Toronto region is SICK!

Hogan, HHH, Undertaker (sub-city!), Misawa, Thesz, The Rock, Cena, Gorgeous George....and that doesn't even touch on the guys who I think are just a level below, like Hennig, DiBiase, Kawada, Backlund, Abdullah, Dusty Rhodes...and then you have IWC darling Dynamite Kid there as well! Good lord. I don't know if my man Hogan is going to be able to overcome the general IWC hate to get out of this region. It's non-stop.

Every Region is sick this year which is why this tournament is going to rule. Definitely worried for my man, HBK, in the chicago region. You have him, Bret, Owen, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Foley, Savage, Kenta Kobashi, Sting, and Kurt Angle? Holy Crap! The tournament is going to be a good one this year with these kinds of regions. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing how Bret vs Edge, and HHH vs Lesnar turn out.

There are matches to watch in every area. Obviously there are ones that stand out more than others (Bret vs. Edge, Lesnar vs. HHH) but there are also some great little gems in there (Benoit vs. Wolfe/McGuinness, Orton vs. Funk). Jericho doesn't have that tough an opponent in the first round with Hayes but Muta or Malenko could be a problem as well as Vader and Austin waiting later on. I'll be doing my best though.

It is but it isn't. It's probably the best match, and if it turns into Gelgarin vs XFear it could be a preview of the Thread of the Year, but Edge / Hart will get more action I think.

More action, maybe, but are there really that many people who will argue to put Edge over Hart?

Of course, as I say this, I'm remembering that fiasco with Misawa-Edge in the Wrestlezone Olympics, so...fair point.

are you serious? who did he face

The finals last year were Edge and Bret Hart, which Bret Hart won. Edge made it so far mainly because one of our more prolific posters, TheOneBigWill, argued hard and made case after case and was able to convince people to keep voting for Edge. He hyped Edge all the way past guys like Austin and the Undertaker before he finally lost in the finals to Bret Hart. This seems to happen in every tournament, one guy makes a great run based on a poster supporting him hard, in the original tournament it was me carrying Terry Funk to the final four, later it was IC carrying Vader to the elite eight, and so on.

If you can make an argument compelling enough to make someone side with you on a match-up, the possibilities are endless. 'Tis why I love this darned tournament.

EDIT: Oh and god damnit, am I the only one here who can spell Nick Bockwinkel's last name correctly? It's BOCKWINKEL, not Bockwinkle.

I spell it right, Xfear. :D

And I'm pushing Stan Hansen as hard as I can in this thing. He's a damn good worker and is better than 3/4ths of this field. You're going to have to have an iron clad argument to beat me on a debate as to why Hansen can win against ANYONE in this damn tournament.

Wow, a round one rematch of last year's finals. AND poor Moolah drew Hogan...

Can't help but wonder if Bret's recent return will help/hurt Will's pro-Edge campaign, or of it will have any effect at all on the overall voting...

me and my boy curt goin all the way then because hes 10x the worker edge is

I really can't wait for the Sting vs Hayabusa match. Sting is one of my favorite american wrestler, and Hayabusa is one of my all time favorite Japanese wrestler. That's going to be a great showdown. And hopefully Eiji makes it to the second round, But I'm pretty sure that he will.

Mitsuhara Misawa vs. Lou Thesz
I'll definitely be watching this match closely. I'm a big big Misawa fan from his days of Tiger Mask II. I'll be backing the greatest Japanese Wrestler to put on wrestling boots. I've logged hours upon hours watching videos of him on Youtube and for those who have read my threads, I do a lot of research on wrestlers so I've used up a lot of time that I should be studying, reading on-line about great Japanese wrestlers like Misawa. I can't wait to debate with the Lou Thesz fans. This is my first tournament so I'll be way over my head, but I'm up to the challenge. One thing's for certain though, whoever wins this match will take St. Louis.

Sting vs. Hayabusa
I have to admit that I am biased towards Japanese wrestlers. The first match that I watched live was in Japan and I throughly enjoy watching matches on-line by Tiger Mask 1,2,3 and 4, Jushin Liger, Great Sasuke and Hayabusa. Speaking of Hayabusa, I can't wait to see the arguments by others for him because his career was cut short because of a botched move. It's really hard to compare his career with the career of Sting whose still wrestling today and has been in the wrestling for much of his life. Regardless, I will be backing up Hayabusa in this match. I can't wait to post in this tournament. This is the best invention since the lace thong.

Justin Thunder Liger vs. Kerry Von Erich
Quote possibly the best junior wrestler in Japanese history, I'm pushing Liger in this match. He's the Hulk Hogan of Japan but knowing that much of the posters here despise Hogan, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Liger Bomb for the win. Oh and for anyone who would like to watch, here is Hayabusa's debut match against Liger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je9ijeBh2Zg

Dynamite Kid vs. Dusty Rhodes
I feel like many of the Dusty Rhodes fans will feel this is an easy match but I'm gonna try to prove them otherwise. Dusty is a legend in the states and essentially carried wrestling in America for many years but Dynamite Kid's matches in Japan with Tiger Mask were historic. They wrestled in the very first five star match and many of the wrestlers today could only dream of working a match like these two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn7QNZPYMP8

Other matches I'll be watching very closely:
Bobby Lashley vs. Tiger Mask I
Vader vs. Mil Mascaras
Rey Mysterio vs. Scott Hall
Chris Benoit vs. Desmond Wolfe
Randy Orton vs. Terry Funk
Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H
Jimmy Snuka vs. Gorgeous George
Goldberg vs. Stu Hart

3. Randy Orton vs. Terry Funk
4. Yokozuna vs. Steve Austin

I went through the list one by one and highlighted the matches I had a genuine interest in. I lie - that Scott Hall/Mysterio one isn't all that interesting.

I don't understand why The Fabulous Moolah was placed in the tournament in the first place. She doesn't even crack my personal list of the top three women's workers; and if the decision to place her in was due to her importance to women's wrestling, then Mildred Burke would have deserved that spot even more.

Oh well, easy win for Hogan I suppose.

God the Toronto Region is stacked. Any of the Big Names in there have a legit chance of winning the whole thing if they don't kill each other.

Tokyo should be called the NWA Region since there is a very good chance we might see a Steamboat-Benoit/Flair-Race Region final.

Chicago boils down to the winner of Savage-Bret/HBK and Sting-Angle

Mexico City is Jericho's or Austin's to lose depending on the outcome of Yoko/Austin.
