Resident Evil 5

The Rob

Telling me I'm invincible..
On Friday the 13th (spooky eh), Capcom release the 5th installment in their multi-million dollar mega franchise, Resident Evil. I've personally loved the majority of the Resident Evil games, whether they have been spin-offs or apart of the actually main series, and Resident Evil 4 is still probably my favourite game of all time. However I'm a little worried about this coming Friday when I venture into my local town and buy my copy of Resi 5. You see Resi 4 was just so good! It completely changed my perspective on the series which up to that point, I though was going downhill at a considerable speed. It was amazing to look at, scary as hell and had an addictive storyline that I have completed at least 4 times since. A true classic. But reviewers so far have been pretty critical of Resident Evil 5.

Some are saying that as a single player experience its actually pretty shit and it should only be played in co-op mode, because thats where the game really shines. Also some are saying that the game is too short. 9 hours apparently which is really short considering there is very limited online stuff to play once you've completed the main story. I'm a huge Resi fan and I'm still so excited about playing the game. But a part of me is worried that I may have build the expectations up to high and that I'm going to feel dissapointed once the credits roll. What do you think? And who else will be buying the game?

When people say this will just be an improved version of Resi 4, they're probably right. That's how my play on the demo made it seem. I fail to see why that's much of a problem. Although I'm sure they'll be down points- like not being able to go through the motherfucking inventory while the game is paused - I'll be getting it first day of release.

To be honest in the demo, I liked the fact that the in-game action carrys on when you go into the inventory, it adds to the tension and, at the end of the day, makes you panic, which is what Resi should do. I have my copy pre-ordered and I'm going into town early on Friday morning to collect my copy, then probably just sit in my room all weekend playing it. Also Uncle Sam, if you have a 360 you up for giving me your gamertag and we could have a blast at it online doing co-op?

The only time I get to use Live is round at my mate's place. If he gives me his old router, I might get Live. If I do, I'll probably give you my gamertag. Don't expect me to be talkative. That is a lot of ifs.

Anyway, about the inventory. I get that it adds tension, but it just feels a cheap way of doing so. I remember the amount of fiddling I did with the Resident Evil 4 inventory. If I have to do that as hordes of crazy motherfucking zombies run at me... well, it'll just be a bit of a hassle. As it is, I've pre-ordered it for £30 from Amazon.co.uk. The cheapest I could find it.

I don't talk much online either to be honest.

I've read another review which states that Resident Evil 5 will go down as one of the biggest gaming disapointments in recent memory... yet they gave it 8 out of 10. Basically they were saying that this is just Resi 4 HD with annoying Al partner edition. Now this is worrying because I do intend to play the game solo. I have done so for pretty much every game I've owned and I'm not stopping now. But reviewers are saying that in single player mode, the game is shit!

Reviewers can say what they want about the game, i doubt its gonna discourage anybody from buying it. From playing the Demo on xbox live i cant wait till friday when the game is released, and im sure i wont be the only one. In my opinion i dont think there was much that could be changed from Resident Evil 4 as that hit the top rung of the ladder. Besides i know it will be a great game no matter what the critics say as all Resident Evils (apart from the crap suvivor series) games are.

My copy arrived in the post today. I’m impressed my Amazon Prime. I waited days for TNA iMPACT! when I ordered it from Amazon. Then again, I think they knew what a crappy game it was so were reluctant to give it to me.

Anyway, I daren’t play it yet. I’m waiting for my co-op buddy to come over later. We’ll also be trying to get my Xbox Live up and running. Should we be successful - and we never have been in the past - I may give out my gamertag, just in case any of us happen to be browsing for co-op partners at the same time. I apologise in advance for letting you get axed to death while I fiddled with the inventory.

It was my weekly day off from College today... so I've spent it playing the game. On Chapter 4.1 now and I don't know what I was worried about. I... absolutely... love... this... fucking... game!!!

The story is just starting to get really, really interesting now. Irving is a little bastard and the boss battle against him is pretty great.

Agreed i got this today and absolutly love it. The Storyline is amazing and its fairly difficult and long. i cant wait to finish it. Well worth the £30 i paid for it.

I played it in co-op mode with my mate yesterday. We couldn't believe just how intense the chapter 1 was! Having to peg it away from the zombies in the first street where hordes of them appear, and then later when another horde descend upon the building you're hiding in, and the Executioner then just smashes half the building down, and THEY STILL KEEP COMING!

Anyway, the whole 'heel your partner' was a little annoying, plus you can't just give each other a little ammo, it's got to be in quantities of 30 and of course, it's pretty scarce unless you run through the hordes to pick up dropped ammo.

Also, i got the Machine Gun and just like RE4 it was shit. Mutant dog comes along, and you caneasily drop it with like 5 Hand Gun bullets. Takes nearly a full clip with the Machine Gun!!! And seriously, how many variations of villager are there? You got your average villagers, then the darker skinned ones who are stronger, then the fat, darker skinned ones who are stronger still, AND the women with the head dresses and then the Chainsaw weilding guys from RE4 crop up again as well!

When the first one of those appeared and my mate was quickly decapitated we decided to quit while we were ahead and go drinking.

I'm going to give it a blast on single mode tonight. See how fuckin annoying Sheva is when the computer thinks for her. I swear if she blags all the ammo, i'm just going to leave her to die every time. She want's to hog the bullets, let her fight her own fuckin battle.

Anyway, what i was trying to say was, it's awesome, just as i knew it'd be.

I read all of the review's before I got RE5, Because I didn't play RE3, And I was completely pissed off when I played RE4, When I realised they were using Las Plagas, Instead of the T-virus zombie's. After getting used to RE4, I loved it.

But RE5 is something else, The single player is great, And have no idea why people are ripping on it because it is amazing, It can be frustrating at times, As it can feel as if Sheva is just standing around, And wasting ammo, That along with the inventory problem are the only thing's that can be torn on.

The story its self is amazing, I won't delve into it too much because of spoiler's, But any one who doesn't know who the hooded person from the first time you see it, Is a fool.

By far my favourite boss battle upto yet is the giant crab, That thing scared the shit out of me, And that was prolly the only thing in the game upto yet that did.

None of the bosses seem that difficult tbh. Irving was essentially exactly the same as Salazar (was that the little kid in RE4's name?) in RE4. Avoid attacks, shoot the little human part that remains when the mouth opens, end of. Trolls were the same except more growths to deal with, and thankfully you don't have to run up his back and just cut the fuckin' thing this time around.

Sheva's AI is no where near as annoying as i thought she'd be either. Except she NEVER uses grenades!!!! When you're fighting the villagers with the massive tentacles or what have you spurting from their necks, i'm literally sat there screaming 'USE A FLASH GRENADE, DUMB ASS! INSTANT KILL!!!!!' but no, unless i've got them, we have to waste countless bullets trying to put the fuckers down, or try and find 2 seconds where i can get her to give them to me (which of course of VETERAN, you can't do anyway)

I played the demo, and I liked it. I've got the name now just waiting for my buddy to play co-op with me. I love games that have co-op offline, and online.

OK... I'll admit it, Sheva is starting to piss me off now. I'm on chapter 5.3 and completely stuck on the section where either you or Sheva have to go up that lift onto the upper level where shit loads of Lickers are trying to kill you. Sheva, being the dozy bitch she can be, just stands there, looking up as I'm getting munched. It's only when I'm close to death that she decides to wack out the sniper rifle and attempt a few shots herself. By this point I'm practically dead, with about 2/3 hand gun bullets left and monumentally screwed. Resi 5 is amazing but why does your partner in crime have to be suck a ****** at times!

I thought the game was too easy. its a great game but i finished it with reletive ease. The only pain is
shooting Wesker with the Rocket Launcher at the end before he gets in the stealth bomber as he always seems to dodge it

The hardest thing to fight on the game imo is those Ant thingys that fall from the cocoons. The end boss wasnt that hard either. Me and my friend killed it with a knife.

You're meant to shoot at him from an angle, preferably from the side.

They're intimidating, but it's possible for one person with a pistol to take them out, providing you have good aim.

It's called a Quick Time Event. For the record, it's fucking brutal.

awesome cheers man i eventually did it by using all the ammo for it.

yeah u have to quickly hit the white bit of it on its stomach then on its head then its back. if ya cant get your angle right though it just kills u instantally.

Haha you misunderstand me. for that whole level i had no ammo, so as soon as i got into the circle i started slashing him with a knife untill i could slash away at his red part. i knew the quick time event is the payoff and you have to kill him that way,

So i just finished RE5 on the medium setting. I came sooooooo close to running out of ammo against mutant Wesker that it simply wasn't funny. Fortunately my mate was just ahead of me on Veteran and i saw all the big challenges before i even attempted them, so nothing was particulalry shocking or difficult overall, but i can't imagine how insane it must be trying to take on 30 odd Lickers at once, or fighting soldiers alongside several of the big guys with miniguns AND the giant cockroaches as well, as it does as the game draws to a close.

I guess tonight's the night to crank it up a notch. BAM!

Fuck yeah! I've finally completed Resi 5. Chapter 6.3 on Veteran level is extremely tough, as I found out. It took me 2 hours to completed and I died 28 times. Still, finally finished what is an flawed epic. :)

Me and a mate are currently in the process of trying it on Professional mode. im running around with the Gattling Gun and Magnum hes got the Bo. One hit kill is not fucking funny at all
