Street Fighter 4

I cannot believe there isn’t a thread on this already.

Anyway, I stopped playing games a little while after I graduated high school, but with Street Fighter 2 being one of my all time favorite games growing up (plus also being a fan of the cartoon series and animated movie growing up), I couldn't resist checking out Street Fighter 4 recently when my friend came to my place for a few days and bought his PS3, along with the game, over.

And yeah, the graphics and little storylines are all awesome, but holy shit... this game is hard as fuck. I cannot hit an Ultra Combo to save my life. And it can't be that I'm out of touch with newer games because I also played Soul Caibur 4 (I was really good at, oddly enough, Soul Calibur 2 a few years ago, so I thought I'd play this as well), and I was able to play that just fine. But Street Fighter 4 seems impossible to master. And I know I'm not the only one, because I've read a lot of people bitching at how hard it is.

But yeah, other then that, it’s a lot of fun playing it. Ryu and Vega have both always been my favorites, but man it sucks getting my ass kicked all the time with them, when I was awesome at Street Fighter 2.

So anyway, I thought I'd come here and see what people think of the game. Is there anyone here who has been able to master it already? Who are you favorite characters to play with? Ect.

Soul Caliber and Street Fighter are 2 completely different types of games. Once you master 1 2D fighter you master them all. No ones moves have changed drastically since the last Street Fighters. Only new thing is the revenge finisher. Which depending on who you use is hard or easy. Charge characters such as Vega, Chun Li, and Blanka's finisher are extremely hard and close to impossible to do on a standard PS3 controller. If you expect to do them you may need a joystick or a fightpad, but other characters like Ryu or Kens finisher are a piece of cake.

Fun game gets boring after awhile like all fighters. Only play when friends are over which is often. As for difficulty, i don't find anything hard except for the final boss Seth, but i have gotten use to him so its easier to beat him.

I would have created a thread, but I’m new with very few posts.

Simply put; I’m excited. After a year and a half dedicated to M.U.G.E.N., my interest in Street Fighter, along with King of Fighters and Guilty Gear, has grown. I purchased the Collector’s Edition package last week, and should be receiving it this Monday; if the impending snowstorm doesn’t cause issue.

Favorite characters: Vega [Bison], Fei Long, Ryu, Ken, and Gouki [Akuma]

Edit: Dan as well

New characters that have my interest: Viper and Abel

Honestly? I’m a decent 2D Street Fighter player, but I’m nowhere near expert level when it comes to Guilty Gear.

Guilty Gear has the same button scheme as most 2D fighters. I've never had a problem with Guilty Gear. A few more buttons to press in Guilty Gear for moves compared to Street Fighter. It may be hard for you to get used to guilty since its a lot more fast paced compared to other 2D fighters, meaning you have to input buttons a lot faster, and it causes more of a strain on the hand(well for me at least).

How would the existence of a learning curve provide support for your comment?

I’ve only found one answer; it doesn’t.

I’ve recently received the game, and felt this comment should be highlighted, considering the amount of validity it has.

The game will more than likely be difficult for those who are new to the series or simply lost interest. I know this is the case for me, resulting in the majority of play taking place in Challenge mode, where the trials can be an absolute bitch. Inputting certain combos call for absolute precision, and if you’re off by a second or marginally less, it’s a failed attempt.

The learning process can be discouraging, especially to those who felt they were kings of the Soul Calibur realm. However, absolute mastery requires practice.

On a different note, Zangief is a total fuck. I cannot think of any other character, from any game, that I hate more as an opponent.

Additionally, my interest in El Fuerte has grown after this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdmBS7V6DI0).

Edit:

Progress - I’ve unlocked Rose, Fei Long, and Sakura. Furthermore, I satisfied the requirements for certain trophies, nothing of actual merit, but it’s still an accomplishment.

Favorite characters in-game so far: El Fuerte, Ken, and M.Bison [Vega].

Haha... dude, I feel the exact same way. All the motherfucker does is grab. Same case for Abel, but Abel is still a tad bit easier then Zangief. Seth can be a pain in the ass too.

Anyway, I've improved somewhat since my first post. My problem was that I thought the Joy stick was what was needed to be used to hit Combos and what not, but in reality... the DPad is the way to go. I've learned to hit Ryu's special moves, along with a few others. But Vega and Akuma (who has the most awesome one) are damn near impossible to hit for me right now. I've also been having a problem trying to unlock Gouken, but I know for sure I'll get that eventually.
