The Domino Known as Edge

So, we all saw that Edeg had to retire early last April right after Wrestlemania. As a result, we've seen Smackdown! undergo a lot of change. It kinda makes me think how things would be if Edge were still there. If Edge hadn't been forced into retirement:
  • Christian probably would've never become a World Champion
  • Mark Henry wouldn't be seein such a push
  • Orton would still be on RAW
  • Seamus would probably still be a heel

So, my questions to you:

Do you feel an effect due to Edge's absence?
If Edge were still able to compete, what do you think would be happening on Smackdown?

Do you feel an effect due to Edge's absence?
Not really. And I've answered this question numerous times over the past few months and I'll answer it again; I prefer Smackdown as it is now because it's pointed more at the younger talent now than it was when Edge was around, if Edge hadn't retired then we wouldn't have had the draft and chances are WWE wouldn't have placed so-and-so on the Smackdown brand.

I tune into Smackdown every week to watch guys like Randy Orton, who since the change has gone into what I think is the best few months of his career from a character and wrestling perspective. I watch Christian; I never tuned into Smackdown to watch Edge, I never fully enjoyed his work since Rated RKO ended, Christian to me has always been better. I tune in to watch Cody Rhodes, Danielson, Wade Barrett, Sin Cara, Sheamus and DiBiase. Edge wouldn't be on that list, because he never really made me excited to tune into the show.

So no, I don't feel the abscence of Edge. I think he was an awesome performer, some of the things he did down the years like the live sex celebration, bringing in the Rated R WWE Championship belt, his angle with Matt Hardy and Lita which came from a real life incident; Edge was great, but he was never as good as Christian to me and he wasn't somebody I felt the need to watch since his Royal Rumble return - and two weeks later I didn't care for him anymore.

Edge feuding with Christian. Reports were around that WWE planned to turn Christian heel anyway, everyone thought he'd turn at WrestleMania but WWE held off because the next rumor was Edge vs. Christian vs. Del Rio at Extreme Rules; either way I think Christian would have won the World Heavyweight Championship anyway and would have entered into a long program with Edge.

Everyone knew Edge vs. Christian was coming. But WWE never pulled the trigger and before they could, Edge had to draw his career to a close.

A bit of an odd ball, but if Edge didn't retire, I couldn't see ADR as WWE champion. I could see The Miz as the champion now, after cashing in the Money in the Bank.

I could see Christian as champion, but only about now. No Ortom/Christian feud.

So it could be seen as positive or negative.

Edge's retirement changed some of the plans on Smackdown.
I don't think Christian would've been WHC and I don't think Sheamus would've had a face turn. Orton still would've been drafted cuz SD lacked big face guys. Correct me if I'm wrong but they basically had Big Show, Rey and Edge as the biggest faces at the time. Technically Undertaker was on SD but he was never there. I think Del Rio would've stayed and become the WHC in a scenario much like the one that saw him gain the WWE title. Edge would've dropped the belt to someone after interference or something and Del Rio would've cashed in immediatly on that guy. And over on Raw, Miz or The Truth would be champ.

i would have like to have seen edge vs christian fued for the title...i like orton as champ but that would have been great storyline and i think thats what would be going on if edge didnt retire...

i liked edge and it sucks he had to go, but i dont think it really makes a major impact in the wwe, since they are pushing ALOT of people right now

I'm glad he's gone he's old news that fued with Kane had it's moments though it was nothing special

and I think Orton would of still came over and it would be Edge vs Orton for the title

and Mark Henry would still be jobbing and Sheamus well either middle of the pack on raw or smackdown no real change

Of course there is an effect because of Edge's retirement. Ortan would probably stay on Raw, ADR would probably have been on Smackdown instead. I feel Del rio would be heavyweight champ on smackdown, takin it away from edge in Summerslam.

Do you feel an effect due to Edge's absence?

I do but I actually think it is a good effect. Granted I loved Edge and I would love to still see him in the WWE product, but honestly, if he didn't leave, CM Punk very well might not be where he is now. Hear me out on this. If Edge never left, the odds are that Orton would have stayed on Raw and Edge would have continued to carry the Smackdown brand. We all know that Cena is the number one star on Raw (and WWE for that matter). Orton, because of his ego, would have NEVER given up any bit of his spotlight on Raw and would have stayed the number 2 guy. When Punks contract was up, I am sure Vince and the WWE certainly wouldn't have given Punk the contract they ended up giving him.

If Edge were still able to compete, what do you think would be happening on Smackdown?

It would be a completely different show that is for sure. I highly doubt we would have seen a Christian push or would have Orton on Smackdown. I think most likely we would see either Alberto Del Rio feuding with Edge for the WHC or Sheamus still as a heel feuding with Edge for the WHC.

Edge on Smackdown to me was like Cena on Raw. It was just the brand they belong on. Since 2007 Edge has made Smackdown better and always made it interesting. Edge was and is in my top 5 of all time so seeing him go was hard. I feel the WWE was hurting for a while after his retirement. However they have done an almost miracle job of recovering. Orton takes Edge's place, Christian gets pushed and all the Edgeheads now have something to believe in again. Seeing Christian win the WHC may not have happened if Edge was still around so there have been some pros with his departure (as awful as thats sounds). Edge gone still hurts but the WWE is working hard to fix that.

Then if Edge had stayed I see things going along a similar path, but not to this extent. Christian with out a doubt was about to get main event level treatment against Edge but he may have never won the title and no way have done it twice. Sheamus and Edge would have gotten a couple of matches I'm sure. Orton would have stayed on Raw and maybe he'd have feud with Del Rio. Punk may not have gotten the push he's gotten now with Orton around. This is all speculation but it's definitely a possibility.

Christian probably would've never become a World Champion

Probably not. Edge passed the torch to him and likely called in a favor to get Christian his push.

Mark Henry wouldn't be seein such a push

Yes he would. Edge could have faced him as a face.

Orton would still be on RAW

What makes you say that? Edge and Orton could both have been top guys on Smackdown. Rated-RKO could have come back and had a JeriShow type run at the top together. Then an epic feud could follow.

Seamus would probably still be a heel

Who the heck is Seamus? lol.... Sheamus could still have had his face turn. Do recall that Edge fluctuated back and forth a few times between face and heel especially in his last run.

If Edge were still able to compete, what do you think would be happening on Smackdown?

I do feel a bit of an effect due to Edge's absense. However it is not as big of a deal now than it was at the begining of the summer because Christian has successfully taken Edge's place. If Edge was still there then everything that's going on would have been the same only with Edge in Christian's spot and Christian might be IC champion or in the upper midcard losing to main eventers.
