When did I say that. If you want to blame Vince, then fine. I do too a little bit. He has grown comfortable with no competition and he is not trying to entertain us anymore. It's a shame but that's the way things are now. The only problem with that is that nobody cares for his stroylines anymore so they are not buying the PPV's. Rnady Orton included.

Is he a better wrestler than CM Punk or Chris Jericho? No, I don think so. Is he better on the mic than Chris Jericho? No. Then why should he be voted in instead of Chris Jericho? There is no logical reason to vote for him over Jericho. The only reason you would say yes to any of these question is that you are a fan and will defend them to the hilt. Ask anyone here and they will tell you Jericho is both better in the ring and on the mic.

You realise that "concur" means agree, right?

You said that Vince wants it his way, which is making him responsible for the characters plots and such, So because of Vince Randy is the character he is, thus it's not Randys fault he has to continue a stale feud.

Like you said I'm a fan of Orton and no matter how many times you compare him to any other wrestler I still think he does his job to the best in the company right now.

And yeah I just saw that, It's pretty late and I'm tired. I'm sure you and I both know I meant to say object lol.

Fixed.

As of now it's Orton but at the end of the year something tells me it will be another yar of Cena he will beat Orton at Summerslam and after that it's tough Orton has been around the WWE title for quite some time but he leads a stable now the main point of the stable is for it's leader to hold a world championship if he doesn't have it or isn't feuding for it then the stable is pointless.

Right Now-Randy Orton

All Of 2009-John Cena

Great...An oiled up headlock machine with a create-a-wrestler and a guy whose a mid-card talent wrestler at best being wrestler of the year!Yeah so what if he's been in the longest most pointless feud i've ever seen (I've been watching since about 97).
Raw is damn near unwatchable.I'm not saying it's fault but he is the champion and the main guy on the show.

Well, cutting through the old crap cake a couple of you are baking I will proudly admit that I voted for Edge, and at the time of posting am the only one to vote for Edge which I think is somewhat of a travesty although great arguments can and have been made for others.

I am of the consensus of folks who believe that either he or Chris Jericho should be Wrestler of the Year. Jericho got it officially last years so maybe it is only fair to pick someone else this time around and in my view Edge is the clear cut #1 candidate. Just for arguments sake I think you could have given the Wrestler of the Year honors to Edge last year as well. I think he is really overlooked a lot basically because most of the time he is putting someone else over, and his character is always made to look like a coward or like a desperate fool who can't win the title on his own merits and ability.

If I just voted for my favorite I would have voted for Triple H, he is my favorite wrestler for a multitude of reasons that I probably don't have to list to you, but the fact of the matter is that he has not been the wrestler of the year. Triple H always does his part, but I have to say Wrestlemania 25 automatically put he and Orton out of the running in my book. They had arguable the worst match at Wrestlemania, and whether it was because of the amazing matches that preceded theirs of whatever, it was a snooze fest and as some on else put it once " I doesn't matter how much or how many times J.R. yells "This is personal, this is damn personal !!!" It doesn't make the match any better" I couldn't agree more.

Edge on the other hand I think delivers the best match quality, against the best quality opponents, the most consistently. Even though he is out for the rest of the year and possible a large portion of the next, his merits in my view are every bit worthy or calling him wrestler of the year. He has been involved in one of the best feuds in my view this year with John Cena, Big Show, and Vickie Guerrero, and really I just can't express how much I sincerely believe he delivers the goods more than anybody. Forget titles, just match quality and opponent quality gives him the thumbs up for me. If you want to look at titles however, he has 9, more than anyone except Triple H if I am recollecting correctly. I doesn't really matter how he got them, he got them, they are in the books, and he has managed to always stay in that title picture without becoming stale or unbelievable. Just the fact that you know he will do anything to win, and often times does, makes him one of the most entertaining guys to watch in my mind because you just never know what he will do, he brings with him that sense of unpredictability. The only thing you can predict is that he will do any dastardly deed necessary to win, and that makes him interesting. They have tried that avenue with Randy Orton but he just looks weak for it, Edge makes you believe. It's not just that he goes to any length, it's the fact that the lengths he goes to are far beyond what anyone else would do.

Once again I will drive home the argument of consistency with Edge. He has consistently had top notch matches at every Wrestlemania, top notch matches at most every pay per view, and taken on all the best talent. Few guys in the business deliver like Edge whether he wins or not, you can always count on seeing a good match when he is in it. It doesn't even matter if he wins Royal Rumbles, Wrestlemania matches, titles, title defenses, whatever. His involvement always makes you wonder. Anytime he is involved you have to just wonder what he is going to do, and if he will pull it out, or if someone will find a way to out smart the "Master Manipulator" the "Ultimate Opportunist". I think he cuts some of the best promos no matter what, and has the consistent ability to make you hate him, and believe he really is the character he portrays. It does not require any suspension of belief to but into Edge's rant's, antics, and behaviors. He is just that good. While a lot of guys somehow garner success, popularity, big wins, and big pops Edge seems to be able to go along and be immune to any of it. He doesn't necessarily need the big wins, the big popularity, or anything else. He get's by on his character, charisma, and attitude all on their own. I would find it very hard for anyone to be able to argue convincingly that anyone else deserves the honors of Wrestler of the Year more than Edge. I would find it hard for anyone to argue that he has not been deserving of said honors for many of the past few years. It is just easy to overlook him when you have guys getting big pushes, big wins, huge fan support, and title reigns around him while he either contributes to that success of the other guys, or gets the brunt of it all. I like Edge, and he get's my vote. I hope some of you see fit to agree, he has earned it in my eyes in many different ways.

I voted for Chris Jericho.

Until this year, I really hadn't watch wrestling consistently since the early aughts, sometime between when the Original ECW fell apart and The Rock started spending most of his time making movies.

Its slowly pulled me back in, but the truth is there's a lot of crap that makes me scratch my head and wonder why I'm watching this instead of reading a book or some other more worthy leisure activity. However, the reason I've added Smackdown to my weekly recording schedule, the magnet that has truly sucked me back in, is the excellence of one Chris Jericho. I caught a glimpse of the Michaels-Jericho feud back in 2008 when it was starting and thought to myself, damn, this is some good TV, why did I stop watching it again? Than the Michaels-Undertaker match re-sparked my interest a bit several months later, sending me on a YouTube frenzy that started with trying to relive the Michaels-Jericho feud, and has continued to include hundreds of old Rock promos, a plethora of Rob Van Dam matches (I forgot how watching that dude was like being on the set of an action movie), and the Dudley Boys trying to start a riot in the ECW arena.

Yet I digress. The bottom line is, this to me is a matter of who has captured my personal interest. Chris Jericho reminded me last year that wrestling ain't too bad, this year he sucked me in completely. Every time he picks up the microphone, the way he manipulates the crowd is simply awesome, and there's a delicious irony for me to peek up over the latest issue of the New Yorker to smugly smirk at some mouthbreathers booing a guy for using SAT words. And the matches, oh lord, the matches. The mid-air codebreaker on Mysterio, astounding. The way he stays in character for his matches, screaming at his opponents, slapping them upside the head, demanding the ref ask them to tap out. Just about everything Jericho does is pitch-perfect. And that, to me, makes him Superstar of the Year.

Runners-up:
2. John Morrison: His jaw-dropping athleticism has entirely convinced me that he is the star of the future.
3. Edge: Not quite as good as Jericho, in my opinion, but damn if he didn't deliver some excellent work of his own pre-injury.
4. Rey Mysterio: For being the second party, and absolutely holding his own in his feud with Jericho, as well as helping to bring the IC belt back to prominence.
5. Orton: More limited than Jericho and Edge, but he has heel psychology down pretty damn well. Loses a couple of spots because except at Night of Champions, which I thought was a fantastic match, and the Last Man Standing against HHH on the commercial-free (or was it 3 hour?) RAw, has delivered some real snoozers.

Honorable mention: CM Punk and Jeff Hardy. Not my favorite wrestlers, but I think their storyline has been brilliant, although I do think Creative should have booked Punk to retain at N.o.C. after what should prove to be a career-making promo ala' Austin 3:16.

I've been wanting to post a topic like this for quite some time now. I'm just curious to see what you guys choose. Who in your opinion is the superstar/wrestler of the year so far.

My pick: Rey Mysterio

Let's just look at is 2009 PPV record:

Royal Rumble - Lasted a long time in there and had a great performance with some really nice spots.

No Way Out - Again, lasted really long in a match but this time in an Elimination Chamber. He had some huge spots in there including hitting a seated senton bomb on Kane, hitting a nice 619 on Cena :), and going head first into a pod. He really did make the Chamber a main event worthy match because he did everything in his power to make the viewers pop and and did everything he could to amuse us. Don't believe me? Just watch the ending where he faced off against Edge.

Wrestlemania - Let's just forget this.

Backlash - Missed it :(

Judgment Day - A really good Intercontinental Title match against Chris Jericho which stole the show.

Extreme Rules - Another very good Intercontinental Title match against Chris Jericho with an awesome ending.

The Bash - One last Intercontinental Title match against Chris Jericho on PPV. This was easily they're best match together where they once again stole the show. This, to me, is the second best PPV match of the year with the match of the year being, yeah...

Night of Champions - Another really good Intercontinental Title defense but this time against Dolph Ziggler. Though Ziggler lost, he still managed to look very strong as he lasted over 15 minutes against Rey Rey.

But this is not to say Rey Rey hasn't had any other great matches. His matches on SmackDown against Edge, Jericho, and Punk have all been amazing. I'm really looking forward to see what he'll be doing in the near future and to me, he's really making the Intercontinental Title special.

Runner up: Jeff Hardy

From his amazing ladder match against Edge, to his incredible Night of Champions main event match against CM Punk. Jeff Hardy is having a great year as his matches against Matt Hardy, Punk, Edge, Jericho, and Morrison have all been phenomenal.

CM Punk, simply because his heel turn has been so incredibly enjoyable; he's quickly becoming one of my favorite wrestlers. He won Money In The Bank at Wrestlemania, and had a decent World Title reign after cashing it in. He's put on some of the best TV matches of the year, including a one-on-one with Edge, a triple-threat with Edge and Jeff Hardy, and two great matches with John Morrison. If I had to pick a runner-up, I'd say Chris Jericho, mostly due to his awesome feud with Rey Mysterio.

I would say Jericho, even though he hasn't done spectacular things this year in particular, his "lows" are certainly better than most of the roster's "highs". CM Punk gets runner up from me, I have enjoyed about everything he has been involved in, and especially his slow heel turn.

I'll give it to Morrison. I know the IWC isn't exactly unanimous on him, but he's consistently wowed me so far this year. His in-ring performance is stellar, his mic work is solid, and he's as charismatic and fun to watch as anyone in the business right now in my opinion.

I can't wait to see where he goes from here.

Jeff Hardy
His year to date has been outstanding. He's not only built himself up in his career he has also helped others get over more and has not had a bad match, at least on PPV.

Royal Rumble - He had a great match against Edge ending in Matt Hardy's heel turn. He was also the WWE champion going into the match.

No Way Out - He went into the chamber and eliminated Edge straight away and then battled throughout the match only to lose to Triple H and Undertaker.

Wrestlemania - He had IMO the 2nd best match at Mania against his brother Matt in an extreme rules match. He lost this but in the process he helped Matt get over as a heel.

Smackdown - The next week on Raw he had a great match again with Matt which was a stretcher match. He again lost to put over his brother but still put on a great show.

Backlash - Again, 3rd match against Matt in which he won in an I Quit match which had a really great ending. This ended the feud with Matt.

Extreme Rules - Jeff then went into a ladder match against Jeff which IMO is in the top 3 match's of the year. He went toe to toe with Edge and created a truly great match. He won the WHC only to lose it to Punk when he cashed in his MITB.

The Bash - Here he had his rematch against Punk. Leading up to the match Hardy and Punk were involved in a battle of words, Hardy helped to put Punk over as a tweener/heel and they both did an amazing job. Hardy lost to Punk when Punk 'injured' his eye, further putting over Punk's heel turn.

Night of Champions - Hardy wins the WHC in a decent match against Punk. Punk didn't look weak in this so Hardy again helped Punk get over, both men have done a wonderful job in this feud and Hardy has started to show he can be the main man on Smackdown.

Smackdown - He had what in my opionion is the 2nd best match of the year against John Morrison. I was so impressed with this match, they both performed extremely well and to be honest I though John might actually get the championship. Hardy ended up winning and retaining the title but in the process put Morrison over as a credible threat to the championship.

Now Hardy has shown this year he's not always a screw up and that he can certainly carry a show and help others get over. He has one of the biggest fan followings in the WWE and hasn't really put on a bad match this year.

A close runner up would be CM Punk, he has done a very good job this year.

That's the link to another thread like this, so could we please get it merges or something.

As for my pick, as I said in the other one, it is Randy Orton, hands down on Raw, he's been the man for pretty much the whole year, no body can touch him right now. As for Smackdown, no idea, don't watch it to much. I would have gone with Edge though likely. He was on fire. Best heel on Smackdown and best heel behind Orton. As far as ECW... Christian all the way, he's carried the show in my opinion and has had the best matches on it.

I posted in the other thread but whatever I'll go with a Raw Smackdown and ECW superstar of the year yeah I'm feeling froggy. Seriously though isn't this a question for the end of the year I mean the best team in baseball right now is the Dodgers by the end of the year there's a damn good chance that won't be the case.

Raw-For now it's Orton no doubt he's the man and the best heel today and will continue to be for years to come saying all that in the end it won't matter because John Cena will surpass him bank on it.

Smackdown- It's CM Punk's year yeah he lost the title he's getting it back and his heel turn has been nothing short of amazing I remember reading about this guy and his heel character in ROH I had my doubts......... at first now he's vastly entertaining and is becoming a favorite of mine.

ECW- Captain Charisma Christian is now and will be by the end of the year honestly he should be main eventing on Raw or Smackdown sigh that's another topic I suppose.

For those who have criticized the poster for posting a similar thread, let me amend the thread and name my NEW Superstar of the Year....that'd be Jack Swagger by a landslide.

He opened the year as the #1 Contender to the ECW Title and won it from Matt Hardy, who at the time was easily the most over Superstar on that program, also while ECW was just getting extremely entertaining. Swagger then defended that title successfully against Matt at the Royal Rumble and Finlay at No Way Out. Obviously, he had to drop the ECW Title so he could move up to the main show, but ever since he came to Raw, things have seemed drastically different. He beat MVP already, and MVP blows and deserves to be behind Swagger in the pecking order. By year's end, who knows. The sky is the limit.

Essentially, Swagger is the best pure wrestler on WWE's flagship program. He is getting better on the mic, his arrogance is growing week to week and he gets a very genuine reaction from the crowd. He is flat out entertaining, and we should enjoy this while we see it, because stars like this don't come along very often. I would be willing to wager he gets a Brock Lesnar style push once the whole Orton-HHH-Cena story passes (and trust me, it will).

How could it be anyone other than Randy Orton? He won the Rumble...has been WWE champ for months...head of the biggest stable in WWE...took out the WHOLE McMahon family...headlined Wrestlemania...and has become on of the more bonafide stars in the federation.

No one else can claim that.

Either Randy Orton or CM Punk. Simply because I see this as another heel award, like the King of the Ring. Jeff Hardy won't get it because he is slated to take some time off. Swagger won't get it cus he's just too new and there are only 5 months left in the year, not enough for him to wow people into thinking he's the Superstar of the Year. Randy Orton has won 2 WWE titles this year, won the RR, main evented WM, fought the McMahons, and is even main eventing SummerSlam. CM Punk won MITB and the WHC, and is fighting in a TLC against Jeff at SummerSlam.

In my book it's two guys...

Chris Jericho, look since the build up for maina this guy has been on fire. His match with the legends, manly Steamboat was amazing. The you move on to backlash and he had another great match with a man that's over 50.. Come on who else has done that? After that had a series of matches with Rey that were easily the best match at each ppv. He one his ninth IC title. Breaking his own record. After that he goes on to two win the unified tag titles with edge, then loses his partner and retains them with Big show. The guy has been going strong since last year. Oh, and did I mention that his promos are amazing? yeah

The other is Randy Orton. He won the royal rumble goes on to take out the entire McMahon family. Who else has done that? Had what I thought was a sweet match against Shane. He went on to headline Mania. Winning the title at backlash then again on raw later. The guy has been strong all year besides a few booking issues.

I kind of feel like giving out some baseball style awards.

ROTY - Jack Swagger. This isn't even close. He's been ECW champ, and got promoted to Raw almost immediately. He has put on a classic match with Cena, become an interesting ally of Randy Orton, and is consistently on PPV's. Let me tell you now the internet darling, Spotmonkey Bourne probably has to buy a ticket to SummerSlam.

Cy Young - For the big guys to hit homeruns, someone has to serve them up. The best "pitchers" in wrestling are the guys who are on the wrong end of the big moment. The mid season winner of this award is HHH. HHH did win at Mania, but has consistently lost to Orton, lost to Cena, and been harassed by Legacy. While everyone drones on about HHH's burying people, ask Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton how buried they feel right now.

Comeback Player of the Year - Rey Mysterio. I am not a Rey fan. I do not like cruisers, but I will admit, his series with Jericho was epic. Rey has consistently performed well whether he be the champion, the challenger or filler in the Rumble or EC. He missed much of last year with all sorts of injuries and a bad Kane feud. This year he has shined, and I appreciate his work.

MVP - The most valuable member of the roster this year has been Jeff Hardy. We are not talking about who had the best year, but the most valuable. Jeff has held Smackdown together in the face of no Undertaker, missing Edge, and no other top faces on the show. His matches have ranged from good to spectacular all year. Despite what you personally think of the outcome of the NoC match, it was a great match. His feud with Edge was amazing, and he got shit on by creative for the good of the show. Now, with some returns in the wings and some people ready to step up, Jeff can take a break as he has wrestled on every SD! and several Raws this year.

I'm going to have to say Orton. He has done so much this year from winning the Royal Rumble to forming Legacy. Plus he's been the champion twice this year.

My runner up would definitely be Jeff Hardy. He has been the face of Smackdown for a while now and he's also won the title twice. Plus he's been in two main event feuds(Edge, CM Punk), and not to mention and brother vs brother feud.

CM Punk. Smackdown doesn't have a lot of talking, mostly wrestling (which I think is an advantage over RAW). However, Punk can talk and wrestle excitingly. He has talked more than anyone on Smackdown (even Jericho), and whether he is face or heel, he sounds great, and backs it up with a very interesting wrestling style. He was Intercontinental Champ, Money in the Bank, and World Heavyweight Champ. The writing is on the wall for him to win the World Title again and defend it well against any challenger. Punk's gradual heel turn has captivated me. His matches with Edge, Morrison and Hardy leave me on the edge of my seat. Punk is THE rising and future star in the WWE, and Superstar of the Year.
