The Best...Video Game Character

3462w0k.jpg

Naked Snake/Big Boss. I like to call him "The Darth Vader of video games" as he follows a similar path (but is actually likeable as a good guy, unlike Hayden Christensen). The original "Snake" is usually at the center of some of the most entertaining stories in the history of video games, whether he is get or alive. His level of moral complexity makes him more deep and compelling than any other character, and few characters get to display the full array of emotions that he has. And he wears an eye-patch and smokes cigars, which ups his cool factor considerably.

Lara Croft tops my list. Why, cause her games kick ass and watching her jump around in short shorts never gets old.

Ezio Auditore.
Assasains creed is one of the few games which i bothered to finish completely due to the fact that Ezio was an amazing character. I love the storyline of brotherhood (especially the end sequence) and i really can't wait for Revelations to come out.

I'm gonna go with Kratos on this one. If you played the GOW series you'd know just how badass he is. Playing a nice hero doesn't do it for me sometimes. But Kratos' character is by no means nice. He's a hero.. But he's the most uncaring, vicious, and baddest hero you'll ever play as.

I really want to say Commander Shepard just because I'm a Mass Effect mark but that character can vary and I'm not even thinking of the actual Shepard all over the game posters, I'm thinking of my created Shepard so I suppose that doesn't really count. My pick instead is...

John Marston

JWGunslinger has already covered his background so I'll be brief.

John Marston isn't perfect and he knows it. He doesn't want to be perfect, what does he want? Normality, peace, to just raise his family without the trouble of his past. His past is chequered, and it catches up with him. So he tries to redeem himself by eliminating the threats of his past while they affect others like innocents. He hasn't got a choice but to do so, in order to evade the Law, retain his family and obtain that normality and that peace. To an extent however, he'd like to taste some revenge against his former gang for what they did to him, and that brings me to one of the reasons John Marston is my second favourite game character, he isn't perfect, he's flawed and he's only a man but he's determined to get what he needs and that's just simple peace for his family.

Another thing about him is that he doesn't pretend he can save everyone an stop all of the baddies, he knows that stopping his former gang would stop them terrorizing innocents but does that matter during a time like the Wild West? Somewhere along the way people will die and Marston can't stop that, but he can protect his family, and he tries.

When reaching the apex of redemption, he falls and becomes a victim of deception.

Have to go with Master Chief here. Wasn't a huge gamer before I played Halo 3 but then I was hooked. The story made me want to know more and there's so much fiction for Halo you can really invest yourself in the universe.

For me it is Solid Snake. He is all around bad ass. You just can't hate his character ever and he displays every emotion a human can. He is all around badass and hell he even smokes. lol. Snake takes this one with Laura Croft coming in number 2.

This isn't even fair, LOL. There are so many video game characters I absolutely love it's ridiculous. I could make a list as long as the Nile. Let me try to narrow it down to a few of the top guys I really hold favor to.

Would anyone guess I am a Mario fan???

Two of my favorite video game characters of all time are Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama from the Tekken franchise. Then I have also always been a big fan of the Soul Caliber franchise as well and favored the characters of Mitsurugi, Cervantes, Kilik, and Hwang. I always thought Dante from DMC was cool, as well as Kratos, Sephiroth, and then you could throw in a whole slew of characters from both Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter through the years as well.

I would say Mario due to being part of gaming's greatest franchise and the most recognizable video game character ever, but the lack of characterization and plot in the series keeps him from being a serious choice for me.

Instead, I think I'll take Solid Snake of MGS. The man has had to deal with being a manufactured war machine by virtue of being the "perfect" clone of Big Boss, which would screw with anyone's identity, has committed atrocities that he knows are wrong, and goes through accelerated aging just when he thinks he might get some time to himself. Snake is a man that seems to believe that he is unworthy of accolades and perhaps even life because of what he's done, but has managed to stay virtuous throughout. Also, he's a one man army and a total badass. That puts him over the top for me.

When it came down to choosing my favourite video game character the name that instantly sprung to mind was Dante from Devil may cry.

Under the alias Tony Redgrave, Dante works as a mercenary who specialises in demon slaying. Half demon half human, his father was the legendary demon Sparda who sided with the humans. When Dante was a child his mother was killed by demons which led to his commitment to hunting demons in pursuit of those that killed his mother.

He uses his Fathers sword "The Force Edge" and a pair of handguns "Ebony and Ivory". He possesses great speed and strength as well as a very laid back attitude, often taunting enemies before he fights them.

He often says the phrase "Devils never cry" implying that no matter how much of a demon he may prove to be, his ability to cry makes his human side precious to him.

I guess what made me pick him was the fact that i enjoy playing as Dante in the Devil may cry series. He displays a very laid back approach when dealing with enemies and often spouts one liners as a way of taunting them. But he also shows a human side which he holds very dear. You get to see his character progress and mature throughout the series. In devil may cry 3 we see a young Dante that seems more interested in having a good time rather then slaying demons whereas in Devil may cry 2 his character is older and much colder/serious mainly due to him maturing as a person and dealing with the loss of those that are important to him.

The face of The Uncharted Series...Nathan Drake.

The adventurer, treasure seeker, risk taker, and all around legit gunfighter.

I never thought I would get into The Uncharted Series period, but playing all the games in the series. Wow, how can I not choose him? He goes through a lot of stuff, survives steroid driven gorillas and dudes with flaming heads, and still gets the girl in the head. If a character other than Drake led the Uncharted Series, I probably wouldn't play because HE makes that game.

Drake is the epitome of Swag and Charisma. I literally think some people would like to have the life Drake had. Nonstop action, danger, and peril, and still ends up getting the girl when it's all said and done.

I know it sounds corny, but I can't really put into better words than that. His character is something special. He's cocky and cool, and knows how to get the job done. He reminds me of Michael Weston in Burn Notice, except Drake's Dangers are a little more life threatening.
