The Miz... The next Chris Benoit?

Coco

Mid-Card Championship Winner
We all know how things have gone with The Miz in WWE so far. He started out in the mid-card, then later went on to win the WWE title and win the main event of WrestleMania 27. The Miz is now slowly starting to go back down to mid card talent as he is held to a U.S. title PRE-SHOW match tonight.

Chris Benoit... a guy who had always been fan favorite in WWE. Benoit, much like Miz, started off as a mid-card but would later on win his first World Title at WrestleMania. After staying on the Main Event level for a while, Benoit dropped down to a Mid-Carder. He has won the United States Championship and fueded with guys like JBL and MVP. Then he killed his family and took the easy way out rather than take the judicial system's punishment like a man.

Both of these superstars seem to have the same career shaping out as guys who have been on top, but fallen back down to mid card talent that WWE has ready if they need in the main event.

Is the Miz becoming what Benoit was? Will Miz be stuck as an Upper Mid-Card for his career? And will the path that WWE has set him on eventually lead him to take the lives of those closest to him as well as his own life?

I personally hope this is just a phase in his career and will turn out to light a character change in Miz and go back to the top, avoiding certain tragedy.

What do You Guys Think? Thoughts??

I think some may take this the wrong way because of what Benoit did to his family, but I get what you're trying to say.

Miz is great. People just get sick of him, people don't wanna see him constantly in the main title scene. He's kind of like Orton in that aspect that people just don't care to see him in the title run for long periods of time. I think what he should do is win the US championship tonight and kind of breathe some life into that belt and the competition surrounding it. Santino just can't do that.

I wouldn't say he's fallen and I wouldn't even say that Benoit fell because Benoit got his chance and while he was a fan favorite I don't think he was the best champion around. Did he deserve the WHC though? You're damn right.

Miz has a chance to recover, hes got the potential to be one of the top guys and I think that if Truth didn't get suspended the tag team they had would have carried Miz over for a while until he reappeared in the title hunt. Some can say also that Miz blew it when he didn't catch Truth which was kind of fucked up.

Really though I think he will be back. I don't think he's gonna sit down in upper midcard forever but I'm not sure if this year will be a year where he does it because of all thats happened.

i could not think of 2 totally opposite performers...

beniot was dull on the mic, but great technically, miz is the exact opposite...

but yeah, they both started out as mid-carders/us/tv champs, but so did countless other guys...

I don't like how people just assume Miz will be in the same spot forever. Benoit was, what, 36/37 when he won his first title. Miz is 31. That's quite a difference and Benoit only lived for a few years after he won. Miz has many years left and he can easily move up. Just look at the heels in front of him though: On Raw there's Brock, Y2J, Kane(to a degree), the Rock(he's face, but he moves everyone down when he's there) and ADR whenever he gets pushed. In 1 year, I can see Y2J, Brock, Rock being gone. That lets Miz bump up a little. On Smackdown, he could be a top contender. Hell, maybe Miz might even get a shot at the title if Punk wins tonight, that would be a good feud too. It's just that Raw is crowded right now and we just have to be patient. So what if he has a US title run now? It just adds to his credentials and his original reign wasn't bad.

After all, Sheamus has a US title reign before he won the WHC a year later. Jericho won the IC title when he returned a few years ago and then won the world title after that.

Be patient.

Chris Benoit... a guy who had always been fan favorite in WWE.

Always a fan favorite? What fans considered him their favorite? Benoit was a heel the majority of his time in WWE. He rolled around the midcard because he couldn't gain a crowd reaction or draw a dime.

Really? You cannot be serious, OP.

Chris Benoit killed his wife, kid and himself because of the massive amount of the steroids he took and concussions he sustained, not because he never made it back to the main event scene after his 2004 run. To even suggest something like that is a display of ignorance and idiocy so vast that I begin to wonder how you went an entire post without a single spelling mistake...but back to the "topic"

As for career paths parallels, Miz really has no business being near the main event right now...his talking act has gotten stale and his in ring skills aren't special enough to justify using him as such. He needs a break, whether it's a move to Smack Down or a face turn, just something to spark him again. But in all honesty, Miz has accomplished far more than he ever should have, he's not long term main event material, he's not a Cena or an Orton...Miz doesn't have the look, or the presence of John Cena, he doesn't really do anything all that well...

The fact is, sure there are some similarities in terms flash in the pan one time main eventers, but at the end of the day- Miz is Miz and Benoit is a tragic failure of a human being...

There's no comparison.

Miz will be the next Big Show, just without the size - Fact, you heard it here first!

Also you need to be raped for even comparing Benoit to the Miz ..

Let's start with the obvious. You have issues. Benoit killed his family yes, but he was NOT in the frame of mind when you think about it and when the results of his brain exam came in.

Now as far as career paths. In WCW Benoit was held down by politics. Don't kid yourself. Let's go to WWE...

Miz and Benoit sure have some similarities in their careers but come on are you really going to insinuate that Miz is going to have the same mental issues that Chris did? Remember...WWE doesn't do head shots anymore. When was the last time you saw a diving head butt? Benoit took so many headshots that you KNOW some of them had to register.

Miz will do what he has to do to survive and succeed in the WWE. So he's in the mid-card at present. If he were in the main event picture right now you'd be complaining about a clusterf*ck of people in that picture. In case you haven't noticed WWE is trying to reduce main event areas. Brock and Cena are in a rivalry. WWE is clearly trying to transition. Miz will be back in the upper level again simply because people do enjoy his work.

As far as this thread goes I really hope you get flagged and ban. Why even insinuate that Miz will become a mentally unstable killer.

OP - "What do you guys think? Thoughts?"

I think you are an idiot and my thoughts are that you should never write another post again.

Always a fan favorite? What fans considered him their favorite? Benoit was a heel the majority of his time in WWE. He rolled around the midcard because he couldn't gain a crowd reaction or draw a dime.

Benoit was a heel from 2000 to Early 2001, then 2002 (starting May). If my math is correct he was a heel for 22 months. Considering Benoit's 7 year career in the WWE, I think majority of his stay in the WWE was a face.

Benoit couldn't gain a crowd reaction? So I guess the ovation from Royal Rumble 2003 was just a way to impair his hearing. And yes Benoit was a draw, not a major one but, saying he couldn't draw a dime is just as ignorant as those old timers in WCW trying to hold their spot.

As for Miz being the next Benoit, I doubt it. The Miz was a lot younger than Benoit when he won the title. Also Benoit's World Title Reign was more about being an accumulation of his great career (as he was already in his late 30's) while the WWE Title was a way to kickstart THe Miz's status as a top tier Talent.
