For those of you unaware, Townsend wrote the Adrian Mole series of books and was a major force in British literature during the 80's, 90's and 00's.
As a fan of the books when I was younger, this has made me very sad. They were a joy to read, and I loved how the character continued to mature as he went older, and the humour remained intact.
RIP.
