The greatest goals of all time thread (Soccer)

So guys,

I think we should all get on YouTube, and post links to some of the greatest goals of all time. There is nothing quite like a full stadium erupting after a moment of magic on the field. The goals can be either long range screamers, stunning volleys, world-class team goals, individual bits of genius or simply a goal that is special to you.

I will kick things off with a few of my favourites

Probably my favourite goal of all time, from the most prolific goalscorer in Premier League history. I just never expected Shearer to shoot from there, and the power of that volley is unreal. The keeper never stood a chance!

The Golden Boy of Manchester Utd scores one of the all-time great overhead kicks against Manchester City in the Mancunian Derby. A true wonder goal from a world class talent.

Who else but Dennis Bergkamp would even try and score a goal like this. Flicking it behind him one way, spinning round the defender the other way and slotting home. Bergkamp was an amazing talent. What a player.

Yeboaaaaaaaaaahhhh! A rocket from a man who made a huge impact in his short time in English football, he scored many great goals. It says something that this happened in 1996, and even today if someone scores a screamer in off the bar, people often still refer to it as a "Yeboah".

For the celebration as much as anything else. Probably my favourite goal because it summed up everything that Cantona was: a mixture of power and skill, with the self-assurance that he knew he could pull almost anything off. It's bloody brilliant.

I chose this goal because it defies all logic and the preciseness of how you have to hit the ball in order for it to go in.

The angle itself was almost at a complete 180 from the goal itself, which means you have to kick the inside of the ball with the outside of your foot in order to get a spin like that to happen. To get that much spin and distance takes a ridiculous amount of skill and Roberto Carlos pulled it off (like he did many times in his career).

Just for the amount of difficulty it takes to score a goal like that I had to put it on my list.

I was watching this on TV when it happened and still to this day love it just as much as when it happened. I'm not a Spurs supporter, but I couldn't help but cheer this. Paul Robinson, goal kick almost from his box, all the way over Ben Foster & into the goal. Bloody brilliant.

Look at this goal, and tell me, honestly, that that is not the best volley you've ever seen in your life. The way he comes from out of the picture to just jump in off his two feet and blast the goal in to the top corner is the work of a God.

Now, this goal isn't exactly the best goal you've ever seen, but, make no mistakes about it, it's a beautiful goal. Keeping his shot so low and so precise is something you get right 1 in 10000 times. The goal isn't really what makes it one of my favourites, it's the commentary after it.

This goal just takes my breath away every time I see it. Like DeanerandTerry's it defies all logic and physics. The way the ball take a huge swoosh to the left after being hit with that amount of force is unbelievable. Also, it was one of the first football memories I ever had. It holds a special place in my cold organ that you humas call a heart.

This goal... was... uh... just... so good. Not to mention, it was against Chelski, one of my club's biggest rivals. The way he stops the ball dead, feigns shooting before toe-poking a curler into the net before anyone can say ''goofy teeth'' is phenomenal. I believe it also knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League, so that's a plus, too.

After this goal, I took note of how good Rooney really was, looking past his discipline flaws and overall yob-ness. I like volleys, just incase you hadn't realised.

Now, onto my favourite goal. It all starts with Patrick Viera, the ball stolen off him from none other than Pires (an awful tackler) in what in itself is an awesome interception. Pires threads the ball into Henry who in turn, gives it to Fabregas. What happens next? A legend is born. Greta goal that really showed everyone that a young boy with a rather iffy-looking hairstyle had arrived on the scene. And boy oh boy, he made the most of it.

I know most people here don't watch American soccer, but there are three words you should look for on Youtube: Dwayne De Rosario.

That was the 2005 goal of the year, you can see the curve at the :51 mark.

Probably the best overhead kick I have ever seen! The skill it takes to score a goal like that, from so far out, running away from goal and hitting the ball first time over your head is incredible.

Trevor Sinclair made a habit of scoring spectacular goals, and I am still in awe of this one every time I see it!

Ginny-Franky Zola was a very special player. There are not many other players who would even think of doing this, let alone score such a beautiful goal. A volley from a corner is hard enough to do, let alone a jumping backheel. Unbelievable!

Watch from 1:25 onwards. Del Piero was only a teenager when he scored this. Long ball forward, and as the ball drops over his left shoulder, he uses the outside of his right foot to chip the goalkeeper across goal into the far corner on the volley. I remember having a Football Italia VHS tape as a little kid, and this goal was on it. I loved it then as much as I do now. Amazing

It's a fairly recent goal, but the elegance the guy has in flicking the ball towards goal is a joy to watch. Imaginative, cheeky attempt executed to perfection in the closing minutes of a game. The guy may not make it to a high level in the game, but the fact he can show his kids/grandkids his best goal that was seen by millions of strangers is something that can't get taken from him.

My favourite goal from my favourite player; Giggs' solo run against Arsenal in 99 to keep part 2 of the treble alive. Although the momentum was with United after Schmeichel's penalty save from Bergkamp, having the energy to run at Arsenal's sturdy back-line and tear them apart was incredible to see.

Beautiful. Not just one of Barcelona's best goals but one of the best goals of Spanish Football. In my mind it's better than Rooney's, this was just so much more difficult to score.

And another Zola classic. The Legend had so many great memorable goals.

One of the best goals of all-time, right up there with Maradona's run and Carlos' free-kick.

I've got a soft spot for this goal, when I first watched it on SSN I rewinded it and watched it at least five times. Goal of the season so far in the Premier League.
