I apologize guys. I needed to do it. He was wrong. I'm still a fan. I watch casually, and remember the good old days of MMA...

"Good old days of MMA"? Today MMA is the best it's ever been, man.

That said, I agree with you that MMA will never reach boxing at its peak. MMA will become huge and stay so (and boxing will eventually become nothing once guys like Floyd Mayweather Jr, and Manny Pacquiao are through with the sport), but MMA will never have stars like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, etc. That's just impossible. Even LeBron James won't be able to get that kind of recognition when its all said and done. Boxing has meant so much to the United States and the World as a whole throughout history. Hell, even today I'd be hard press to say there's anyone in MMA who's as big of draw as Manny Pacquiao. Not even Lesnar. But still... there's only two stars left boxing, and it doesn't look like anymore are coming anytime soon.

I started watching UFC back when it was like UFC 7. I liked watching it then, even enjoyed it. I liked that there was usually 2 different styles going at it. Judo v. Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Bar Room Brawling v Grappling. It was different than anything, and wrestling sucked then. I'm not saying it's not "at it's best" now, but I prefer the old product. Matter of preference, basically.

Totally agree with you NSL. I'm a fan of MMA and have been for a few years now, but I can say pretty confidently MMA will NEVER reach the heights of boxing. Mainly because the public will always view MMA as a brutal sport for psychopaths. Obviously that's not the truth, but that's how it's perceived. It doesn't have the regal honor of boxing, and never will.

Boxing is, was, and always has been crooked. Not for every match, and not for every card, but there's been fixes and outside influence for a long time.

Yeah I should have added sarcasm tags there I guess. It's the public perception that boxing is some honorable sport though, and always will be. Not even Mike Tyson could kill the honor of boxing. Can you imagine what would happen if in a UFC Heavyweight title fight someone bit the other guy's ear off, and spit it out with a grin on his face? There'd be fucking congressional hearings within a week on whether or not we should ban the sport.

True. As much as I hated what Tyson did, I'm pretty sure I'd never miss another MMA fight as long as I lived.
