The best in the world is...

Cereal Killer

Boy Better Know
Overtime many wrestling greats have claimed to be the best. Some say Hogan but he is not all that in-ring wise, some might say HBK but his mic skills are not perfect etc. The list goes on. But who is actually the best wrestler of all-time with no weaknesses. Also, what would you base this on; I base it on in ring ability, mic skills, personality, charisma (whatever it is, ppl give different definitions, give yours if you mention this attribute), and there are probably more I have not mentioned. List all of your attributes and who has it all with no weakness. I may challenge your opinion.:suspic:

At the moment, I say probably CM Punk.

In ring mastery

Virtuoso on the mike.

Good enough to make even the complete bullshit he's been given in both WWE and TNA not hinder his progress?

Kurt Angle and there's never been a pure all rounder like him in wrestling before. He might never be the draw of a Hogan or Rock but, as the complete package, he has everyone beat, at least IMO.

Any particular reason you say Punk? His mike work has become very clichéd and generic face stuff and, let's face it, the match with DB the other month, he's hardly stolen the show. One of WWE's best, yeah, but best in the world?

Angle is the best in ring star ever but he isn't the best promo guy. I gotta give it to Punk because he is the complete and total package. I have never seen a horrible match from him. And his promos, while watered down from what they were, are still better than anyone in WWE and TNA. He has charisma and tells a story in and out of the ring.

It's legitimately impossible to accurately determine who the "best in the world" is. With like everything, from music to sport, it's too debatable and therefore can't be answered.

CM Punk is a very good wrestler, but he isn't the best wrestler on the WWE roster, Daniel Bryan is, and that doesn't need verification. I've followed Punk since his IWA:MS days and despite him being a very good wrestler, he also is prone to botches and such, some even argue and they have a point, that Punk doesn't connect with the Macho Man Elbow Drop very well, to the point that even he has said previously on Twitter that he needs to work it out, but that it's just a tribute to one of his favorite performers.

On a microphone, again, that is also debatable. Kevin Steen is better on the stick than CM Punk, I'd even say Bully Ray is better on the stick than CM Punk. Punk is very, very good, definitely one of the best and most probably the best currently in the WWE, but just because he says it and places it on the back of a t-shirt doesn't verify it as truth. It is his gimmick which is very understandable, and as he has stated in interviews and such, it is simply his opinion, people can agree or disagree he for one doesn't care, much like how Bret Hart was labeled, "The Best There Is, There Was and There Ever Will Be," but even Bret now states that it was an outlandish label to work under, but that seeing as people supported it, he stuck with it.

There are great wrestlers with great microphone skills in Japan and Mexico, so you have to take them into account. Hiroshai Tanashai has rights to the label, Prince Devitt could take rights to the label, Ryusuke Taguchi, Kota Ibushi, Davey Richards, La Sombra; all of them could take claim to the term "Best In The World," it is impossible for any one person to accurately assess who the true "Best In The World" is. In Punk's case, it is simply a gimmick label to place on the back of a t-shirt, whether he truly believes it or not is irrelevant, he knows himself that he could be the best in the WWE, but I could list of several names who are just as good if not better than him in other regions of the world.

Saga is right ... it definitely is impossible to label The Best in The World as fact ... but we can definitely have our thoughts on it.

Clearly ... and without much argument ... the top draw in the world right now is John Cena ... so you could easily make the argument that he is the best in the world. It is a fake sport afterall that is all about making money ... and he brings in the most (on a regular basis at least).

By the ring work, mic skills, entertainment factor, etc. Then you get a much bigger debate.

I think right now I go with Daniel Bryan. Which took me a few minutes to figure out. I like Hiroshi Tanahashi a lot. I like Davey Richards a lot. I like CM Punk a lot. And I have mentioned the logical argument for John Cena.

But in the end ... right now ... I think Daniel Bryan is the most interesting and most entertaining guy in the world. He somehow is outshining CM Punk on a regular basis. He has become HUGELY over while keeping his heel edginess. His ring work is spectacular at times and always at least good.

I could change my mind in the next couple of weeks, but for right now I have Daniel Bryan rated No. 1.

Depending on how we are judging this their could be a lot of different answers. Like a poster above said an argument could be made for Cena given he is the top draw. My answer however is Daniel Bryan. Who would have thought he could have done this much when he first cashed in the MITB briefcase. He is honestly the best all around in the ring now, and he can really get the crowd going while keeping his heel tendencies. I put him slightly ahead of Punk just because he has increased his momentum even after losing in 18 seconds at mania.

It really is difficult to name one guy as The Best in the World. Everybody has on opinion on why this guy is the best in the world, why that guy is the best in the world. Your gonna have a bunch of different guys. But, my pick is Daniel Bryan as a couple posters above me said. He tore the house down a couple of times on both Raw and SmackDown, when he and Punk competed in Champion vs. Champion matches that will go down as some of the best matches of the year in 2012. And continues to tear the house down on PPV's.

Daniel Bryan's mic skills are continually improving every time he's on TV. He has developed a ton of charisma over the past few weeks. His character has slowly become one of the most intriguing ones in WWE today. The 'Yes' chants have become hugely popular. He gets cheered and he's a heel. He became a guy that you can't hate, because of his technical wrestling ability and the 'Yes' chants. That's my opinion on why Daniel Bryan is the best in the world.

This is very easy, seeing as wrestling is a business all we have to do is look at who does the best business and we can land on the best in the world.

1. John Cena
2. The Rock
3. HHH

This of course makes everyone in TNA irrelevant as they do not draw half the business as WWE and we are looking for the best in the world- which is the top guy.

Call me crazy for sayin' it, but, I believe The Undertaker is the best. He's been able to last a long time and even reinvent himself and remain relevant to his major Wrestlemania streak. I don't base this on in-ring work, though. His in-ring stuff is good, but, his promos pre American Badass and while the badass were off the charts great.

I'd say today's gen would have to be Daniel Bryan or CM Punk. Both are very much over with the audience and both have interesting characters that compliment their in-ring greatness.

Hulk Hogan is the best ever, he drew the entire America into WWF and with that other superstars followed.

Ric Flair could not do that, Lou Thesz could not do that, Bret Hart was a Canadian and would have never made WWF popular.

Without question, the best in the world would have to be John Cena. There really aren't any arguments to be made here. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are entertaining both in and out of the ring, but at the end of the day, John Cena is the guy that casual fans will tune in to see. And whether people want to believe it or not, the casual fans are the only fans that matter.

Hardcore wrestling fans are like any other die hards. They're going to always be there, but when the die hards aren't enough, there needs to be casual fans to keep it relevant. John Cena is the poster boy for this. While the die hard fans of WWE seem to despise him, the casual channel surfers stop and watch because they know him from movies.

Plus, whether people want to believe it or not, John Cena always manages to pull people in to the products he puts out. CM Punk's win literally one year ago would've meant nothing had it been someone like Orton or anyone else but Cena. Laurinaitis would've been a mediocre heel authority figure had he not feuded with Cena. And don't even get me started on Brock Lesnar or Dwayne Johnson. John Cena is the guy people talk about the most in wrestling, and when you're the best, that's usually the first reason why.

Also, I'm quite surprised that there's no Chris Jericho mentioning in this thread.

For me right now as in active wrestlers I'm going with Bobby Roode. He proclaims to be the "it" factor of professional wrestling and he truly is just that and he backs it up.He is very gifted in ring and on the mic, and lets not forget many have called him the greatest heel champion since Triple H.

I don't think the topic was who was your favorite wrestler. Everybody has a favorite- but that does not make the best in the world. No one in TNA is the best the world- their only person to hold that title is Hogan. Bobby Roode is not a household name and I would even venture to say that many casual wrestling fans have no idea who he is. The best in the world is the biggest draw in WWE. Thats the way of the biz. And on a second note, who called Bobby Roode the best heal since HHH?

Considering Orton, Cena, Rock, Austin, Bret Hart, and HBK have ALL out sold Hogan, I would say that Hogan isn't the best. And you can get that "hogan changed wrestling" bullshit out of your head as well. The only one who still believes that is Hogan. Captain Lou Albino first reached out to Cindy Lauper and THAT'S how wrestling expanded. If not for him and Cindy making the Rock and Wrestling connection, Hogan's expedition to mainstream would be meaningless. And if not for his wife taking his money and his ****ty daughter taking over his reality show, people would've forgotten about him long ago.

Hogan was the best in the world in the 80s and early to mid 90s. There is no denying that Hogan is one of the most recognizable names in wrestling history. I personally am not a Hogan fan- but that does not mean that you cant recognize that Hogan was something very special. I don't understant the point that all those wrestlers have sold out? What do you mean sold him out? Rock and Austin are the only wrestlers that surpassed Hogan on the drawing and money making. And it still is probably a very close race between those 3.

One one who was an incredible shoe in for this era was Stone Cold Steve Austin; I even have to admit that i used to be slightly anti Austin, I mean the things this guy did from drinking beer to flipping the bird was style of risque on behalf of me, however I finally need to perceive and respect him. When he came to the WWF, he took the name, the Ringmaster, managed by Ted Dibiase, soon once he finally modified his name to Stone Cold Steve Austin. one in every of his best achievements was when he won the 1996 King of the Ring and gave his most famous speech, giving birth to the currently infamous Austin 3:16. In what I even have to mention is that the most bizarre factor that happened was when he entered a feud with Bret Hart who was returning once eight months, the fans began to appreciate Austin and hate Bret.

There are many types of "best in the world". People are talking about the best wrestler in the World, the best draw in the world, or the best entertainer in the world, and all these make it hard to have a clear answer and in all honestly when the average person is asked who they think the best in the world is, they're probably gonna give the name of the man or woman they find most entertaining. Pro wrestling is about entertaining, so obviously the best in the world would be the most entertaining. IMO all this talk about the biggest draw is a load of bullshit.

As for my answer, I believe the best in the world is Chris Jericho with Austin Aries in a close second. Both these guys always keep my interest, nobody if they're winning, losing, or in some bullshit story line, they are always able to keep my attention and it's them I look most forward to watching when I watch wrestling.

However I don't watch Japanese or indie wrestling so I don't know some guys mentioned here.

Greatest of all time is a hell of a question that no body will ever agree with. I'm gonna have to go with THE ROCK on this one. He exceled in everything. Charisma, match quality, draw power, and left a hell of a legacy that he's now returned to build upon. I know he may not have Shawn Michaels in the ring, but you were always into his matches. They were always exciting, and almost always important. When he mentioned his feat of defeating Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold, and John Cena all at WrestleMania.. it really put him in that position for me.

I think, to even suggest that CM Punk is the best of all time is ridiculous. You're entitled to your own opinions and all that, but man... Now, if we're talking who is CURRENTLY the best in the world, in terms of active wrestlers in the industry right at this moment, than I have to give it to CM Punk. But of all time? No way.

For me it's got to be the perfect mix of in-ring work, promo skills, marketability, look, etc etc. When I say the "best in the world" or the "best of all time" it's gotta be the PERFECT storm. My biggest issue is just how ambiguous this question is...

Currently, CM Punk is the best active professional wrestler and sports entertainer in the world. I would make a case for John Cena based on popularity and marketability, as well as influence, but as this is a personal decision I also have to weigh his in-ring ability, which I don't enjoy at all. The only thing Punk MIGHT be lacking is size, but that's easily solved by just partnering him up with the right opponents. The industry isn't flooded with giants and body-builders anymore; it's getting easier and easier to find guys Punk's size to put on great matches. Punk has got the total package, and while I currently enjoy Austin Aries more, Punk's sheer range and platform that the WWE allows him gives him a huge edge.

Now, best of all time..?

I'll get this out of the way: I don't like Hulk Hogan, and I'm not going to consider John Cena because it's a can of worms I don't want to devolve into right now. This is a highly personal and preferential discussion, so of course it's just going to come down to MY standards. There's only so much objectivity you can have...

I'm going to throw a couple names out there: Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Bret Hart, Steve Austin and the Rock. With the possible exception of Bret, all of these guys possessed the "perfect storm" i was just talking about. And again, Bret is debatable because I lot of people will say his mic work was damn good from time to time. He was certainly a good enough worker in that ring to make you forget that he lacked in ANY area.

Eddie goes off the list first, even though he's my personal favorite. He WAS passion, and he breathed his chracter in every single facet of his performance. Some guys cut good promos or have a great look. Eddie took his charisma, developed this perfect character, and then played that out into everythign from his promos to his facial experessions and body language. Eddie Guerrero, for lack of a better term, WAS Eddie Guerrero. But he was also on top of his game for too short a period before his tragic passing. He's done less than all the guys I mentioned, and therefor doesn't make the cut.

Next to be cut is Bret Hart. It almost pains me because of how damn good he was in the ring, but the Screwjob really did fuck with his career, and once he went to WCW I had no interest in watching him. He was also arguably the worst promo of the guys I've listed.

Between the five remaining (Angle, HBK, HHH, Austin and Rock) I have a very hard time progressing further. I can make case after case for all of them. Angle would likely be the next to get cut, but he's simply good at everything. His Olympic wins gave him a character and sense of legitimacy, much like Lesnar's UFC reign makes him scarier today. He's one of the all-time best in the ring, and he's cut some of my favorite promos and done some of my favorite feuds. He's easy to love, and easy to hate.

HHH is my all-time favorite heel. Promo work, ring general, one of the best looks in the industry. The guy was, and still very much is, a machine. Evolution was my all-time favorite faction for a very long time, in no small part to Triple H. Despite people's ignorant hatred of him, he's also done more to put over young talent than almost every top guy in the company put together.

HBK is over-rated, but still damn good. He's one of my least favorite promo guys today, but in his prime and given the right guy to work with he was easy money for the company. I'd probably cut him next though, because while he's well-known for stealing a show and providing some of the biggest industry moments, he sometimes lacked a weekly consistency that some of the others had more often than not.

Austin, Rock, HHH or Angle. I honestly have no idea... I'm sure others have their own idea, but I go back and forth between these guys all the time.
