The Miz To Receive A Monster Push, Plus He's The New Intercontinetal Champion!

Hard Hit Prince

Not really working as a
Monday Night Raw may be 25 years old now, but The Miz also won his 8th Intercontinental Championship and he's all-in to break some records in the future. He beat Roman Reigns thanks in part to a genius heel maneuver that swerved even the viewers at home by exposing the turnbuckle. The Brooklyn crowd showed him their love and so did most of the fans that see him as truly a "must-see" superstar for the WWE roster.

He'll be in action tonight in the Mixed Match Challenge with Asuka and given his partner he's most likely a favorite to win it all. He'll also be in the Rumble match and as we all know, it's the first stop in the Road to WrestleMania season.

According to David Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio:
Regarding The Miz, Meltzer noted that he is currently in the beginning of a monster push. Miz is scheduled for a major WrestleMania 34 match but there's no word yet on who he might be facing. The Miz is scheduled to be booked as a top guy during WrestleMania season and the new "Miz & Mrs." USA Network reality TV show with Maryse may tie into that.

I would like very much to see Daniel Bryan and The Miz at WrestleMania. That story just writes itself off, which is also great for The Intercontinental Championship, because Daniel Bryan never truly lost it after capturing it at WrestleMania 31 (just right before he retired).

I wouldn't mind Chris Jericho as well, but he's too busy being awesome elsewhere and I wish him nothing but the best. Those two however has been a dream feud for some time now, and with the Intercontinental Championship on the line, front and center, it could actually deliver a fantastic storyline and as great a match as Miz's with Ziggler some years ago too.

  • Are you happy he's in line for a monster push?
  • Is he World Title bound in 2018?
  • Who will he face at WrestleMania?

Edit: Can some of the mods please change the typo in the title? It's "Intercontinental Championship". I'm sorry.

I have no problem with a big push for Miz. He's been doing great work for years. However, I doubt he'll fit in the Universal Championship picture this year. Between Lesnar, Reigns, Strowman, possibly Balor with his new faction, as well as the occasional other challenger in the mix, I don't see a lot of room for him. Given that he is approaching Jericho's record though, a feud between the two would be fitting.

If he were to move back to Smackdown, I could see it there this year, but that would be a quick turnaround seeing as he just got to Raw last year.

It's about time, really.

The Miz is definitely one of the very few highlights on Monday nights and given that he's probably one of the better Intercontinental Champions of all time, he deserves a pretty big push. The Miz and Roman Reigns have some crazy chemistry and I wouldn't be surprised if they feud over the Universal Championship after Roman wins it at Wrestlemania. I do feel he would be better suited on Smackdown perhaps where the main event scene isn't really all that crowded. But given his ability on the microphone, he can out perform most of the big names on the RAW roster in terms of carrying a story. He'll do fine on either brand.

As for Wrestlemania, the perfect story in a perfect world would see him facing Chris Jericho as he's likely to break the record for most Intercontinental Championship reigns of all time. Have The Miz call out former champions and humiliate them until Jericho makes his return and we get the opportunity to witness two of the greatest talkers of all time carry a story that pretty much writes itself. The Miz has proven time and time again he's one of the best workers in the company and given how great 2017 was for The Miz, he'll take advantage of whatever is given to him and turn it into pure gold.

1. Absolutely yes.
2. Yes, I think so.
3. "Major" to me sounds like he'll be getting the odd one out in the Braun/Angle/Triple H triangle. Chris Jericho would be great but I'm not sure what Jericho's schedule is looking like. Roman presumably will be tied up with Brock, Taker will be tied up with Cena if he's competing at all... and at least in my opinion there's no one else on the roster to classify as "major"... maybe something interpromotional with Smackdown but I doubt that... unless that thing with Bryan from last night is gonna lead to something but... that's a whole nother discussion.

Bringing in a Goldberg/Batista would be major but seems way too random.

Are you happy he's in line for a monster push? - Works just fine for me. Miz has been doing the best work of his career over the span of the last few years. It took about almost a decade for it to happen, but Miz has become someone that's embraced by internet and indie fans. Even if he hadn't, Miz has worked his ass off for WWE with a work ethic that's probably pretty close to that of John Cena and he's been great for the Intercontinental Championship. Roman Reigns was a genuinely good, babyface fighting champion but I'm glad he's not heading into WrestleMania in a title vs. title bout with Lesnar.

Is he World Title bound in 2018? - I see Miz heading back to SmackDown with the Intercontinental Championship while Bobby Roode is traded to Raw with the United States Championship after WrestleMania. I don't know that Miz will be WWE Champion on the blue brand or if he'll just continue to rise in prominence as the IC champ. I wouldn't mind seeing Miz square off against AJ Styles for the WWE Championship, I think they'd work well together and could put together a really fun program. Now that I think on it, I suppose it's possible that Miz can remain on Raw as Intercontinental Champion and eventually get into a title vs. title thing with Roman Reigns though I think it's more likely Miz will be heading back to the blue brand via the WWE Draft or Superstar Shakeup.

Who will he face at WrestleMania? - If the plan is to keep Miz on Raw, I wouldn't mind seeing him enter a program with Finn Balor. WWE needs to do something with Balor so making his alliance with Gallows & Anderson an ongoing one is a good start, but he needs a program with some meat to it and I think going after Miz's Intercontinental Championship is a good start. I could see Miz dropping the title to Balor at WrestleMania, fail to get it back and embark on a journey to take the Universal Championship from Roman Reigns over the course of the summer, if he remains on Raw. However, I think Miz's career will be defined by the Intercontinental Championship, I think he'll win it for the 9th time at some point, in which he ties with Chris Jericho, feud with Chris Jericho due to Jericho wanting to break his own record but Miz will ultimately be the one to win the title a total of 10 times.

There are several different scenarios I mentioned for Miz as there are many interesting directions they could take him. Personally, I'm just glad that so many other fans have finally started embracing the guy over the past few years; like most others, I'd written him off as he really hadn't done much of anything aside from some lame duck IC title reigns that were basically over before they began after dropping the WWE Championship. However, I always said that Miz had talent and he looks guaranteed for the HOF someday.

Balor Club vs. Miztourage evens things out, too. I think Finn is a great choice to be The Miz's WM opponent though I'd love Jericho.

But he's just kinda..blah, isn't he? I can't be alone in thinking this. He's good at what he does but he doesn't stand out at all. He's at his best when he's conducting Miz TV between two starts who he isn't necessarily feuding with.

He's been the savior of the IC title for a while now and i truly like him in that role, i feel that since they like to make a big thing out of that multi person ladder match they like to do at mania, i wouldn'T be surprise if that's the spot he would be given for mania which i feel would be fine for him. Another idea, would be to give him the Kurt Angle match at mania. The fact that they planted seed earlier in the year about how Miz doesn't like angle as GM could explain the why he wants to fight Angle.

This would make more sense then doing a match with the other brand's GM for no apparent reason especially when that GM as already a storyline that's probably gonna lead him to something big at mania anyway.

So again, like always i take a wait and see approach when Meltzer reports stuff like that because Vince as the tendency to change is mind easily when stuff like that does leak to Meltzer or other dirt sheet writers. So let's wait and see what happens.

If it were 2012, I could totally relate to this post. But he's gotten considerably better in the ring and he's evolved his character over the past two years more so than anyone else. He stands out because he actually has a bit of character and his charisma is unmatched. I'd put him over a large majority of the roster.

I feel his character is more well rounded than it was a few years ago, but I have a hard time believing people tune in specifically for The Miz when he's wrestling.

He does the WWE style very well. So we'll that he'll never shine brighter than than people above his tier. Which I suppose is the point.

When Miz has a match, more often than not, I zone out. He's stole about as many shows as Dolph Ziggler.

Should have happened last year, really. But, they give Miz his time, saw that one year after he's still red hot and now decide to push him. Amazing news, cause he and Braun are really the best parts of RAW. No shit.

To be frank, I don't want him to win a world championship. I don't think it's needed or that it will make any difference in today's WWE. Why not give the IC a better booking? Make it stronger. What I want, is to see the Miz hold the IC Championship for ever. HE starts the year as champion, well, let him close the year as champion.

As far as WM goes, I don't really know who he's going to face, but I think it might be Seth Rollins. He's the only top RAW guy that makes sense and Miz could defeat.
Balor isn't really a top guy, neither is Woken Matt and Strowman can't afford a loss. Plus, they might do Angle vs HHH.
So, this leaves out Rollins and why not? Miz has been feuding with the Shield for the entire year now. He's feuded with Ambrose, Reigns and the whole Shield. Rollins is the one left.

The Miz should be The Universal Champion right now and holding it for a long time. There's no better heel in the entire world of professional wrestling at the moment. One could argue Braun Strowman and that's fine. But The Miz is excellent on the Mic, he has a great gimmick, he has longevity in the ring and his matches are great, plus his in ring storytelling is some of the best in WWE. The only problem is the massive star power of Brock Lesnar. The guy's name alone puts asses in seats and obliterates The Miz's name on any match card. Brock should be used as the big star attraction for a big star match...he doesn't need the Universal Championship on top of that too. Miz should have been champion a long time ago to build a big pay off for some face down the line.

WWE would be smart to have Jericho defeat Miz at Mania for the I-C Title and then move him over to Smackdown where he could have a World Title reign again. Move Balor over with him as a Miz-Balor feud for the World Title in 2018 would be solid. Then maybe have Elias Sampson win the I-C belt from Jericho to give his character the push that seems deserved as well.

Meltzer in february/march

"Plans changed and now Miz is scheduled to lose his Championship to Balor in a 5 minute bathroom break match at Wrestlemania"

Really cant see it. He is great in the mic and all but he lost that title because he had to shoot the movie and they wanted Reigns as Champion because Brock wasnt there. Now he just got it back so Reigns could get to Brock and that is it. No real story, probably not even a Wrestlemania plan for him at the moment as there wasnt really plans for him for the last year(he didnt even defend that title at all), just speculations based on his one midcard Championship win.

Even if Meltzer isnt a complete hack and you believe him who is he going to defend against to top any of this planned matches

Reigns vs Brock
Strowman vs HHH
Cena vs Taker
Styles vs Nakamura

OK, Rollins, Balor and Jericho are maybe there as opponents but none of those matches are top. They are midcard matches.

There's a rumor out there that Batista wants one more lengthy WWE run.

The Royal Rumble could use a little more meat on Sunday and I wouldn't be shocked if he makes an appearance.

Miz vs. Batista at WrestleMania would be OK with me.

Of course, a guy can always hope that CM Punk makes the resurrection of Christ look normal by reappearing in a wrestling ring. Pretty sure that would be classified as a monster push for Miz (but it's never happening).

He is. I think people just pop for blood sweat and tears regardless of the fact that The Miz overall is the epitome of a B+.

Miz is a mid-carder just like the rest of the roster, he was would be a jobber during the Monday Night wars.... like the rest of the current roster.

However props are due, the guy knows how to talk and carry himself into feuds. The rest of the company can learn a lot from him.

I think best way to book Miz going forward....

1) Miz wins the Rumble
2) Instead of challenging Lesnar he says he's heard that AJ Styles is considered the best wrestler in the World, well at Mania that conversation will change!!! And when it comes to Smackdown Live it'll be my face that runs the place!!!
3) He drops the I-C Title prior to Mania (I-C Title is then put in a ladder match at Mania where you could have (Rollins vs. Jordan vs. Wyatt vs. Matt Hardy vs. Balor vs. Jericho)
4) Miz defeats Styles at Mania and moves to Smackdown

Meltzer most have seen the season finale of total divas. according to the show, Miz will become a father during Mania weekend since Maryse's due date is april 6th, so i'm guessing that's what he meant when i said that the Miz was getting a huge push going into Mania season.... LOL.

But in all seriousness, Miz always gets a huge push around this time of the year, last year he got the Cena match so it's nothing new with him. He's a great talker that can get heat pretty much anytime he wants and can put over the babyface and made them look like a million bucks. So i wouldn't be surprise if he defends the title again Finn Balor at mania or somebody high profile like that

Miz deserves a main event push. He needs a move back to Smackdown though during the next draft or brand shakeup this year. He can feud with AJ during that push. Honestly my plan for Miz is as follows:

Let him have his run with IC title on Raw and let's hypothetically say brand shakeup is sometime after Mania. He gives up IC title because he's moved to SD. Once on SD, he is built to feud with AJ for the title building up to a big match at a SD PPV over the summer only to have him pissed because GM Daniel Bryan did something as GM that possibly costs Miz the title. Then I'd go full forward with Miz berating Bryan with harassment, trash talk, even getting physically involved every chance he gets as Miz can get viscious on the mic when he is allowed to do so. Bryan continues to resist each step because of not being cleared. Have Bryan want to get reinstated but Brie talks him down. The last straw comes when Miz, along with Maryse attack Brie and humiliate her causing Bryan to go nuts and demand reinstatement or he walks. The WWE makes the hyped return match for Bryan against the Miz at Summerslam. Then after that, you have them compete in mixed tag match with their wives at SD PPV, ultimately culminating their feud in a Hell in a Cell match (assuming DB is good to go) the next month or at Survivor Series.
