Steve Nash: Best PG in the LG?

I know. I must be crazy right? I mean, how could I even assume that Nash is the best Point Guard in the NBA with guys like Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Rajon Rondo out there? But let's look at Nash for a moment.....

He's a 2 time MVP, he's led the LG in assists 4 of the last 6 years, over the past 4 years consecutively he's averaged over 50% from the field, 40% from the 3pt line, and 90% from free throw line. He led a highly underrated team to the conference finals last year and he is still going strong today.

So isn't Steve Nash the best PG in the NBA???

No, not anymore. Two years ago, before his injury, I had CP3 ahead of him and now that Paul is back healthy he is certainly ahead of him once again. There are also guys like Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams, and Rajon Rondo that I'd currently place ahead of him. So that puts Nash at number 6 just outside of my top 5.

This isn't a knock against Nash at all. The guy is just getting older. He is now 36 and not the same player he has been in the past. He's still a great point guard but these younger guys have just moved ahead of him. CP3 and Deron Williams have been ahead of him for a couple years now and the other 3 have overtaken him this year.

He's definitely not right now. On the all time list, he may be first among active guys, but at this point he's just a little slower, a little more injury prone, and definitely not a great defender. He's still probably top 5 though. I'd put Paul, Williams, Rose, and Westbrook ahead of him.

I really respect Steve Nash. But he's 36 years old, he's been slowed down due to injury, and he's lost weapons he can work with (AKA Stoudemire). I'm sorry, but to put him ahead of such young talents is ridiculous though, people like D-Will, D-Rose, Cp3, and Rondo have been slowly surpassing him for a while though. Of course, Nash should still be respected as one of the tops point guards...

No. He's not what he used to be. Yeah, he's good, top 10 point guard, but not even close to the more elite PGs in the league right now. Without a STACKED cast of guys around him, Nash isn't all that special anyway. When he won MVP 2 years straight, yeah he was great, but he's a shell of what he was then. This is like saying Jason Kidd is still a top 5 PG, and we all know.... He's not. Nash's time is up, he'll be retiring soon. He doesn't even need to be the best, he just needs to do his job and win some games, that's it.

As for the destinction of top PG in the league, it has to be Utah's very own: Deron Williams. Dude's an MVP candidate for sure this season, and I'll be damned if he isn't considered the best in the league. He pulled together a Jazz team that was struggling, and as a Jazz fan I couldn't be happier. He's led us to 6 straight wins, and is our field general. Temendous talent.
