The [OFFICIAL] Avatar: The Legend of Korra Thread

JamJam

It's goin' down forreal!
Hey everyone, don't tell me I'm the only fan of this show. There's gotta be some of you guys out there.

Anyway, I love this show! The Avatar series is surely making out to be a great cartoon series. Now discuss :D

Coincidentally enough, I just started Korra today. Finished The Last Airbender last night, downloaded all of Korra this morning. On Episode 3 now. Pretty good so far.

They're turning the comical moments up:

"Whatever happened to Zuko's mother?"

"That was an amazing story..."

They get interrupted.

Anytime I hear someone talking about Avatar, I think they're talking about the Cameron's Blue Cats, not the Avatar universe Shamlayandingdong fucked up with his shitty movie. So naturally coming into this thread I thought it was about some new cartoon Cameron made for his Avatar universe.

That's a cartoon I don't anyone would enjoy watching.

So I've just gone ahead and wrapped up the first seven episodes. Second half(-ish) of the season will be awaiting when I return to the US. Looking forward to it. It just might get me up on Saturdays, even.

Any room for spoilers? Why not, I say.

So my prevailing thought is that Amon must be an Energybender. Which would necessitate that someone taught him to do so, and unless he went hunting down a giant Lion Turtle, it had to be Aang. So I think it will be very interesting to discover just why Aang would have taught Amon Energybending, if indeed this is the case. In general, I'm very much looking forward to Aang making an appearance, as I'm certain he will at some point when Korra meditates. I'd also like to see Zuko, who incidentally, if you're not aware, is alive and well at the age of 87, traveling the world as an ambassador for peace after turning over the position of Fire Lord to his daughter. So that will be cool. I assume they'd have just killed him off if they didn't intend to use him. I anticipate that if Zuko makes an appearance we'll finally learn what happened to his mother, as well.

I don't even think it's energy bending. Aang was given energy bending, not taught. How could he teach someone something he doesn't really even understand?

He lived 50+ years after defeating Ozai. Presumably he had plenty of time to figure out the intricacies of Energybending. I'd imagine that as the Avatar, the greatest bender on the planet, he could figure it out. I just don't see how else Amon is taking away bending. He just touches people on the head and then boom, no bending. Exactly how Aang did it, except without all the lights, which is probably explained by him not being in the Avatar state when it happens.

I was thinking more along the lines of Amon being someone/something from the spirit world, who had his face taken away by Koh, which explains the mask, and he has the ability to energy bend like that. That was before I was doubting my thoughts of it even being energy bending in the first place.

That's an interesting concept that would also make sense to some extent. Though Amon does have eyes that suggest a face. But I was wondering if the Face Stealer would make an appearance of some sort, and presumably Energybending is something that has a much more intimate link to the spirit world than anything else...very interesting. But I can't shake the feeling that Aang is involved somehow.

The series will probably go through every element as the avatar, yeah? I'm quite interested to see the avatar with fire as his/her main element.

It's hard to say. It's such a great franchise it's hard to see them not continuing after Korra, but I imagine they'll explore the time between Aang and Korra as well as Korra's later life (assuming she survives LoK) before going to another Avatar.

By the way, I don't know how generally known this is in Avatar fandom, but I just found out, so I thought I'd let people know - Dark Horse Comics has a ton of Avatar comics out, both taking place during the events of TLA and a new series that picks up a year after. Buying them all as soon as I get back, of course.

O.o WHY THEY NO MAKE TV SERIES?

I'm told that Legend of Korra has actually been getting very good numbers. One would imagine that a second sequel series - perhaps a full one this time - might not be off the cards.

The more the merrier, so far as I'm concerned. I just feel like with only two seasons, they'll have a lot of ground still to tread in Republic City and with Korra without having to give us the Earth avatar. And could definitely toss in a few movies or miniseries exploring Aang further as well.

Nickelodeon is so into the Avatar universe they show multiple blocks of Aang & Korra episodes on a daily basis. I think that the show will be fine and will easily get a second or third season. Not like Nick has much else to offer.

Let's hope so. Anyway, who would you like to see from the past Avatar? I'd definitely wanna see Aang and Sokka the most.

I don't know, but I feel the plot is just flying by. I'm at episode 6 and it feels like the main plots are ready for a climax already. I gotta say, Amon looks badass. Wonder if the explanation to how he learned that trick Aang made is coming soon.
