The "Current" King Of Pop?

Ferbian

Has Returned.
Michael Jackson have been gone for a good while now. And obviously he will always be considered the king of pop. He will always be one of the biggest musicians to ever live, and he will always be a tough act to follow.

However, as time moves on. There's always gonna come a "replacement" - The hierarchy must live on if you will. And that means that while we may not need a new king of pop, there is definitely one out there that could be considered the current king of pop.

The question though is - Who exactly has the career that could warrant him to be considered the king of pop? A guy that have been in the business long enough to be considered a mainstay, and someone who has had general success in more or less everything he touched - Much like Michael Jackson.

So, my question to you is - Who is the current king of pop?

My personal nomination would have to be this guy:

Not only did his FutureSex/LoveSounds album have a good amount of success, and proved a lot of top 10 hit list singles. But he has also sold millions of albums throughout his career, won numerous grammys and other awards. He has been featured in loads of hit singles as a guest artist with the likes of T.I, Timberland, Nelly Furtado, Madonna and others ever since he really hit the top of the crop in the pop industry with the above mentioned album.

But not only that, no his first solo album also had a good amount of success. Which only credits more to the fact that he should indeed be considered the current king of pop.

However, that's just my opinion. What's yours?

The current "King of Pop" or Queen of pop I should say, would have to go to Lady Gaga. As much as it pains me to say this, no one, and I mean no one is leaving as big of a mark as Lady Gaga is on the music industry. You say expirience is a key factor in determining the next king of pop but Gaga shows no signs of being a rookie. Everything she touch turns to pure gold. She has won two Grammys already and around 80 other awards with 200 nominations. Her music is heard on whatever radio station you tune into. her first album "The Fame" sold over 14 million albums world wide which is very impressive for a debut album. Her clothing and style resemble Michael Jackson and Madona. I love Michael Jackson and I may not care for Lady Gaga but she's reigning supreme over all pop music.

Lady Gaga has taken over the mantle of "wierdo musician who we dont really understand, but is still fucking ace" genre. The Black Eyed Peas are also a close frontrunner.

As much as I hate top say it, I have to agree with Hamburglar. Lady Gaga has made her mark on the music industry, like Jackson did in his time. She has also, like Jackson, has taken the role of weirdest musician of their time. Gaga has earned the role of Queen of Pop.

Yeah right now it has to be Gaga. Everything she does, says, wears or releases gets in the news. The public cannot get enough of her right now, and she is playing on this popularity/notoriety by dressing more and more weirdly, to continue to get noticed.

The thing is, she makes music that I can listen to and not be pissed off by, unlike others like The Black Eyed Peas...who fucking suck.

The other nomination I would have for Queen of Pop is Beyonce, she has had unbelievable success as a solo artist, plus all her millions of sales in Destiny's Child. Yeah, she may have been off the radar for a year or so, but as soon as she releases her next CD, she will be back on top with more guaranteed number one hits

Sadly, I don't think anyone today is anywhere near what Jackson was when he got that moniker.

I think Timberlake would have it hands down if he hadn't started focusing more on acting.

Lady Gaga is tops right now and I do like her, but I'd wait a few albums before crowning her queen of anything.

I think Mika could also reach that spot, as he's certainly talented enough to, but for some reason he just hasn't caught on in any big way.

How dare you people? Lady Gaga? Justin Timberlake? Really?

The current King of Pop and the closest thing to Michael Jackson in my estimation is Usher!!! Usher is a huge music superstar and his albums continue to top the charts to this day. His performances are becoming legendary. He is the closest thing that we have to a Michael Jackson when it comes to stage presence and performances. Usher will reign for a long time to come.

BTW, when he turns about 22, this conversation will be about Justin Beiber. Tell me I'm wrong.

akon. him and MJ did a duet called "hold my hand" i would get it from youtube but dont know how to do none of that. any ways during an interview akon says he grew up listening to MJ and wants nothing more than to be a protoge to him.

Akon? Lmao. No fucking way. Akon is good for nothing but guest features and singing on hooks. Most of his songs are god awful and nothing he's done in his career is worthy of a title like that. Just because he did a song with MJ doesn't mean he's the King of Pop. Usher has done his thing, but lately his career is filled with nothing but club bangers. Lady Gaga is a definite front runner for the title, but Justin Bieber is slowly climbing up there. Hate him all you want, the little dude has some pipes. He has talent. People are just so stuck on hating what's popular.

He's got a point ya know. Mainstream makes you hate what you don't think isn't right. How often does someone have talent and dedication to want to be where he is right now? Sure everyone my hate his progress how he gets fans and album deals but I would like to be there someday. I sort of envy the kid. Theres always fads your going to dislike. Remember Cyrus? Jonas Brothers? See how fast that works?

As much as I hate to say it, I agree with those saying Bieber will assume this mantle within the next few years. My complaint with him at this point is his lack of mature (I guess you could say deep or emotional, but you get the idea) songs. I'm comparing Bieber's music right now to the bright tunes of Michael's time in the Jackson 5. I know Michael was keen on having upbeat music, whether dancing songs or just plain positive, but he also had a somber, emotionally-charged side to his music. This appeared in songs about love and the loss of it, society and its need to change, or looking at the "Man in the Mirror" and changing oneself. Bieber is young, and I think he will improve and mature with time, but I can't bring myself to call him the "Current" King of Pop without a multi-faceted musical attitude and selection.

And to whoever said Usher, I agree with the poster who said he's been creating nothing but club-bangers lately. I agreed with him holding this title until he released "Here I Stand." After that, I need to see a "Confessions"-type release in order to put him back in that high esteem.

I say it will always be Micheal Jackson, he has way too many hits to lose the title. I think he is the true King of Pop.
