Say that 5 times fast. Also, I know what a tag team turmoil match is so please refrain from "enlightening me"... This is a completely different concept.
This is just a random idea I had been thinking about since we started seeing the teased breakups of both Miz/Mizdow and Gold/Stardust. My line of thinking has been, nowadays in the WWE, there are very few "legitimate" tag teams. What I mean is that there aren't really tag teams like The Road Warriors and The Dudley Boyz anymore (The Usos are an exception) and most tag teams in this age seem to have a lifespan of anywhere from 6-18 months before they break up or just go away. This isn't my issue. My issue is that every tag team seems to break up in the same way... either because of jealousy or because one feels the other isn't pulling their weight. It gets repetitive after a while and the crowds can see it from a mile away.
So, my idea revolves around a tag team tournament that spans 3-4 weeks. The concept would be, all the tag teams in the WWE participate in this tournament and the final team standing would than have to face EACH OTHER in a #1 contenders match for the Intercontinental (or US) championship, therefore creating "turmoil" between the two. I think it would make sense in a number of ways.
First, in both kayfabe and in reality, a wrestler always wants to be a champion. More importantly, they always want to be a singles champion. It would make sense than, that the team would work together to win the tournament, and it would also make sense that they would than have the motivation to fight each other to have a chance at the IC (or US) belt. Secondly, it's another innovative way to break up a tag team while pushing the primary prospect and not burying the secondary. Thirdly, it gives us a match that people would be interested in seeing... I mean, who doesn't love watching a tag team fight each other. I think this would work great for teams like Miz/Mizdow and Cesaro/Kidd.
I think it would be cool if this were an annual thing that happened around Summerslam time. It could also be tweaked a bit some years to give the winning tag team a shot at the World title instead of the IC.
Do you guys see a problem with this idea? Is it shitty or can you ever see this happening?
