Stand in the Face of Death: Talk to Dorian Slaughter

Top Guys Out
Trying to become more comfortabl in the blood-stained boots of the Slaughter character, and get a little more active around the fed.

So, questions, comments on the Slaughter gimmick, RPs, etc? I'm open to any and all inquiries, suggestions and discussion.

Just don't be caught flat-footed when the onlaught of death approaches...

I don't get to ask this question often: how are you finding your experiences in WZCW thus far?

What was your motivation for creating a dark character? Are you more comfortable with something more morbid than say, a comedic character or heavily-gimmicked one?

I don't have a ton of history to base my opinion on, having only been here for 2 rounds so far, but I have no complaints with anything thus far.

Creative has been helpful when I've reached out with some minor questions, the shows are well written and very entertaining, the stoylines have depth, and the RP quality is really good.

As to your second question, I've always had an affinity for the darker side of life... I'm a big heavy metal buff, so I draw a good bit of inspiration from that. I like horror films, but wouldn't say I'm a "buff" or "critique", I just enjoy watching them.

I am definitley more comfortable with a dark character, especially still being green to Efedding...the story-telling part of it is still something I'm working through.

What type of heavy metal? Asking because there's like 50 different styles of playing out there :p

What characters in the fed are your favourites and why?

I'm first and foremost an old school thrash fan. Bands like SLAYER, Motorhead, Megadeth, Venom (although they fit into the NWOBHM and black metal subgenres as well), Skeletonwitch, Annihilator, Merciless Death, Rigor Mortis, Sepultura to name a few.

I like some of the "new wave" of thrash like Warbringer, Toxic Holocaust, Warbeast, Havok, Municipal Waste, but some of the newer bands can be a bit too focused on zany lyrics than their sound or message within the lyrical content.

Secondly, I like death metal and some black metal here and there. Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, Lamb of God (although it's hard to fairly lump them into any one subgenre because they're so diverse), an Italian band called Lahmia, Amon Amarth, Children of Bodom, Deicide are just a few that I enjoy in these categories.

I'm also a big Dio and Black Sabbath fan, but I'm not really fond of alot of the bigger name "classic metal" bands like Maiden and Zepplin.

As to your second question, I have been reading every RP in the rounds since I've joined, and I've been trying to dig into some of the older stuff as much as I can. I really haven't read anything that I can say I disliked and that's an absolute shoot, as Russo would say.

The Cerberus RPs are very entertaining, obviously Ty is great, M seems very unique and that makes those RPs fun to read.

I also like the Daggershield RPs for the same reason as M, because they're really different and you really have to focus in to make the connection between Theron's reality and the "reality" that is WZCW.

I like reading S.H.I.T as well.

I'm still trying to familiarize myself with all the characters and what their gimmicks are about, so it's hard to really elaborate on why I like who or what I like, but purely from an entertainment standpoint, those are what stand out in my mind without going back and refreshing myself on the large amount of material I've been reading in a short period of time.

As an offshoot of that, one of the things I'm struggling with is coming up with a "story" for the Slaughter character. I'm not really sure where I want to go with him. I know the gimmick but I'm not sure how I want to bring it to life through actions rather than spoken word. I think I did a decent job of nailing down some history of the character with my SuperShow RP, just not sure if I want to progress with that or bring it into more of a present tense setting.

Perhaps it will come as Slaughter hopefully gets entrenched in some kind of meaningful storyline after KC6, but as of now, the future is sort of cloudy in my mind.

I know you've already said it's hard to elaborate but I'm interested on the perspective of Cerberus from a newcomer.

So in your opinion, what are we doing right, wrong, and everything in between?

So you said you like metal. How about Symphonic Metal? Theron's entrance theme would be an example of this.

As for comments on Slaughter.... he'll definitely be a Dread Necromancer in Theron's world. I like what I've seen so far. Keep it up!

To be honest, I really haven't listened to enough Symphonic metal to form a strong opinion of it. There's a song called Self vs. Self that the lead singer of In Flames did with the band Pendulum that I would probably consider symphonic, but outside of that, I'm not really that familiar with it.

As far as Theron's theme, the music is pretty cool but I'm really not a fan of that type of higher pitched, melodic vocal style like Nightwish. Really the only female metal singer I can say I like is Angela Gossow during her time as Arch Enemy's vocalist. Her delivery was alot harsher than most female metal vocalists, she even incorporated the growls synonymous with death metal in alot of songs. The first time I heard an Arch Enemy song that she sang, I honestly thought it was still Johan Liiva (the male singer previous to the Gossow era). Not to say female vocalists in metal aren't effective or don't have a place, just not really the sound I'm in to.

Thanks for the comments on the Slaughter character, I'm glad you enjoy the work so far.

Cerberus seems like a very effective stable. When you combine the physical prowess and uber fitness of Flex with the pretty-boy babyface persona of Ramparte, you really have a solid foundation for a great team.

Then you throw in the beauty and charisma of Eve and it works well to amplify the pertinent characteristics of the other 2.

The dialogue between the 3 of them in the RPs I've read seems to flow effortlessly and always maintains a sense of a great grasp of each of their gimmicks.

The only negative thing I can say about them is perhaps the RPs are a bit too silly sometimes, but that's probably more of a personal preference than an actual flaw.

Your opinions on what you've seen of the Slaughter character so far or RP style/content? Do you see the character standing the test of time or hitting an early peak and fading out quickly? Any storylines or feuds you think would fit best for Slaughter, say after KC6?

Search: Naked Mideon.

You'll get the reference.

Hahaha, dear god. I kind of fell out of following WWE during the early 2000s, got back into it around 03 I think. I remember the Phinneas Godwinn gimmick and the hogslops or mudbaths or whatever he did, but Naked Mideon, unfortunately, I missed.
