Songs That Disturb You

Yeah, simple thread idea, but what songs creep you out or disturb you, and why?

This can be because of lyrical content, instruments, the way things sound, or even for no reason at all. Perhaps there is some big back story, or perhaps you were listening to the radio before a song came on that just hit you. As human beings, we react to different things in strange ways, and one of those ways is with irrational fear.

For me, it's this song:

I couldn't even bring myself to click on it in order to get the code. I had to copy the URL and delete the bits I didn't need. I don't want any part of this song.

There's a story behind this, a real reason why this song creeps me out like it does. You see, the very first time I heard this song was when I was utterly exhausted after a stay at a friend's house. During that stay, I had found a website called Fake A Wish, where you entered your name and it put you into a fake news story. The one I got talked about a "Suicide Site" where I would supposedly do a live broadcast of me committing suicide with some big crushing thing. The picture of "me" in the story was in silhouette, and when you clicked on the site in the fake story, you were taken to a page that said it crashed due to too much traffic. Stupid, harmless, right?

Well, at the time I thought it was. It wasn't until I had gotten home (and heard "My Humps" on the radio) that it really started to hit me how freaking creepy it would be if it were real. In my delirium, I started imagining all sorts of disturbing things until I finally just got to my room and passed out in the bed.

Fast forward a bit. A few weeks later, I'm sitting in the car, when "My Humps" comes on. Immediately, I am seized by a wave of unexplainable fear. To this day, hearing this song reminds me of large crushing machines, and suicide, and delusions.

Not fun.

So, that's mine. What are yours?

Interesting Doc, interesting story... :icon_neutral:

I really can't think of a song that provokes such a feeling, but the one that pops in my head is Roy Orbison's "In Dreams." It's not disturbing, but it is kind of creepy. Especially in this scene here.

This scene honestly make the song sound more creepy than it is. Also, when I first heard this song, I was going through some tough shit and it sometimes brings back those memories. Ironically, I've come to like this song a lot. I love it.

Other than that, I think the song "Down with the Sickness" disturbs me a bit. Not the whole song, but there is a point in the song where the singer stops singing and starts spouting things of a mother abusing her son and then the son gets back at her. Creepy as fuck to me.

You'll hear it at about 3:24.

Firstly, great thread, Doc!

Now, down to business, eh? The one song that immediatly pops into my head when I think about it, is "Chainsaw Gutsfuck" by Mayhem. Now, I am an ardent fan of these guys, but the lyrical content is astonishingly disturbing. Too bad I don't understand what Dead is singing! So, that song is eliminated, as I can't even begin to define what's so creepy.

Then, I really started thinking. And the song that really disturbs me, and even makes me want to hide under my sheets in bed, trembling in fear, is Material Girl. No, not the Madonna version, I could really give two shits about the one. No, no, dear friends. This version is by KMFDM! Tell me, have you ever heard an angry man sing about being a material girl, living in a material world? No? Well, I envy you! It is by and large, the most soul-disturbing song I've ever heard. Have a listen, won't you?

Disturbing, no? I thought so. It's all about the delivery. Madonna singing it= ****ty/oddly acceptable. KMFDM performing it is equivalent to watching a car accident. You want to look away, but you just can't. And then, you suffer from nightmares for weeks.

As for my obligatory honorable mentions:

Barbie Girl- Is there anything NOT creepy about this song? It's an entire single about how much fun it is to be plastic.Get's even creepier when it's sped up by Tsunami Bomb.

Helter Skelter- Oh, why did I list this song? Because it inspired Charles Manson's delusional belief that there would be a race war. Which led to the murder of a promising actress.

Anything by Miley Cyrus, or the rest of the Rodent Patrol- Just because it disturbs me, that a company can lead kids down the prim rose path of complacency and living by what they wish were the societal norms. Also, all the pervy old men counting down the days till the young Ms. Cyrus turns 18. Seriously fellas, it's still pedophilia!

It disturbed me the first time I heard it when I was 14, but I quickly became a huge fan of it as well. It's the most disturbing rap song in history, and I'm of course talking about "Kim" by Eminem. Here's a great video a fan/film student made dedicated to the song:

It's not just the lyrics, but the realism and emotion in Em's voice that takes you aback when you first listen to this incredible song. Never will it be topped in rap, or music for that matter, as far as ruthlessness and raw emotion is concerned.

And to throw another song out there, here's Oingo Boingo's Little Girls

Obviously, the song comes across as pedophilia, but in reality, the song was written by Danny Elfman out of his disgust for all the young girls appearing nude in films at the time. Regardless of that, it's still a truly disturbing song whether you know the backstory to it or not.

It's gotta be Monsters by Matchbook Romance.

I Don't know why, but it's a fucking awesome song...because it's got this strange little riff that permeates throughout, which gives off this haunting theme. Not to mention the video is just fucking strange.

I completely agree with you JMT, I am and have been for a long time a huge Eminem fan, but I have yet to listen all the way through the song "Kim" because of the intensity in Eminem's voice, not because of any of the brutality in the lyrics, but basically because of the constant yelling, I give it to him being able to rap in that voice, but it's not something I would sit back and listen to for the sake of relaxing, or anything really.

And if I'm allowed to choose a song for the sake of the music video, and only the video, because I must honestly admit I like the song if I was just to listen to it, but the music video in itself creeps me out.

While as I stated above, I really like the song if I had to listen to it, but the content of the music video creeps me out, and it's not because I have a problem with men with lipstick or anything, that's the matter of their choice of lifestyle, but it just kinda disgusts me, at least on a guy like Marilyn Manson, and I have always wondered how he got so popular for that very look..

I find this song pretty disturbing. Could be because of the context in which I heard it (in the movie "the Strangers"). It just sends off this eerie vibe, that makes me think of chilling things, such as stalkers and killings. Again, that could be due to the Strangers, however, whenever I hear it, I'm immediately brought to an alarming state of mind where murderers and rapists roam.

Listen to it, and see if it provokes any scary thoughts.

I liked the Relapse album, it wasn't one of Eminem's best, but still, it was pretty good. This is the first song on the album, and when I heard it, I was seriously creeped out. The lyrics to 3 a.m. are so chilling and disturbing. I know Eminem has done some weird stuff like this before, but I think he took it to another level with this song. I was even more disturbed when I found this video because it was so dark. Also, The Silence Of The Lambs reference he uses towards the end of the song is another thing that creeps me out.

He's been mentioned already, but I'll also be using an Eminem song as my answer. It's one of my all time favorite songs, yet at the same time it's very disturbing. The song I'm talking about is "Stan".

I have listened to it countless times since it came out, to the point where I had the lyrics memorized.... yet it still creeps me out today because of the story within the song. Stan's fandom reaches insanity and he goes nuts just from it taking Eminem a while to write him back. Every time I listen to it I get a massive shiver down my spine at that final line of "in the car they found a tape, but it didn't say who it was to, come to think about, his name was.... it was you.... damn....". I love this song, but at the same time, it will always creep me out due to the story in it.

I think it's this...Running up that hill by Placebo

I was sleeping and I woke up...my ipod was on but I didnt turn it on...it was on this song and it sounded creepy as hell in the middle of the night...

Considering the stuff I normally listen to, the people that know me on this site would be asking themselves "what the hell kind of music could possibly disturb Echelon?"

To be honest, there really aren't too many songs out their that truely creep me out, and i've sampled music in just about every extreme genre, Black Metal, Death Metal, Gothic Metal, Country, Pop, Grunge, Punk, Industrial Techno, Gothic Techno. While the vast majority I have enjoyed, there have been a few that have royally disturbed me the first time I listened to them. Here are two such examples.

The Berzerker - Eye for an Eye

Velvet Acid Christ - Haunted (embedding disabled)

A Lot of these songs provoke some kind of eerie feeling when i listen to them. But the song that honestly makes me cry because of how sad this song is, is Dance with the devil by Immortal Technique. I can not find the words to describe this song. That is how much of a powerful impact has on me.
