Steve Austin vs. Kane(c)-WWE Championship Monday Night Raw June 29, 1998
A one day title run Kane was the biggest heel at this time and could have held it a good while. At least longer than a damn day!

I know Cena was returning on this day, but what even earned him this match? A broken neck? A new champion for no reason..

Jericho (c) v Batista: Cyber Sunday 2008

Jericho had been having a great feud over the year with Shawn. Batista somehow became No. 1 contender for the title with Stone Cold as the ref. Batista ended up winning the match ONLY TO LOSE THE BELT JUST OVER ONE WEEK LATER ON RAW in a steel cage match back to Jericho. At the time of the PPV Batista was already injured but they still decided to hand him the belt knowing that he would need to be out for a while to recoup. Gladly Jericho won the title in a pretty good steel cage match. But just like D-Will316 stated above, Jericho lost the title not long after to the undeserving Cena who happened was named the No.1 contender against the winner of the cage match at the Survivor Series.
Yeah, I guess they didn't want Cena to beat Batista for the title since they were both face at the time but they already knew Batista would be out of commission so there was no real point in having Batista win it in the first place.

Bob Backlund vs Diesel

Backlund had just defeated Bret Hart at the Survivor Series in a “Throw in the Towel” match. But for some reason they had him drop the title to Diesel 2 days later. And as if that wasn’t bad enough it wasn’t even a televised match.

It was a major missed opportunity by the WWE. They could have built Backlund up as a major heel around his defeat of Hart. Let him defend the title a few times and then let him drop the title to Diesel at the Royal Rumble.

I don't know what it was with WWE putting World Tites on Roidista when he was already injured and set to have surgery, but they did the same thing a few months later with him beating Orton for the WWE Championship only to be stripped on it the next night and then Orton won it back the next week in a four corner match... Why?

TNA Impact April 19, 2010 - RVD vs. AJ Styles

AJ was literally in the middle of the best reign in TNA history. He had the Evolution forming in his favor, he had the title, he had the greatest mentor ever in Ric Flair, and he had just become the biggest heel in TNA. And what do Bischoff and Hogan do? They take the belt off of him for some second rate ECW lame who couldn't match AJ's ability if AJ was fucking Santino. Not only that, but he lost on an Impact. Why? There was nothing special going on. Why not have it at least be a PPV title match where he lost? Really made no sense.

Triple H (c) vs. Hulk Hogan at Backlash 2002

Triple H had made his grand return from injury to win the Rumble and beat Chris Jericho to win the Undisputed Title only to drop the title to Hogan a month later. I still to this day don't understand why he they would have him drop the belt as he was to face Chris Jericho at Judgment Day in a Hell in a Cell match and that would have been a more intriguing title match instead of having Hogan champ at that stage of his career.

I am going to go more old school, and say Wrestlemania VI, Hogan dropping the belt to the Ultimate Warrior. Giving Jim Hellwig the WWF championship may have been the single greatest mistake Vince McMahon ever made from a booking standpoint. I was a kid, I got caught up in the Warrior. He was exciting to say the least...but he was also batshit crazy, something I couldn't have appreciated when I was young. Batshit crazy and championship gold are not a good combination.

Benoit needed a longer run than that and it was just a pitiful attempt to get the title back to Triple H.

Bob Backlund vs. Billy Graham (C): The biggest mistake Vince Sr. ever made was making Backlund the champion. Sure he could wrestle, but he was the most boring WWF/E champion ever,Graham couldn't wrestle, but he sure could sell out any arena and that is better than being a great wrestler sometimes. If Graham would have kept the title he would have been in Hulk Hogan's spot in the 80's instead of Hogan.

Ronnie Garvin vs. Ric Flair (C): The NWA wanted a new champion, but Garvin was the only person who said yes, big mistake. When Garvin was announced as the new champ, the crowd instantly hated him, because he was not worthy of the title. Flair should have won the match against Garvin at the house show, and kept to title until Starrcade where Flair would have lost to Barry Windham. Which would have been huge because Flair was undefeated at Starrcade.

the Flair Garvin title switch was going to be my answer. but heres the deal on why that went down.
1. Flair wanted a break for a couple months. he had been going nonstop with the title for almost 2 years and this point and just wanted to take some time off before Starrcade that year.
2. Crockett and the NWA guys wanted to have Flair going for the belt in Starrcade instead of defending it. he had defended the title in every Starrcade other than the very first one, so they wanted to change it up abit.

the problem was, everybody knew that Flair was going to get the belt back within 2 months of losing it, and that whoever was going to get the belt for this transition period was basicallly just going to be parading it out on TV every week, not making defenses and just "keeping it warm" until Flair won it back at Starrcade. nobody in the locker room wanted to be that guy. they offered it to Windham, and he turned it down.

Dusty being head booker at the time, offered it to his good buddy ronnie Garvin who knowing full well this would be his only chance to get a run with the belt, gladly took it and the rest as they say is history. IMO they should have gave the strap to Windham at the Crockett Cup earlier in the year or even the Bash that summer, then have Flair get it back at Starrcade. Windham deserved a reign at the time and longer than the token transitional reign they offered him right before Starrcade.
