The Daniel Tosh Thread

Nate DaMac

Fuck erbody but me
I know it seems a bit odd to be making a thread based on just one Stand Up comedian, but since he has a popular show and I wanted to discuss his Stand Up as well, I figured it might be warranted. I've just always been curious as to who else on here is a fan of his work.

I find myself falling in love with this man more and more every time that I see him. His first DVD and special, "Completely Serious" was hysterical and is one of the few stand up specials I could watch over and over again. If you have only seen the Comedy Central edit of it, you're robbing yourself of a great bit of comedy as they cut out a lot of good shit.

The newer special, "Happy Thoughts" that just premiered a little over a week ago somehow managed to top his first one and again, you have to get the full thing. He seems to recognize his newly acquired celebrity status and he milks it perfectly. He comes off as such an arrogant prick and no one in comedy does it better.

He has said something that I have always said when it comes to offensive jokes. "I'm not sexist or racist, by I do find sexist and racist jokes funny." I've always held this belief. Maybe just because it makes me feel better about myself for saying despicable things, I don't know. But it seems to hold water. At any rate, he usually starts his special apologizing if he offends anyone. "I understand that you have your line of decency. I cross my own sometimes, it's how I know it's still there."

Now his show, Tosh.0, has proven to be a big hit. In the middle of it's 3rd season now, it is consistently one of Comedy Central's highest rated shows as well as being on the highest rated shows on cable Tuesday nights. If you don't know what it is, it's basically done in the style of The Soup, but he finds videos off of the internet to make fun of/critique, etc.

The show has become must see TV for me as I have seen every episode except for the one that came on tonight. I was at the Smackdown! tapings so I missed it, but I'll catch it later. There's no kind of plot or anything, but the rapid fire style in which the jokes comes always has me cracking up.

Ok, so do you love Daniel Tosh as much as I do? Do you hate him? Do you have a sense of humor? Whatever the case, keep it in here!!

I love his show but i always think its kinda funny that his and the Jeff Dunham show appeared on the same night and his is still going strong while Jeff got canceled after the first season. Being an old school wrestling fan i personally loved when he had Slaughter, KoKo, and the Million dollar man and told the WORLD WILDLIFE FOUNDATION TO SUCK IT, IT WILL ALWAYS BE THE WWF TO ME. Another one of the stuff he did that i found funny was the Tommy Lee girl drum set and he was one of the girls. Daniel Tosh is one of the show on Comedy Central that could be bigger than South Park if it continues and his Stand-Up specials are always funny there are only 3 men i can watch there specials over and over thats Craig Ferguson, Eddie Griffen, and of course Daniel Tosh.

,Honestly I love Daniel, but I also think his last two shows joke wise were duds. I didn't really laugh, and the shock value that he once had is gone for me. I've said it about a lot of comics who use race or other "taboo" subjects as a base for their brand of comedy that they need to branch out into the large world of comedy, or face becoming irrelevant.

On the other hand, his segments such as breakdown, viewer video of the week, and web redemption are funny as shit. I say in his last two shows to me the jokes were kind of bland and not hitting it for me. But his segments always hit the funny bone for me.

Also to the previous poster, the reason I believe that Jeff Dunhams show got the can was this. You can only do the same things so many times. While his standup with the dummy is funny, it was all just a re-run of his standup shows.

I don't really like his stand ups but his show is pretty funny. Its like an extreme Americas Funniest Home Videos with an uncensored Bob Saget. I agree about the shock value thing, yeah alot of comedians use stuff like that but to me Daniel Tosh is in the Mencia category of, "well I'm not that funny, so I'll say some offensive shit so people will notice me" where a guy like Dave Chappelle can talk about anything and be funny as shit, he doesn't have to rely on shock value. About Jeff Dunham, I couldn't believe they gave him a show, my girlfriend drug me to one of his shows and I was like a little kid who had to go shopping with his mom, the whole time I'm thinking damn whats so funny about a grown ass man playing with dolls, I can do alot of funny voices too but I don't think I have any business being a comedian.

I tune in every week to Tosh.O. I usually laugh from beginning to end and can't get enough of his humor.

I love that he makes racist jokes and pushes the line...there should be no limits to comedy.

I can't wait for some new episodes! :)

I think you're way off here. If you want someone who depends solely on shock value for comedy, look at Lisa Lampanelli. There is absolutely no substance to her act as she just relies on jokes about her fucking black guys and making fun of other races.

You couldn't be more wrong about Tosh. He relies on a lot more than shock value, like his creativity and wit. He comes up with jokes that no one else had thought of to the point where he makes something that is so right there in your face funny and conveys it better than just about anyone.

Dave Chappelle does rule all though. However, he uses a lot more shock value than you're alluding to. Chappelle's Show was a success almost solely due to shock value.

The reason Dave Chappelle comes of as "fuuny as shit" when talking about anything is because of how stupid he sounds that makes people laugh.

i hated him at first then i sat and watched tosh.O now i think he is Awesome. He has a diffrent comedy style that is very fresh.
