John Higgins, the snooker world number 1 has been accused of match-fixing and has been caught on camera by a tabloid newspaper accepting a deal to throw frames of snooker for an alleged £261,000. The video was filmed in the Ukraine with Higgins and his manager, Pat Mooney involved. In the video, Higgins and Mooney meet with an undercover reporter and seemingly agree to fix the outcomes of matches for an agreed fee. However, both sides are adamant that they are innocent in all of the scandal.
Higgins and Mooney have come out to say that they were sure that they were dealing with members of the Russian Mafia. Higgins said that he thought it best to go along with the scheme and disregard it later, when they were in a safe place. They claim that they have been set up by the media and that they are innocent. Whilst no evidence has been found to support the claim that Higgins is intentionally throwing frames, the governing body has suspended him until the investigation is done. If found guilty, Higgins will almost definitely be banned from the sport after it was claimed he would receive a "very, very, very lengthy suspension from the sport".

Personally, I have never though of Higgins as a dishonest person. He has always been very humble in defeat and victory and has been a great ambassador to the sport. That being said, this was just a stupid thing to do. If he is telling the truth and he did fear for his life, I can see why he did agree to it. Plus, no evidence has been found to reinforce the stories that he is fixing matches. I hope he is found not guilty but we will need to wait and see.
