T.N.A. Miscellaneous News Thread

As noted yesterday, there is currently footage up on "YouTube" taken by a wrestling fan who followed Bob Backlund "wandering" around Universal Studios in Orlando, FL before TNA's Against All Odds PPV last Sunday at this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVU_PJnRkWw

This isn't the first time wrestling fans and members of TNA's staff have spotted Backlund doing this as he has reportedly been an entertaining aspect of the backstage area.

It should also be noted that tickets for the Lockdown PPV, which can be purchased over at Metrotix.com, appear to be moving well so far.

Floor seats priced at $150, $120 and $60 all appear to be sold out as of today. The total capacity for the show according to the Family Arena website is 9,249.

Tickets for TNA's Lockdown PPV on April 15 in St. Louis, Missouri at the Family Arena went on sale Friday morning at 10:00am CT.

NWA World Champion Christian Cage, Eric Young and TNA Knockout Christy Hemme had an autograph session for those who showed up at the Family Arena box office to purchase tickets (an estimated 400 people showed up).

Former WWE champion Kurt Angle arrived in Japan on Saturday, as he prepares for his New Japan tag team match on Sunday at Ryogoku Kokugikan.

Zach Arnold reports that Angle met Nagata for a photo-op and had a Hummer escort vehicle. Angle was billed as a "Real American Hero" and he stated that he would like a singles match against Nagata in the future.

While backstage morale in TNA is said to be very high right now, there are still some undercard workers not happy with their position and pay. They are especially unhappy about having to pay for their own hotels and transportation.

There is some talk within the company about making Christy Hemme manage a tag team or stable that will be feuding with VKM.

After some controversial media interviews with Samoa Joe, Kip James and BG James, TNA now wants to authorize all media interviews with their talent.

There is actually some real life backstage heat between Team 3D and the LAX in TNA. Brother Ray has been frustrated with fans cheering for LAX instead of Team 3D.

Brother Ray has been complaining that Konnan's recent promos have been to baby face and that it's hurting Team 3D's 'over-ness'. forums.wrestlezone.com reports that Brother Ray is known to speak out when he doesn't like something where D-Von never speaks out and comes ready to work and do what is asked of him. He also trains in the gym regularly where Ray 'slacks' according to sources.

The segment on this past Monday's "This is TNA" special where Christian Cage came to the ring and introduced the top two moments in TNA history was taped at the last taping before the Against All Odds PPV.

BG James we telling people backstage recently that if he could get out of his TNA deal and had an offer from the WWE he would jump in a heart beat. forums.wrestlezone.com reports that Kip James feels the same way.

There is some heat on Samoa Joe for the recent comment he made about tripping over bad booking when had to miss a recent ROH show due to an injury.

forums.wrestlezone.com reports that Rhino recently did an interview in the Dearborn Press and Guide. He said he wants to wrestle for 10 more years and admitted that the belt he burned on iMPACT! last year was just a replica of the ECW title. He still has the real title in his possession.

Randy Couture was approached by TNA a while back

New Japan President Simon Inoki was very happy with Kurt Angle's New Japan debut over the weekend, and plans to send out another offer at once. Nikkan Sports said New Japan invited Angle for two reasons, one to assist the company's ongoing reactivation and the other to strengthen their ties with TNA. If all goes well, there could be more productive talent exchange between the two promotions from now on.

Jeremy Lappen of EXC and Jeff Jarrett are friends and TNA has been trying to do some sort of MMA tie-in with them for years. For those wondering, forums.wrestlezone.com is reporting that Jeff Jarrett is backstage at every TNA PPV and the iMPACT! tapings working in creative and making sure things are running smoothly backstage. He'll be back in 2007 according to the site and their backstage sources.

There is some interest in doing Kurt Angle vs. Frank Shamrock but the odds of it actually happening are very slim. You honestly never know with Kurt these days. Frank Shamrock is now associated with EliteXC which is an MMA company who recently debuted on Showtime.

Mike Johnson is reporting that The Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority confirmed earlier this afternoon that TNA will be holding a House Show event at the Louisville Gardens in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, April 20. TNA President Dixie Carter is currently listed as the promoter for the event.

As reported on earlier, TNA is planning to move forward with House Show plans for 2007 in a number of markets. Official announcements from TNA regarding an upcoming live event schedule could be coming very soon.

Christy Hemme is scheduled to go heel soon managing a heel team vs. VKM. forums.wrestlezone.com is reporting that The Heart Throbs have been talked about but have not signed any sort of deal with the company as of right now. TNA management apparently liked their ring entrance during a tryout several weeks ago but were not very fond of their in-ring work. We'll keep you posted.

When James Mitchell returns to TNA he is scheduled to bring in someone to feud with Abyss who will be a babyface by that point. Plans can always change though. The forums.wrestlezone.com site is confirming that James Mitchell will definitely be taking 1-2 months off very soon. We'll keep you posted.

Does that insinuate that she'll turn on the Throbs and join VKM? Because if she turns heel and doesn't join VKM, that makes absolutely no sense to have heel vs heel after all the hype they've put on this storyline.

Biggest. Mistake. Ever. to turn Abyss face. And separate Mitchell from Abyss? They'd be crazy.

Daniels' New TNA Gimmick, Lockdown Notes, Genesis
02/21/2007 by Ryan Clark

TNA officials are happy with early ticket sales for the Lockdown PPV is St. Louis. One of the main reasons St. Louis was selected is because they are among the top rated cities for iMPACT! viewership.

The 2006 Genesis PPV has been released nationally this week. The show features Abyss winning the NWA Title and the first Angle vs. Joe match.

'The Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels is getting a new gimmick, although it is not known as to what it is just yet. Vignettes will continue to air until he is reintroduced. Also, he won't be doing any wrestling until the unveiling.

And I thought they were crazy for planning to turn Abyss face, why would they get rid of the Fallen Angel persona? It's always been really over with the fans, not to mention it gives Daniels an independence not seen by any of the other TNA stars.

Damnit, I hope these aren't Russo's ideas, though they probably are. Get rid of that twerp.

Jackie Moore had a "wardrobe malfunction" during her mixed tag match at the Against All Odds pay-per-view. Her breasts came out of her top and referee Rudy Charles covered for her while she adjusted herself. Jackie has a lengthy history of wardrobe malfunctions, so you can chalk this one up as number four. Her breast was exposed (presumably intentionally) during her bikini contest at Fully Loaded 1998. Her chest was exposed once again at the UK-only pay-per-view Capital Carnage in December 1998 as her top was intentionally ripped off during a mixed tag match. She had another wardrobe malfunction (her top was too small) on an episode of RAW in the fall of 2002 while she was dancing to the tunes of the rock band The Union Underground, who were playing live on the RAW set.

Orlando Jordan was backstage at last week's PPV and TV tapings visiting friends and looking for work. His name has come up several times in the past, but at this time he isn't being seriously considered for employment.

The 'Last Rights' match between Abyss and Sting at next month's Destination X pay-per-view will require the winner to strap his opponent to a cross-like structure to win. There are no plans for Abyss to lose his mask, and losing the mask isn't something he's interested in doing anyways.

Brother Ray asked Jeff Jarrett if he could turn heel, but was turned down. They've got a LAX vs. Team 3D feud booked up through a cage match at Lockdown in April.

source: PWInsider

--TNA has made some major changes to their Rosters. Siamond Diamond, David Young, and Elix Skipper have all been removed from the TNA Roster.

TNA stars removed:
Siamond DIamond
David Young
Elix Skipper
Jackie
Norman Smiley

TNA stars moved to the side:
So Cal Val
Jim Cornette

TNA stars added:
Mr. Backlund
Jackie Moore
Jerry Lynn

I hope this doesn't mean they've gotten rid of Elix Skipper? He's a great performer.

New Japan Pro Wrestling's Simon Inoki told the Japanese media recently that he intends on bringing Kurt Angle back to the promotion very soon. Angle debuted for New Japan last weekend in Tokyo.

TNA's Slammiversary PPV will be held on Sunday, June 17. This is scheduled to be TNA's next PPV held outside of Orlando, Florida after the Lockdown PPV this April. Nashville seems like a likely candidate, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

During "Cold Pizza" on ESPN 2 yesterday morning, a clip was shown from the match with Team 3D and Sopranos star Steve Schirripa against LAX. ESPN plugged that the match would be airing on Thursday night (tonight) on Spike TV.

Elix Skipper and David Young (who later became The Diamonds In The Rough tag team) were both released from their TNA contracts last week according to a report on forums.wrestlezone.com.

According to reports, Young had requested his release from the company many weeks ago. Skipper's status with TNA leading up to his release remains unknown at this time. Neither had been used by TNA for quite a while. Simon Diamond, who was the manager for the tag team, will be staying with TNA as an agent.

According to new reports by The Pro Wrestling Torch, Vince Russo was overheard making a comment after watching a recent episode of iMPACT! on Spike TV. This source stated Russo said something to the effect of that he "couldn't tell you one thing he just saw" after viewing an episode.

Russo said this in front of members of TNA's management and other staff, which included TNA President Dixie Carter, Jeff Jarrett and Spike TV network executives. The word making the rounds right now is that Russo is just as frustrated as anyone with the number of things he is being told to fit into each episode of iMPACT! every week. There is reportedly pressure to put everyone on TV every week because many talent get paid per TV appearance. Rather than adjust the current pay schedule, TNA management has decided to require that everyone gets a short segment every week.

The Pro Wrestling Torch is reporting that there has been lots of talk regarding TNA's programming last week with the "This is TNA!" special airing on February 12 (which drew a 1.2 rating) and a new episode of TNA iMPACT! that aired on February 15 (which only drew a 0.6 rating going head-to-head with WWE Raw). Given the number TNA drew on Monday night going unopposed with WWE Monday Night Raw being preempted in the United States until Thursday due to the Westminster Dog Show, many were left scratching their heads as to why TNA chose to do a "Best Of" show instead of a new live show building off current storylines in the company and especially the day after the Against All Odds PPV.

According to reports, one reason why TNA didn't make this move was the company's issue with having to "learn on the fly" so to speak on how to insert commercials into a live broadcast. While that may sound like a strange reason seeing as TNA produces live three-hour PPV events every month, the company does not have live TV experience. So doing live TV with commercial feeds requires another level of production that TNA isn't currently equipped for right now. It should also be noted that TNA President Dixie Carter wanted to change the name of the special from "This is TNA!" to "This is TNA Wrestling!" a week before it aired so viewers looking through a guide would see "wrestling" in the title. However, Carter was told that it was too late to make the change.

As for the new episode of iMPACT! last Thursday, TNA officials obviously weren't thrilled about the lower rating iMPACT! garnered on Thursday, but also weren't expecting a strong number at the same time. Says one TNA source, "Last week, we knew we'd be spanked by WWE on Thursday. The real test is this week, without competition from RAW on Thursday." So while the company had a hard time drawing viewers going up against WWE Raw, if they are able to improve on the 1.2 record rating from two weeks ago (which drew a record 1.6 million viewers), it could likely be attributed to earning new viewers thanks to the Monday night special last week.

While many in the wrestling media were quick to bury TNA following its subpar numbers last week, especially going head-to-head with WWE on last Thursday night, one TV industry source claims the whole situation regarding TNA is a wash, but that the company isn't in bad shape right now. This TV source added quote, "Anyone who knows anything about the TV industry knows that you put a check mark in the success column next to TNA's name. It's one of Spike's top three programs each week in its timeslot in the male 18-34 demo. TNA is more likely to leave Spike because of a better offer from another cable station down the line than Spike is to cancel TNA."

When one TNA source was asked if TNA has any plans of presenting a live TV show on Spike TV anytime soon, the source added quote, "The internal attitude is we'll go live when we're ready. We just don't feel ready yet."

As noted earlier by the forums.wrestlezone.com website, Elix Skipper & David Young who had been teaming since 2005 as the Diamonds in the Rough were both been released from their TNA contracts this week. Their manager Simon Diamond will be staying on with TNA as an agent.

Tickets for the Lockdown fan-fest go on sale tomorrow via Shoptna.com.

The Genesis 2006 DVD was released in stores nationwide this past Tuesday and is now up for sale at Shoptna.com. The only extra on the disc is the pre-show that took place before the PPV.

Former TNA authority figure Larry Zbyszko is claiming on his official website that the film rights to his life story have been purchased by The Rich Dickerson Media Group.

Elix Skipper, David Young, A1, Jackie Gayda, Simon Diamond and Norman Smiley have all been removed from the TNA roster page. While Jackie Moore, Bob Backlund and Jerry Lynn have all been added. Socal Val and Jim Cornette have been moved over to the side under other TNA employees.

"Phenomenal" The Best of AJ Styles Volume 2 DVD is set to be released on 4/3.

There is currently a buy one TNA DVD get one free sale on-going at all FYE and Suncoast stores. Genesis 2006 is excluded from this sale

Mike Johnson is reporting that TNA has released former Team Canada member A1.

This comes on the heels of TNA parting ways with Elix Skipper and David Young.

Bob Backlund, 58, walks to and from the hotel to the Impact Zone - and it's a long walk - 30 to 60 minutes. After the iMPACT! tapings, it's dark outside as well and he still insists that he must walk as numerous people have tried to pick him up. He attributes his current good health to all the walking he does and estimates he finds an average of 50 cents a day in change while walking according to forums.wrestlezone.com. He also starts his day with a glass of carrot juice and garlic. He says the concoction is the closest thing in nature to "human blood." Whatever works Bob!

It is being said that TNA management wants Vince Russo to relocate to Nashville from Atlanta, where he currently resides. Based on what is known right now, Russo is said to be hesitant about making the move because of the lack of long-term assurances that comes with the role of a booker in the wrestling business. So, while there are no indications that TNA wants to remove Russo from his role right now with the company, he understands there is no long-term guarantee and making this move would be a big change for his family. We will continue to follow this situation as it develops.
