Sport Stars having fun

Hip2bsquare

Pre-Show Stalwart
At the recent AFL best and fairest awards, star Carlton forward Brendan Fevola got into a little bit of trouble for some drunken antics.

Brendan was quite under the weather it would seem. Was meant to do some work for an Aussie tv show, but that didnt go to well. Some quotes from a couple of articles about Fev's behaviour.

Fevola, 28, was hosting the pre-taped Street Talk segment for the Footy Show during the Brownlow after-party at Crown Casino when his drunken antics became so bad he had to be replaced by former Richmond player Nathan Brown.

While taping the segment, Fevola reportedly simulated sex for the cameras, swore while interviewing players and guests, lurched between players and their partners and even knocked a full bottle of beer out of the hand of Western Bulldog Adam Cooney.

Was also reported that he fell into som barricades and tried to give $500 to a waiter for free drinks.

Here is Fev obviously enjoying himself on the old karaoke machine.

So apparently it would seem Brendan had a good time. For this he was fined $10,000. OK that may partially be to his poorish record which includes being caught urinating on a shop window and punching out a publican on a tour of Ireland. However this still leads me to ask. Are we the public and also some sporting administrations too precious on sport stars letting their hair down and having a little fun?? Especially when its their off season as it was in this case for Brendan. If they are not breaking the law should they be treated like the average Joe and be allowed to have some fun?

Of course they are allowed to have fun, but stuff like this is over the top. To act like that in a widely covered event is not acceptable. Athletes have to remember that one of the sacrifices for their glamorous lifestyle is they will always be under scrutiny.

They are all role models so when they are in situations like award shows they should act appropriately. Athletes are some of the few individuals who children respect and aspire to be like, so the athletes should set good examples.

This doesn't mean they have to be boring, they can have nights out with their friends, but they have to control themselves. Forgetting that he is a sportsman he should know his limits anyway. Him acting stupid not only makes him look bad, but his club and the whole sport too.
