So Is It Safe To Say The Miz Had The Best Pre-Match Video Package Ever?

James

The Main Event

I remember when I first saw that last year while watching Mania, it reminded me of Dr. Doom, Lex Luthor, and a lot of villains. And as he continued to go through the videos I was like woah, they're actually comparing Miz to these awesome champions. It was the ultimate mastermind scheme and it is exactly what The Miz needed. Then Nas' "Hate Me Now" cues(and I always remember this song as being a motivational theme) and to this day whenever I hear it, this is what I think of. After that he had a nice entrance and he also won with the assistance of one of the best WWE performers of all time.

Can you remember anymore that were similar to this?

-I remember how they built HBK with the whole Boyhood dream message before his match with Bret. Also the pre promo stuff with he and Bret 97' SS.

Is it sad that WWE is doing better at this than the actual building of feuds?

-Is this them trying to let video create the feuds?

It really, really is. I have popped in WM27 on a few occasions just to watch that promo package. It made Miz feel very, very legitimate, you're right, and it's just what he needed. In fact, I'd say it was better than the match itself sadly. I'm a huge Miz fan, but the match is hugely forgettable for a WrestleMania main event.

I, personally, did not order last years Wrestlemania. However, I did just watch the link. I love the "Hate Me Now" song by Nas and have for a long time but I have to say that was/is an incredible package. It is so fitting to his character last year. The WWE production crew usually does, and definitely did get it right with that one. When he was on the borderline from so-so to possible legitimate contender that package, if I was watching in real time, would have made me a believer.

I don't even remember this. but damn... If they could do more stuff like this and make Miz a better villain I'd be a fan. Really good promo.

That was right up there with the Bret vs Shawn WM 12 promos and the Austin vs Rock WM 17 promo, true work of genius that made the Miz seem on par with Cena and the Rock.

Massively depressing to think of how far the guy has fallen since then. I was hoping they'd build him up the past few weeks for a run in during the Rock vs Cena, with either Cena teaming up with him (like Austin and Vince) or Miz just laying both of them out with a steel chair (like Piper in the Hogan vs Vince match).

Absolute waste of the guy having him in the 12 man tag

If there's something WWE does well, it's promo video packages, especially for the big storylines. No wonder Cena gave the top guy a shout out a few months ago... The couple Taker v HBK ones for WM26 were really great, for example. One with Johnny Cash's "Aint No Grave", and another one with Placebo's "Running Up That Hill", iirc.

I think you're all forgetting the Steve Austin/Rock video package from WrestleMania 17. The Miz's video package was pretty sweet, but BEST OF ALL TIME? Nah. CM Punk's was fantastic as well at Money in the Bank.

The Miz is a talented guy, but there's only so much a video production team can do to get him over as a heel. He's just not intimidating. His video package talking about going from the Real World to superstardom would have suited better a face superstar that was living his dream. Instead, they try to make Miz look like a dominant force to be reckoned with, and it comes off as awkward. He isn't scary or ruthless-looking. He's a skinny guy, with no big build, and looks like an underdog. That's why I think he should turn face... but that's a discussion for another thread.

It indeed was a really good package.
it seemed to fit perfectly with how he came in as someone who the locker room thought didn't belong to becoming wwe champion and the fans hating him for it.
the song versus went brilliant with the footage they showed. like someone else stated, it was actually better than the match itself.

No what you have to understand is that no one believed in the Miz. A lot of people jumped on his bandwagon when he became champion. I've been following the guy since Tough Enough and in my opinion he deserved to win. I like how he had that attitude to never give up even though he didn't win. He spent his money to get trained and he went through the harsh beatings the bullying backstage and everything. That promo made haters into believers. Even though the internet is the minority that is the part that hated on him and it made them into believers. While he isn't in a big picture right now, that is cool but this weekend you will see the era start again. He still has a long ways to go and you have to think that a lot of champions went through this harsh treatment. Sheamus got his ass beat over and over. Daniel Bryan did. HHH was in the dog house for almost 3 years. Look where these guys are now. With WWE going through this whole reality change with wrestlers like CM Punk calling people out because they're not the best has really screwed up things in my opinion. That is what brings superstars down. Not Michael Cole he is just an announcer people ignore, but what CM Punk says matters. You never heard The Rock or Stone Cold call each other out saying "Oh Austin you only punch and stunner", "Rock in all your promos you only tell jokes." That stuff doesn't encourage them, it beats them down and makes them underperform. I am slowly but surely realizing that WWE will never be that company that it used to be, but I still have hope that one day some little 22 year old writing assistant can get into the ears of the company and change that. The Rock and Austin had emotion in their promo, but Miz had that plus the anger and intensity. It made you feel sorry for him but most importantly, it made you see that he really had IT!

This indeed was a spectacular package and built him up even better than he was (which in my opinion was really good).
The WWE always does really good with their video packages and the OP has a point in saying ... they are often better than the feud that they are alluding to.
Nice to see this video again. He really did have a very good World Championship reign.

The Miz did have an outstanding video promo for Wrestlemania 27. There's no doubt about it. The WWE really did a great job of chronicling Miz's rise to the top during this video. Miz's tenure as an annoying reality TV star is shown. He a was joke, when he came to the WWE, and nobody took him seriously.

But eventually, Miz rose to the level of the top guy in the company, he won the WWE Championship, and Miz main evented Wrestlemania. Miz was the heel going into this match, but this video package could instantly turn you into fan. Mike Mizanin had to scratch and claw his way to the top, and you can really appreciate his struggle during this video. And Nas' "Hate Me Now" was an excellent choice for the song here. This song made everything feel more powerful, "Hate Me Now" highlighted Miz's passionate anger and frustrations, and this song really did drive that "Nobody said I could do it, but I proved you all wrong!" feeling home.

Miz's promo video was superb, but I don't know if I would call it the best of all time. WWE has produced some great pre-match promo videos, but this shouldn't be forgotten:

The perfect video promo.

Punk VS Cena at last year's MITB pay per view was a big time championship match. Punk could actually leave the company with pro wrestling's most prestigious championship. Punk was going to become a free agent, he could walk right out the door with the title, and John Cena had to be the man to stop him. Everything was on the line, and this video package really did a fantastic job of capturing the serious nature of the situation. This promo package felt shocking, and the editing was just outstanding.

Everyone had something to lose in this situation. Vince McMahon could lose his branded championship, and the leagcy of the WWE was in serious jeopardy. John Cena had to fight for his job, and the title. The weight of the world on his shoulders, the pressure was enormous, and he just had to deliver in this match. Punk's contract was on the verge of expiring, and he did his fair share of bragging, but he had the strong support from his hometown crowd. Failure was NOT an option for Punk. Punk had to deliver, and he really did put himself in an "all or nothing" type of situation. You can get a sense of what all three men are going through here, and this video does an excellent job of showcasing the story from all three sides.

Also, they really did a nice job of inserting the footage from Punk's infamous shoot promo here. They picked out the the important parts, and the dramatic theme music in the background was a nice touch. This video promo had me foaming at the mouth for the WWE Championship match at MITB last year, and this was the perfect tool for providing some hype for a big match.

The video promo for Taker VS Shawn at Wrestlemania 26 deserves an honorable mention, and when you stop and think about, WWE/WWF has created some amazing video promos in the past, so it's hard for me to pick just one as the "best of all time."

Yes, it is. That package was absolutely great, and really describes the Miz a lot. The song fits him perfectly too. I wouldn't mind seeing that as his theme.

I loved both main event promos for WM 27. WWE did a great job with them and its a shame the rivalry didnt reflect the actual hype of the promos.
