The Best Rivalry Of The Last Decade

Pay Per Ghost

What they f*ck happened in the thread section here
Let's say from Mania 20 to Mania 30; it has to be CM Punk Vs John Cena. I mean the buzz around this got started around December 2010 culminating to Punk attacking Cena as a commentator hence becoming the leader of Nexus. Then eventually and spledidly came MiTB which was just electric. Adjectives are still being laced with that shit. And even after that whenever these two faced off or where in the same frame it felt a top, exciting segment.

Now I did rack my brain for this one, and I dunno if any other rivalry comes close to this in the time frame aforementioned. Some might say Edge/Cena or Orton/Hunter or Taker/Shawn but there was something ethereal about Punk and Cena that I saw only before during the Shawn and Bret feud. Do these two really not like each other? Who knows, could all be a fanciful work but regardless, these two brought their A Game every time they squared off.

This is the part where I tell you to tell me yours but go on, beat that.

Cena-Punk was exciting, as Punk was trying to establish himself as the #1 Guy and Cena was clearly that guy, it had a vide like the early Sting-Flair battles.

The best rivalry, feud of the last 10 years was Cena-Edge - More high profile matches than Cena-Punk, and one of the great contrasts in character of any main event feud you could hope to see. Edge was a great heel during his Rated R SuperStar run (WWE really missed him now, Id say next to the legends like Taker, HBK, & Flair who all retired Edge is the one super star the company really missed and hasn't replaced). His brash, over confident, disrespectful attitude, blatantly cheating, often a coward, viscious in his beat downs and attacks, and the clearly adult nature of his "relationship" with Lita, Edge was the perfect antithesis to Cena, the hard working, straight edge, trustworthy good guy. These guys were HBK-Hart, Flair-Dusty Rhodes, and Savage-Hogan for the new generation.

Also, the matches were always intense, these two had electricity in the ring, a real charisma against each other, and the matches themselves, while not exactly Flair-Steamboat or Hart-HBK, were very exciting and entertaining. Cena always delivers in big matches and Edge did a great job straddling the line between cowardly heel and dangerous, almost psychotic villain, an extremely talented villain, thus making him more dangerous.

Both men benefited from the run, Cena won the feud in the end, which of course helped him, and gave him some serious cred as Edge was the most dangerous opponent he had faced. Likewise Edge tortured Cena, won his share of matches, and always had a great showing in every encounter, not too mention all the promos, some of them among his best work. Edge clearly was elevated into the Top Tier as a legitimate main event star, not a mid carder getting a nice push. This was Edge's best feud in his Rated R run, Cena's best feud, and the best feud of the last ten years.

I'd have to agree with the Cena/Edge rivalry being the best we've seen in a long time. Love Edge and so sorry he had to retire, but health comes first. He was one of those that is able to get a good match out of anyone he faces.

I think however one of the best we're ever going to see is beginning to happen now, Rollins/Ambrose, and throw Reigns in there for good measure.

These guys fought together for two years, a band of brothers so to speak. They had each other's backs and to tell you the truth I can't remember a bad Shield match. Then Rollins turned heel, joined the Authority and stabbed the other two in the back. There is so many ways this could play out and for a long stretch of time as well. Not only does this feud involve the MITB suitcase, with Ambrose ************ Rollins attempts to cash in, it could also involve the WWE Championship itself if and when Reigns wins it.

I'm personally waiting to see what happens when Ambrose does finally get his hands on Rollins. Ambrose is going to get the crap beat out of him, but I think he'll prevail in the end. It won't be over after one match, and would love to see Reigns come out and help Ambrose if the Authority tries to interfere. I think this is going to be epic

I would have to say Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H & The Authority. It's still fresh on everyone's minds, I'm not going through the whole buildup to the WM payoff.

CM Punk vs. Cena was great, it was Punk's launch and they had some great matches, but honestly it felt more like it was Punk vs. the office. Even during Punk's "pipebomb", he says "I don't hate you John, in fact, I like you more than a lot of the guys backstage, I hate this idea that you're the best".

The level of "hate" between the two guys wasn't there for me to say it was the best feud.

Cena vs. Edge gets my honorable mention, these were two characters who really hated each other and weren't just fighting to "be the champion"

I love this topic xD I was thinking about this yesterday when I rewatched the pipebomb :P I do agree Cena v. Punk was good, but again it didn't seem like there was a legitimate beef between the two of them.

Edge Cena was definitely a huge feud, I remember watching and really not feeling confident predicting an outcome, how could you be? Edge would do anything it took to win, Cena was...Cena xD

Ambrose and Rollins should be good, maybe even better than Cena Edge if booked correctly, but we don't know yet so I'll discount that one.

Sadly your 10 years cuts off my personal favorite feud between Triple H and HBK xD it was the first feud for me that felt real, the booking was great.

I can't think of a feud not mentioned that gets close to that level, I do think the Edge Matt Hardy feud was pretty good. But if I had to pick one it'd be Jeff Hardy versus CM Punk, I just remember watching Smackdown every week to see the next part! :)

There hasn't really been anything that has appealed to be since maybe around 2006 or 2007. That being said, I would have to go with either Triple H/Randy Orton in 2004 or Edge/Cena in 2006. Edge is my favorite of all time but it's really hard to choose. I could go either way with these two. It would really depend on the day you ask me.

Y2J VS HBK anyone? lol. It was one of the best things to happen in recent times.

Not sure if theirs a definite "best feud" of the decade but here are some feuds that come to mind on that topic...

- Y2J VS HBK

- Cena VS Edge

- Rey VS Eddie

- Cena VS Punk

- Batisita VS The Undertaker

- Punk VS Hardy

That's about all the feuds I can think of from the top of my head. Personally, I think the Cena VS Orton feud was a bit overrated but that's just me.

I agee with your top 3 choices maybe adding in Triple H vs Randy Orton and Edge vs Matt Hardy somewhere in there too and you have the top 5 greatest rivalries in the last decade. The last 3 was more of a long feud then a heated rivalry. Y2J vs Michaels, Mysterio vs Guerrero, and Cena vs Edge were all personal and very intense.
I would love to have another rivalry as great as any of these past rivalries. With any of the current talent on the roster, because there's so much potential.

For me, it's Punk/Cena. They had great chemistry together, in the ring and on the microphone. Triple H/Orton is a pretty overrated rivalry. Yeah, the buildup to their matches were great for the most part, but their matches were disappointing. These two, despite being great workers, just didn't gel well in the ring together. The only truly great one-on-one match they had was their LMS match at No Mercy 2007. I was sick to death of this feud when it ended in 2009. Cena/Orton would have been remembered as one of the greatest rivalries in the history of the company had it ended in 2009 (even though people were getting sick of this feud by then), but it has gone on for FAR too long with so many Championship matches to even count. Orton/Christian was a great feud. Orton and Christian had great chemistry in the ring. They absolutely tore it up. I still think that Christian is still Randy Orton's best opponent when it comes to in-ring performances.

I have to go Y2J/HBK and Y2J/Punk. But I think that we all know the common denominator here...Jericho.

Jericho in both of those feuds was an almost cringeworthy bad person. Never getting negative heat, but instead cementing himself as one of the greatest bad people ever.

Cena/Punk was incredible, too, but then again, Cena/Edge was brilliant. The wasted booking of 2003-2010 really makes me sad when you think about the amount of talent the WWE had and wasted in botch bloodfests and spotfests instead of current angles that are much more palatable.

There have been some great feuds in the last decade. The stand-outs are probably HBK/Jericho, Edge/Taker, Cena/Orton, Cena/Edge, Bryan/Authority and finally Punk/Cena.

My personal favourite has to be Punk vs Cena. In terms of in-ring work these two had ridiculous chemistry. They had fantastic matches every time they stepped into the ring with MITB 2011 being one of my all-time favourite matches. The promos were also of the highest quality. Cena and Punk are both specialists on the microphone and that shone through. Each segment was entertaining and, overall, this feud was the making of Punk.

While Cena V Punk is my favourite, I'm not sure it's the best. That honour probably goes to HBK v Jericho. Their feud had a better story and involved some very good matches. Jericho's promo's from that time period are absolute gold and these two had a enthralling, high quality rivalry that is difficult to look beyond.

For me personally, i'm going to have to say either Cena/Punk or Cena Edge.
Cena/Punk had a much bigger feel to it and they had some amazing promo's and matches. but the Cena/Edge feud made Edge into becoming one of the greatest ever. WWE still haven't been able to replace him. They had a variety of matches whereas Cena/Punk had a couple of one on ones and a triple threat.

I can't decide the two. but there have been many more feuds that i have enjoyed over the decade. i'm not going to comment on Y2J/HBK 2 because i stopped watching wrestling at the time and i wouldn't be able to give a fair comment on it although the matches were amazing and the feud seemed like one of the best. i would also say Orton/Taker 2005, Edge/Taker, Eddie/Angle and Eddie/Mysterio. And although Eddie was buried by Mysterio, he had his last great match against him at Summerslam 2005.

The best rivalry of the past decade was Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho, hands down. A runner-up would be Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker, which had a really slow-burn since they started feuding at Royal Rumble 2007 and No Way Out 2007, but didn't touch each other again until WrestleMania 25's build-up.

Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk is also up there. CM Punk pulled all the weight in terms of making it interesting with his promos and his heel turn, but without Jeff's insane popularity at the time, it wouldn't have meant so much. It was great.

Another runner-up would be John Cena vs. Edge. I could have seen them feud twice a year for a long time. Edge could have been the Luthor to Cena's Superman forever. They just had amazing chemistry.

You know what, I'm going to rank the first 20 that come to mind. Here we go:

1. Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels

2. The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels

3. Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk

4. John Cena vs. Edge

5. Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H & Randy Orton

6. Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk

7. Christian vs. Randy Orton

8. Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho

9. John Cena vs. CM Punk

10. Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz

11. Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy

12. The Undertaker vs. CM Punk

13. D-Generation X vs. Jeri-Show

14. CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan

15. ECW Originals vs. The New Breed

16. Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton

17. Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton

18. Daniel Bryan vs. The Big Show vs. Mark Henry

19. John Morrison vs. The Miz

20. John Morrison vs. Sheamus

21. CM Punk vs. John Morrison

22. John Cena vs. Batista

23. Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian

24. The Undertaker vs. Kane

25. John Cena vs. The Nexus

Okay, I did 25. But I'm a big fan of CM Punk vs. John Morrison from ECW, and I feel like I'm the only one. Punk even said on his documentary DVD that he hated the feud and the matches sucked. I beg to differ, it really got me glued to ECW at a time when the Benoit scandal should have made me stop watching.

Edge/Cena was like Craig Biggio. Lots of quality quantity, but it doesn't really pop to me. It's "very good" or even "great" but when people say "list moments that made you go "ooooo"", that feud isn't on that list.

Punk/Cena is what it is for me. Nothing from Edge/Cena touches any of the Cena/Punk matches. Punk/Cena at MITB is a top 10 WWE match ever. Their Raw match from a few January's ago is, in my opinion, the greatest Raw match ever.

Plus it transcends wrestling. It's social status and personality differences. The rebel vs the company man. Just great on every level. I guess to end with another baseball analogy, Cena/Punk is like Sandy Koufax. Not very long, but incredible while it lasted.

Cena- Punk was Terrific.! But I would go with;

1. Y2J - HBK

This was a great Promo battle between the two.. It definitely showed the ranges of both the wrestlers. You can find some of the best promos of Y2J's career in this feud.

2. Eddie vs Mysterio (for Dominic)

This was as personal as it gets. Most of the marks go to the final match between the 2 at Summerslam 2005. The feud itself was a terrific one which cemented Eddie as a great heel. Overall a great feud.

Easily Y2J vs HBk...imo this is one of the best feuds of all time. Rey vs Eddie was really good as well.
