Sit Upon The Frozen Heavens
Basically this is a history thread. After I put down the basics of the Storyline, platforms, Release dates & Charcters I'm going to put what I thought about the game. Things like my opinion & whether I've played them or not were gonna start from the begining and end with the last one. Feel free to chime in before I have them all done put please only talk about the ones I have up. If this goes well I'll make a thread about the movies & The books/comics as well.

All info will be paraphrased from Wikipedia.

The Japanese name for the Resident Evil franchise is Biohazard which is what the Japanese characters say, I just thought they looked cool.

Here's the names of all the Games in the order of there release date and the order I will do them in.

Resident Evil 1 (Baiohazādo)
798738-director_cover_large.jpg

Release Date: March 22, 1996.

Platforms: Sega Saturn, PS1, PS3, PSP, PC, DS, GameCube & Wii.

Playable Charcters: Chris Redfiled & Jill Valentine (Player chooses before they start the game)

Storyline: Takes place in the fictional town of Raccoon City on July 24, 1998. A bunch of murders have taken place and STARS Alpha team is sent in to find the missing Bravo team and find out what's happening. They find a missing hand at the Bravo Team crash site and get chased by a pack of Zombie dogs into a supposedly abandoned mansion.

The first thing Chris/Jill finds is a member of Bravo being eaten by a zombie. That is when they realize somethign is seriously wrong and they have to get out of the mansion. Along the way they find out that The Umbrella Pharmaceutical Corporation is conducting illegal experiments with someting called the T-Virus.

They find an underground lab with detailed records of Umbrella's Illegal Experiments. It's here the Captian of STARS Alpha Albert Wesker is a doulbe agent working for Umbrella. He releases The Tyrant (A monster created by long exposure to the T-Virus). The players then apparently kills The Tyrant and a self-destruct sequence is activated.

The player goes up to the roof and calls a rescue Helicopter. Before it gets there The Tyrant comesup through the roof and then you actually have to kill it. Survive long enough and the Chopper Pilot drops a rocket launcher which you will use to kill The tyrant. You then escape as the mansion explodes.

My thoughts: This was the second R.E. game I played after the second one so I knew what the basics were going into it althoughwas surprised at Wesker's turn as it wasn't mentioned inthe second one. The puzzles were fun and the cutscenes had good graphics. I would rate this game but they would all get 10/10 due to the fact I think they are the best games ever made.

Resident Evil 2 (Baiohazādo Tsū)
resievi22.gif

Release date: Jan 21st, 1998

Platforms : PlayStation, Windows, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, GameCube, Game.com

Storyline: You can play as either Leon Kennedy ( a cop who is reporting for duty with the Raccoon PD) or Claire Redfield (Who's looking for her brother Cris Redfield [The guy from the first game]) You start out fighting your way to the Raccoon Police station and once inside you have to fight your way through the hordes of undead zombies as you try to figure out what the hell happened. Once you fight free of the station you go through the sewers, The sewage treatment plant and the Raccoon City Branch of Umbrella's labs all the while fighting zombies and figuring out puzzles.

My thoughts: This game just kicks all different kinds of ass. I've played most of the R.E. games and this one is by far my favorite. I still play it to this day and I love every second of it even after beating it many times.

...Errr, aren't you forgetting the 2 Outbreak games Milenko? And what about Dead Aim?

I agree though that the R.E. games are among the best franchises in gaming history, most of them are absolutely epic. RE 4 is probably the best of the lot, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the first Outbreak game. Something about that game just reminds me instantly of classic zombie movies like Dawn of the Dead. The beginning where you're in the bar is great shit, the whole game is really underrated IMO.

Great reviews Milenko I look forward to the rest.

X I have to disagree with you the Outbreak files were awful games as were the Suvivor games associated with Resident Evil. I understand where you are coming from with the 'dawn of the dead' feel that Outbreak gives you but with the release of this game it seemed like Capcom were just milking the Resident Evil name for all they could. The game could have been made so much better if they would have followed the traditional standard of Resi games, for example instead of having 5 fairly short scenarios why didn't they just create a full differant adventure for each character.

Perhaps I just missed the fun of online as I didn't have online play on my PS2 and all the AI charcters kept dying in stupid ways. I did however like how realistic it was in regards to item carrying, I liked the fact you could only pick up 4 things (8 with the backpack girl. Yoko I think her name was) but overall it just felt like the game was missing something, something that the numbered Resident Evil's had/have.

First off let's all ignore the deadline I set in the O.P. I'm horrible with deadlines

Resdient Evil 3: Nemesis
(Baiohazādo Surī: Rasuto Esukēpu)
256px-Resident_Evil_3_Cover.jpg

PS1 Release Date: Nov 11, 1999

Platforms: PS1, PC, Dreamcast & Gamecube

Storyline: Unlike the previous 2 you can only play as 1 charcater and that character is Jill Valentine. As Jill you need to escape Raccoon City while on the run from the Nemesis an experimental tyrant whose only objective is tol kill all STARS members left alive. During her escape she meets 3 members of Umbrella's Countermeasure Service one of whom does protecting her from Nemesis.

At the end of the game the US Government decides the only way to stop the spread of the T-Virus is to destroy the city with a Nuclear missle. It's at this point the Nemesis makes 1 last apperance and you have a 15 minute coudown to destroy it and escape before the missle strikes. When you do Jill leaves Raccoon City with another former STARS member Barry Burton.

My thoughts: 2 things that spring to mind that makes this game awesome are the Dodge move that lets you avoid or repel enemy attacks and the ammo creation system. This game scared me a lot more than the first 2 due to the fact thet the Nemesis can and will ump out at you when you least expect it. Another things that makes this one different from the first two is the Live Selection Mode thta lets you choose certain actions that will change thoe course of the story. In this game I tried not to die as much because of the randomization feature that is out into the game. Basically what that meas in if you die and have to go back certain enemies and items will change (be put in or taken out). This game was the first to incorperate a lot of the stuff that is standered in new R.E. games and that just amde it different and in some cases better than the first 2.

Good reviews and thank you for creating this thread. Ever since I've played RE4 and RE5 I've wanted to know about the rest of the games so I'm looking forward to your next reviews.

i loved all the resident evil games ever since i was a kid and i think that The original was the best game just because it feels more scary then any other just because your in a secluded mansion deep in the forest compared to the city or even the island from code veronica but the artic base was also scary aswell

Resident Evil Code: Veronica (Baiohazādo Kōdo: Beronika)
1025680.jpg

Release Date: February 29, 2000

Albert Wesker is also on the Island and is responsible of releasing the T-virus on Rockfort. Claire and Steve eslcape Rockfort Via plane but it's on auto-pilot and sends them to another Unmbrella facitlity in Antartica.

While this is going on Claire's brother Chris arrives on Rockfort Island only to realize Claire is gone and encounters Weske. As Wesker is about to kill Chris Alexia appears on a screen laughing. Surprised at seeing her alive Wesker goes to Antartica. Chris eventually finds his way there and is reunited with Claire whis is trying to find Steve.

At the same time Chris & Wesker confront Alexia. Overwhelemd by her strengthWesker leaves and Chris fights her alone. He kills her but she resurects and comes after him again. Chris then activites the facilties self-destruct system in order to unlcok all the doors and free Claire from the prison cell she's in. Alexia appears again this time dieing for good. Chris runs for the elevator spying Wesker taking Steve's body for experimentation due to the fact he's theo nly person injected with the -T-Veroncia Strain. Chris then convinces Wesker to release Claire who runs for the plane. Chris & Wesker then fight each other until an explosion sperates them. Wekser runs away vowing to get revenge and Chirs runs to the plane escaping with Claire as the facility explodes.

My thoughts: It's been a while since I'vep layed this one and I've never beaten it so I can't go into much detail other than to say I really enjoyed this game and it was just as good as the ones that came before it.

On a side note this is the first Resident Evil game that debuted on a non-sony platform. Debuting on the Sega Dreamcast before the PS2.

Resident Evil: Survivor (Baihazādo Gan Sabaibā)
41xd3e-TnwL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

Release Date: Aug 30th, 200

Platforms: Playstation & Microsoft Windows (China only)

Storyline: You play as an amnesiac so you don't know your name at the begining of the game. Shortly after the downfall of Raccoon City a helicopter crashes on the outskirts of Umbrella's private township on Sheena Island. The pilot escapes the burning wreckage and must fight his way through zombies, lickers, moth giants, Ivy plants & tyrans with no idea who he is or what he's doing there.

My Thoughts: Like Resident Evil 3 this has a live selction mode which makes the game unfold diffetently depending on what you choose to do. One thing I didn't like was the fact that it was a 1st person shooter which I have stated aren't my favorite. Other than that this game was ok although not on par with the games that came before this one.

Resident Evil: Zero (Baiohazādo Zero)
Rezerobox.jpg

Release Date: Nov 10, 2002

Platforms: Gamecube & Wii

Storyline: This game takes place before the events of the first Resident Evil. You mainly play as Bravo Team field medic Rebecca Chambers who, along with the rest of Bravo, finds a crashed MP transport with the corpes of 2 mutilated officers inside. The team splits up and Rebecca comes across a train stopped in the middle of the forest caled the Ecliptic Express.

Soon after she gets on she discovers the train is infested with Zombies. After exploring a little bit she finds the man who was being escorted by the MPs to his execution, ex-Marine Billy Coen. The 2 then explore the remainder of the train while battleing zombies, strange leeches and a giant mutated scropion.

As the train speeds towards the edge of a cliff Rebecca & Billy manage to apply the brakes and change course to an abandoned research & training facility. They investigate the facility and are forced to kill Umbrella's experiments; mutated insects, spiders & primates. During their search Coen reveals that his unit was forced to kill innocent civilians of an African village during a civil war against his wishes. He later found out their actions were based on false information.

They soon discovered the former operator of the facility, along with Ozwell E Spencer & Edward Ashford (The guy from the movie) discovered the Progenitor virus which, when combined with the ebola virus, created as train that, despite being photosensitive, caused rapid mutations. Ashford wanted ot help the nadicapped with its regenerative properties but after his death Marcus & Spencer began to research bio-weapon aplications combining it with leech DNA which eventually led to the formation of the T-virus.

After fighting a giant bat inside a church Coen is attacked by a infected primate and is lost inside an underground lab. While searching for him Rebecca meets Enrico Mariniand fights a tyrant before finding Coen washed up on a walkway. After fighting the tyrant together they meet Marcus. It is then revealed that both Wesker & William Birkin (The guy from the second game) were oblivious to what happened o the train and in the mansion, and the real culprit was Marcus, an employee of Umbrella who operated the facility until his assassination by Wesker and Birkin, on the orders of Spencer.

During his dying moments his pet queen leech enters his body and reproduces exponentially over the next 10 years. Marcus then proceeds to split into a mass of leeches and chase both Rebecca & Billy through the facility. Birking activates the self-destrucut system as the Queen Leech, Rebecca & Billy continue to fight. After being injured due to a brief exposure to sunlight, the monster is paralysed when the overhead entrance to the laboratory is opened just as the sun rises. Rebecca throws Billy a revolver and he delivers the final shot to the Queen Leech.

As the facility crumbles, the two escape into the forest and come to a halt on a cliff overlooking the Spencer estate. They salute one another after Rebecca declares Billy "officially dead". Each goes their own way, with Chambers heading towards the mansion to investigate what happened to Bravo team.

My thoughts: Another good game in the Resident Evil series. Another one I've played but never beaten. Graphics and everything were good as was the storyline. After doing this I'm a little sad I sold my Gamecube and all my games. :(

Something new I'll be adding periodically to get more posts
Discussion question: Why in every game so far (except Survivor) do you think they use a buildings self-destruct system at the end?

This goes right along with the criticism I have for this series. I've never found the writing particularly good. The gameplay ranges from decent to excellent and these games practically invented the survival horror genre so I respect them for that, but I've never really found the Resident Evil mythology to be particularly compelling and the dialogue is terrible, especially in the first two games.

I understand that you plan to move on to the Silent Hill series at some point down the line so I'll save most of my comments on this matter until then, but quite frankly, I think what RE started, Silent Hill took and ran with, making overall a far better series.

Discussion question: Why in every game so far (except Survivor) do you think they use a buildings self-destruct system at the end?[/CENTER]

I'd say it's because Umbrella(in the first two games) wanted a back up just incase there was an outbreak, Then they could blow up their research, And reject responsibility. It also gives the ends of the game a bit more drama, And pace.

Keep up the good work Cory, These threads have been good, And informative upto yet. The discussion question will be a good addition to it.

Resident Evil: Dead Aim
(Gan Sabaibā 4 Baiohazādo "Hīrōzu Nebā Dai)
Residentevildeadaim.jpg

Release Date: June 17, 2003

Platforms: PS2

Storlyline: When a large amount of a recently developed hybrid viral agent known as the "tG virus" is stolen from the Umbrella Pharmaceuticals Development Centre in Paris by former Umbrella researcher Morpheus Duvall, Bruce McGivern is sent in by the U.S. government to retrieve the virus and neutralize the threat. The player takes control of Bruce on an Unbrella owned Ocean liner somehwere in the Atlantic Ocean. All the people on the ship haver been infected by the T-virus stolen by Morpheus and turned into Zombies. Your job is to stop Morpheus and retrieve a sample of the Virus

My thoughts: The fact that that is all I found on the game should tell you that this was one of if not the worst in the series. I like the 3rd and 1st person modes it has for looking around & fighting and what I remember of the storyline is OK but all in all I wouldn't reccommend this game to anyone.

Sorry I couldn't find more on the storyline I looked and this is all I could find.

Resident Evil: Outbreak (Baiohazādo Autobureiku)
Re_outbreak_a.jpg

Release Date: March 31, 2004

Platforms: PS2

Storyline: The beginning of the game is set a couple of days after the initial outbreak of the T-Virus in Raccoon City, moments before the crisis erupts into complete chaos. The game starts with the eight characters at J's Bar, unaware of what is happening until a zombie wonders into the bar and attacks one of the employees.

After that the characters must make it through the city alive. You control one of 8 main characters (Yoko Suzuki, Mark Wilkins, George Hamilton, Cindy Lennox, David King, Jim Chapman, Alyssa Ashcroft & Kevin Ryman.) or numerous supporting characters who can be selected in their place. Gameplay events transpire across various regions of Raccoon City and span over a period of several days.

The game ends in the final moments of the same incident, with the player attempting to escape Raccoon City before the US government launches a missile strike to eliminate the threat posed by the T-Virus.

My thoughts: I played this game in passing only once and never beat it. I enjoyed what I did play and I will find this game at Gamestop and play it on my PS2.

Resident Evil: Gaiden
Resident_Evil_Gaiden_Boxart.gif

Release Date: June 3, 2002

Platform: Gameboy Color

Storyline: After the events in Raccoon City, an underground anti-Umbrella organization forms to put an end to Umbrella. Leon is sent to investigate the ocean liner Starlight which is rumored to be carrying a new Bio-Organic Weapon (BOW) developed by Umbrella, but they eventually lose contact with him.

You takes the role of Barry Burton, who is sent to complete Leon's mission. After discovering that everyone on the ship is a zombie, he finds a girl named Lucia. Barry runs to the deck which Lucia is on after hearing her screams and finds her being chased by a BOW which is what caused the infection. After fighting and escaping the BOW, Lucia is kidnapped by the BOW.

Barry then finds Leon unconscious and wakes him up. Barry and Leon cooperate to find Lucia. They find her being held by the BOW. They fight the BOW and save her before hearing an explosion. The ship starts sinking and fire is spreading throughout the ship. Barry runs to communicate with HQ to send them a helicopter while Leon and Lucia activate the sprinkler system.

After they activate it they hear Barry trying to sell the girl to Umbrella. Leon and Lucia find Barry. Barry threatens Leon with a gun and tells him to give him Lucia. Lucia goes with Barry and they both escape on an Umbrella submarine and leave Leon on the sinking Starlight. Leon goes to the engine room and damages the BOW before he destroys the ship and evidence of the outbreak.

In the submarine, the captain asks Barry to give him Lucia. He then finds that she has a parasite which will mature in 10 days and create a new BOW. He threatens Lucia and asks them to remove the parasite. The captain agrees and they remove the parasite.

The parasite manages to escape the jar which it is held and infects everyone on the submarine. They discover the BOW inside the submarine and they escape from it by sealing it in the bay. Barry takes the submarine and heads to the near-sunk Starlight to find Leon.

There they find Leon but it soon turns out that it is the BOW and it attacks them. After the fight they find the real Leon and they run over the deck where the helicopter is. There they fight the BOW before leaving the Starlight. The game ends with Leon's neck bleeding green from a small wound.

My thougths: I've never played this game and I'm not sure i want to. I have a feeling i owuld be underwhelmed by this game compared to all the other ones I've played. Also I'm not sure Resident Evil would translate well onto a handheld console. I may play it just to say I have but I'm not gonna go out of my way to find it

First time I've ever heard of RE Gaiden and liked the review. I wanna ask though, does anyone else think it's wierd that Leon's bleeding green at the end of the game, but is completely normal in RE4?

On the wiki page it said this game was never mentioned in the rest of the series. Why they make the game and do that I have no idea but that's probably the reason for it being normal in RE4
