The last great debut of a wrestler

of course Jerichoes goes dow as the all time greatest it was just manic... the two best mic acts in wrestling doing what they do best.... Kane's debut and Goldbergs were a close second and third respectively.... the last few years its been slim pickings for great debuts.

My favourite debut of the last few years however was MNMs... remember the Eddie Mysterio rivarly was just starting to gain steam with Carlito there to play the spoiler... then suddenly... the best midcarder entrance in the wwe(the best tag team entrance bar the Hardys), the last of the great heel diva's/managers Melina, those splits.... was just so well crafted.

I pine for heel Melina as great as she is a wrestler....she could have made a pretty powerful manager too.

John Cena's debut wasn't that great, he LOST against Kurt Angle, but he almost did beat him several times.

My pic of the bunch would have to be either Kurt Angle (TNA) or Y2J (1999 Debut) or hell even the Radicalz debut in early 2000 was out of left field.

i know ima b crucified but Cenas debut was pretty swet da whole ruthless agression wit Angle cuttin a awesome short ans sweet promo den dere smooth almost perfect match witch saw Kurt win (slightly) still all in all a great debut in2 da greater scheme of things

Really suprised no on has mentioned the Great Kahli. He had a great debut coming in the middle of an Undertaker match, no music, and proceeded to beat the hell out of him. The things that made this debut great were the announcer reactions, and the fact that he DESTROYED THE UNDERTAKER. The whole Taker punching him and Kahli not even movving immedietly built him as THE new powerhouse of smackdown. Unfortunatley he has ended up nothing more than a joke in the WWE. :(

Im goin 2 go with Lesner's debut on this 1 as him jumping the barricades n KILLING the people in the ring was just mental @ the time.

As of recent times I would pick The Nexus, Oso's and my favourite Alberto Del Rio's. Admittedly much like Maryse I hated their vignettes because they was spoken all the way through them in their native tongues, But as soon as they hit my screen I loved them. Again admittedly I loved Maryse in different way then Del Rio :lmao: From the Bentley 2 the old Christian entrance with the golden pyro shower 2 the his OWN PERSONAL ring announcer how could u NOT think 2 yourself...
"Now THIS IS a great debut :worship:

IMO the greatest to date would be Goldbergs. I remember watching his first match and thinking 'man this guy is going to be a beast'. It wasn't just the debut but how they handled the storyline after the fact.

But in no one has mentioned, IN THE FUTURE! The greatest debut will be STEVE BORDEN (aka STING) TO WWE!!!!!!! If that will ever happen I will shit my pants. They better build that shit up now till Wrestlemania.

Im going have to go with RVD in TNA earlyer this year it was the second best debut in the past 7 or 8 years after kurt in tna and the second loudest pop iv heard in the impact zone since kurts debut

I loved the Flair debut in the WWF back in 1991. For weeks Bobby the Brain would show the WCW title and talk about how the REAL world champion was coming to the WWF and how it would be an embarassment to compare Hogan to him. I couldn't believe my eyes when Flair finally showed up !

I loved Scott Steiner's return to the WWE in 2002. I had been waiting for Scott to appear in the WWE ever since WCW had gone out out business and the crowd pops like mad when the siren starts playing. They know the Genetic Freak is in the house!

I loved how the words "Holla If Ya Hear Me" appear on the door on the entrance way, and the door slides open and out struts Scotty, looking as jacked as ever.

He gets in the ring and demands that someone "give me a f*ckin mic!" Haha classic Steiner. This was one of the last times that a genuine star debuted in the WWE (yes I know Goldberg came after this), someone who was already a BIG name. With the demise of WCW and ECW, and TNA not yet at the level where this is possible, it will be a while before there are any more.

Chris Jericho's debut is easily the greatest. The Countdown to the Millenium clock was a brilliant idea, it built so much suspense and when the clock finally counted from 10 during The Rock's promo then played the theme song, showed the beginning of the titantron with the buildings then Jericho's named popped up on the screen, the crowd went absolutely berserk for a good few mins, I doubt anyone expected it to be Jericho. And Jericho made it even more excellent with his promo about saving the WWF. I dont think any other debut could top the pop it had.

The last great debut I would say is Carlito. His vignettes were like Razor Ramon's and were pretty hilarious with him kicking kids' sandcastles on the beach and spitting Apple in the old mans face and yelling his catchphrase at him. I admit that during Cena's promo on Smackdown and when the clip from Carlito's vignette where he spit Apple on the old all of a sudden interrupted & played on the screen then Carlito's music played & he came out, I marked out. I thought it was a technical difficulty or that they decided to cut away from Cena's promo before he could finish to play another Carlito vignette, it was a good swerve.

I also liked Chris Masters' debut, his vignettes and even his debut match with Stevie Richards. He was pretty impressive and I thought he had potential to become a main event especially in his Masterlock Challenges with Flair & HBK but unfortunately they wasted him. I miss his old entrance where he would do his 3 poses on the ramp flexing his muscles, thought that was cool.

I like Alberto Del Rio but I wasnt so fond of him in his vignettes, it was till his actual debut where he grew on me and showed me he had character.

I know I have already said Scott Steiner and Goldberg in WWE were the last great debuts, but I totally forgot about Kurt Angle in TNA. That was absolutely legendary. When the video of a blad man played on the big screen, everyone (me included) thought it meant TNA had signed Goldberg and I was pumped from that, but then when it was revealed to be Kurt, I marked out big style.

He had only jsut been released from WWE and noone expected him to show up in TNA so quickly. It was brilliantly done and kept so quiet by TNA. I wish they would do that more often now instead of telling us there will be a big surprise on the next iMPACT.

Tough question. There haven't been any good debuts in a really long time, it's been YEARS. R-Truth had a good build-up with the videos playing to hype his debut, but then when it actually happened.... not so much of an impression there and it rendered the videos pointless in terms of his character in the videos compared to the "WHAT'S UP" rapper we got stuck with. Sheamus had an impressive run instantly after he debuted, but the debut itself was.... eh, not much to write home about. Jericho's comeback in 2007 was amazingly done.... but that was a comeback, not a true debut, as he had worked in WWE before. Honestly, Jericho's original debut probably WAS the last truly impressive debut because none after that come to mind that were even close to being as awesome. They either did not live up to their hype, or the debut itself wasn't great. I think perhaps WWE are paranoid that if they give someone too good of a debut then all of the time invested in that would be lost if the guy pulls a Lesnar and leaves soon afterwards.
