acid for little kids! I watched regularly up through Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy and then stopped. I just grew out of it by that point... Honestly, the only reason I stayed in as long as I did was because I have younger brothers, who picked it up while I was on my way out.

Now I'll watch it with my friends if we want to laugh at the terrible acting, cheesy drama, or just have a good long dose of nostalgia. We marathoned the first season last year, and it was definitely worth it. If I had to pick a favorite, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers wins hands down. That's kind of unfair though, because it's also an insanely long "season" that has multiple seasons within. Everything from the very beginning up the Ninja series showcased in the first movie was in MMPR, and I loved every minute. OBVIOUSLY, the Green Ranger was my favorite. THe White was really cool, but I just never got over that Dragonzord...

I also really liked Zeo when it came out. It was nice to have something a bit new, and the costumes were really cool! And of course Tommy stuck around to lead the team, so there was no way I was going to miss it. And mid-season, when the gold ranger left and Tommy brought back Jason...I about died from nostalgia at a very young age. I believe I actually went as the gold ranger, handmade costume and all, for halloween that year! I did keep watching after Zeo, as I previously mentioned. I liked Turbo, even saw the movie and loved it when I was young, but after they ended the Zordon arc with In Space I was done. Finished out those seasons, but that killed it for me.

Thanks for this thread, I needed a good kick of nostalgia.

Still got all my old Zord toys in the attic.

I had a similar onset of nostalgia about this time last year and went and looked up everything online. I remember watching it religiously from its original run up until Turbo I think.

The thing that struck me the most (besides just how epically awesome the guitar solo in the theme tune is) is that when I was watching it as a kid and being completely absorbed in it all, and it feeling like the story arcs with the aliens and the Zeo crystals and such would last forever, but it actually only took place on TV over a period of like 6 months.

Oh you've just entered into my world... I'm such an obsessed Power Rangers fan that it's not even funny. IMO, it's better than most comic books (save for Green Lantern & Flash). Allow me to answer your questions there... at least to the best that I can.

Why does the head villain not come and destroy the Rangers at they're weakest moment?

Well eventually, all of the head villains will attempt to destroy the rangers themselves. And in some seasons, like Time Force or Lightspeed, the head villains are in the front line of nearly every battle. But if you need a philosophy to go off of, then go by Lothor's simple "You can't destroy the rangers unless they're in their ranger form" deal.

Why doesn't the monster just blast them during their LONG morphing sequence?
Why is there such a LONG morphing sequence when it has been proven that they can morph in a quick second?

Why is always another ranger added to fray? Can the originals not handle the job? If they can't why have them as rangers?

Usually, these other rangers tend to start out on the evil side in an attempt for the bad guys to stop the rangers by "fighting fire with fire". Unfortunately, those same head villains forget that simply brainwashing someone doesn't do shit because eventually it'll be broken. As for the seasons where the "other rangers" start out good, it's simple... the original rangers need more power to fight off the more powerful villains.

Usually, even after the other rangers come in (Save for Disney Era Rangers) the core rangers will still be the main ones fighting battle, unless the extra help is needed.

Are there any colors of the rainbow that haven't been used in a suit?
Brown and orange seem to be the only color I can think of... SPD's Boom doesn't count because he wasn't really a ranger, just pretended to be one. And Jungle Fury's Elephant Ranger was considered the white ranger.

Hope those helped.

What keeps you watching Power Rangers?

In one short answer, it's different than anything you'll see out there... unless you live in Japan where PR's original concept looms in the Tokusatsu projects.

I mean sure, you've got heroes facing villains, but power rangers offers more than that. It's like random people given temporary powers to form a sort of justice league that get transformers to defend the safety of humanity... and in some seasons, they even make it seem possible.

In your opinion, what is the best season?

I would honestly have to say In Space, simply because it went above and beyond the standard "Angel Grove" plot. It also brought so much more to the table than just the simple plots like "Villain mad! Villain want world!" and gave us more in depth ones. Not to mention, the debut of the battlizer.

Worst season?

Easily Mystic Force. Giving the explanation that "magic" is the source of powers is quite stupid, and the fact that they only fight in a "magical world" makes even more stupid. I don't give a shit about some other dimension, I want rangers who save my ass! (theoretically speaking)

Favorite Season?

SPD. No questions asked. The way that it was set in the future and how they did everything right. The cast was without a doubt the most solid cast in history, and they all went together well. Not to mention, the first black red ranger who wasn't given hand me down powers (TJ in Turbo). Also, evil Rangers that stay evil never goes wrong.

Ninja Storm would be a close second for me. Ninjas are never a bad idea.

What are some logical questions about Power Rangers that you want answered?

Mine are simple, and follow storylines created by the PR franchise themselves...

1. How the hell did Adam gain MMPR powers in Once a Ranger? The MMPR power coins were meant to be destroyed for good.

2. Where did Zen-Aku come from at the end of Wild Force? He was destroyed TWICE... this isn't Mortal Kombat!

3. What happened to the Zeo Powers, and why didn't they use those powers as their first defense against Divatox? The Zeo Crystals weren't even mentioned, nor was it explained how they lost their powers. They just got ditched for Turbo powers.
