The concept of Survivor Series

KKKKwe

Occasional Pre-Show
So I was thinking, the concept of survivor series has been ever since 1987 the traditional team elimination match consisting of 8 or 10 superstars - 4 on 4 or 5 on 5. In recent years the tradition has become, maybe its because of the lack of promotion leading up towards this event, but heres what I am trying to get at. Why does Survivor Series have to solely be about the 4 on 4 or 5 on 5 tram match. The whole concept is about eliminations and having a sole survivor(s). So why not use this ppv for variety, and have other elimination type matches. Have matches like four way elimination matches for the tag team titles or any other title for that matter because the point is to have eliminations and a sole survivor. Even battle royals should be used for this event, maybe they can put the andre the battle royal match here and have the winner automatically challenge for a mid card title or maybe possible be the one to face undertaker at mania. This is just a thought i had seeing as survivor series isn't as special as it used to be and is losing its thunders as a Big 4.

What do u guys think? Your responses are appreciated.

Survivor Series 2002 was similar to that, they had all "elimination" style matches, but no standard 5 vs. 5 matches. The closest they came was a 6-Man Elimination Tag Tables Match. I've said for years that all of the Big Four need to be made more special than they are (excluding WrestleMania obviously). The rest of the Big Four needs to be slowly brought up to WrestleMania's level. With the proper build, I think a SummerSlam or a Survivor Series could easily fill a baseball field or a medium-sized football stadium.

I believe it's the fact that Survivor Series started as a card filled with only Traditional Elimination Tag Team matches. If they only had one as the Main Event in 1987, we wouldn't even think about having a card full of the same matches, unless it was a tournament.

I could see this being a great idea for the Survivor Series.

7-on-7 Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team match
7 Team WWE World Tag Team Championship Turmoil Title match
United States Championship Triple Threat Elimination Title match
Intercontinental Championship Fatal Four Way Elimination Tite match
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Scramble Title match
5-on-5 Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team match

That should be enough for a 3 hour Pay Per View.

They should have
Traditional 5 on 5 Elimination Match
Fatal 4 Way for Intercontinental Match
Triple Threat for US title match
A Diva Championship match & A WWE WHC match

For the first match, I meant to say Divas 7-on-7 Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team match

I really liked the concept of the 90 Survivor Series with the grand finale match. I would return to that but have a "random" draw instead of all faces v heels at the end. And above all else give some sort of incentive to all surviving members of the grand finale to give the match more meaning.

I don't the card necessarily has to be 4-6 man teams facing each other, although I definitely think there should be a couple of matches like that at every Survivor Series. However, I do agree with the OP in that there can be other matches with a "Survival" aspect to them, be it Championship Scramble matches or elimination triple threat/fatal 4 way matches etc. Maybe even an Elimination Chamber match?? Even if there isn't a title on the line in a match, SOMETHING could be up for grabs as an incentive- such as a number 1 contenders spot or £££ in a briefcase etc.

I agree with Aquaman that more needs to be made of the Survivor Series as an "event", as just like other WWE PPVs, it's lost it's importance as it feels like all WWE really cares about is WrestleMania and can't be bothered focusing much on the other PPVs.

For this years Survivor Series, I'd love to see The Wyatts v Undertaker/Kane/2 others inside the Elimination Chamber, with 'Taker being the sole survivor.

I enjoyed the early year concept of survivor series where they would do an all elimination ppv, in recent years they have only bothered to do one elimination match and that's just lazy booking.

I would spice things up and have different styles of elimination in each match just like King Patrick suggested, my elimination style would go somewhere along the lines of:

1) top 4 tag teams fight for the tag titles in a 4 corner elimination match OR tag team turmoil.
2) Six pack challenge match for the diva's title OR have a 10 diva's elimination match.
3) fatal 4 way OR triple threat elimination match for either the IC or US title.
4) 1 maybe 2 8 man tag team matches for the midcarders/jobbers.
5) The elimination chamber should be showcased at this event with the top 6 guys going at it because it fits the elimination gimmick OR have the top 10 guys go at it in a 10 man tag team elimination match.

That's what I feel should be done to get the audiences attention and try to bring back some decent booking.

Since the Elimination Chamber debuted at Survivor Series 2002, I was thinking about making my WWE World Heavyweight Championship Title match an Elimination Chamber match instead of a Championship Scramble match, but I think having the Elimination Chamber at Survivor Series would take away from the Traditional Survivor Series Elevation Tag team match. Besides, we have an Elimination Chamber Pay Per View.

This would be a good way of getting rid of the PPVs named after a gimmick match. I really don't like the fact we know that Hell in a Cell matches and Elimination Chamber matches are shoehorned into rivalries just because that's the next PPV. It just feels forced.

I didn't mean that every Survivor Series would have an Elimination Chamber match, it was just a suggestion that that is an option they could use sometimes, as a variant on the "Survival" theme. They could also have elimination HIAC matches, table matches....anything really, just vary it up.

Yeah, I think this a good idea. Unlike others, I never really dug the old Survivor Series shows where they focused mainly on the main event and just threw the other teams together almost randomly at times. Also didn't really enjoy watching the same match all night but at least it had a fun concept that many people enjoyed. If they were to modernize the concept and make every match at Survivor Series an elimination match, whether it be a triple threat, fatal four way, scramble, etc. I think this would make a lot of sense and give SS some meaning to it again.

Of course there would have to be one or two singles matches but the rest of the card being elimination style would help definitely raise my excitement at least. I also love elimination style matches so maybe I'm biased. It's a good idea though.
