So Chris Jericho is leaving again.......

MaverickAZ

Occasional Pre-Show
although this was pretty well known when he came back. Can't help but still feel disappointed. I guess count him with the guys that just don't feel like they need to do the WWE thing 300 days a year anymore. He's 41, so IMO he could still have a nice 3 year run at the top as a fulltime guy. But it is what it is i guess

Odds are he comes back again at some point early next year, maybe for a longer stint?? but with so much focus on Cena, Rock, Lesnar, Punk, even a possible Stone Cold match, anything Jericho does will play 3rd fiddle to that stuff Even his recent feud with CM Punk as kinda fell flat, and in the shadow of Rock-Cena, cena-brock. maybe even Daniel Bryans stuff lately

Still holding out for one more FACE jericho run at the very end of his performing days, that sarcastic jokerster Y2J type could play well off of some of the current roster.

Punk/Jericho had a great match at mania, but they feud really didn't grab my interest until he brought the alcohol into it and made it more personal. I kinda expected him to leave again, and I also agree that he will probably come back one more time. Jericho put a lot of time into the business, and I think he has earned the right to come and go if he so chooses. I would also like to see him come back for one more face run. I think he is being overshadowed right now, but he return did get clustered in with a bunch of others.

This won't be remembered as one of Jericho's best runs in WWE, but it's still memorable in a few ways.

Jericho had a great match with Punk at Wrestlemania, as has already been said. There is plenty of reason to think that their match at Extreme Rules will be the best match on the card, given the event, and the fact that it's in Chicago, a town that automatically makes any Punk opponent seem larger than life in the way they react to them.

Jericho will also be seen as the first real opponent to humanize and make Punk seem like more than just a rough shot on the microphone. Whether the alcoholic/drug addicted family storyline was a huge hit or not, it allowed Punk to develop newer sides to his character, and to add depth.

We all knew Jericho was going to be leaving, and I'll be surprised if he is around after Extreme Rules, unless WWE is really planning to milk every last drop out of the Punk/Jericho feud.

So will Jerico get the same heat the Rock gets? I'm disapointed in the fact that he has made little or no impact with this run. My guess is that if he was going to be around a while, they would have given him the strap and let Punk chase him for a while. I don't think this run has done anything for his "legacy" as a WWE Superstar. Bottom line, they could have put anyone in his spot to try to make Punk look like an drunk. Ted Dibiase would have done good as a heel in that program or Ziggler, or Miz. Jerico really didn't or hasn't done all that much to be remembered at all.

Christ. You guys make it sound like he's going to leave again for another two, three years. Chances are, he'll be written off television for a while and come back at random. There are plenty of WWE Superstars who have taken time off to do projects and came back after the short hiatus. It'll more than likely be an injury or firing stipulation of some sorts. Probably another match with CM Punk. Jericho wins, Punk has to take a shot of Jack Daniels or drink a beer, CM Punk wins then Jericho is fired. Just an idea. Anyway... Jericho is probably not going to be gone long enough for this to be considered one of his "runs". He's not done. Just taking a little time off to tour. Relax, people.

I have been a Jericholic since forever. Since wrestling began, Jericho has been one of my very favourites, whether it was the awesome Jericho in WCW, the jokester Jericho that we saw in his early WWE days, the awesome heel that was Jericho in his latter WWE days in his initial run, or his current heel state, I have loved him.

I admit, this feud with Punk has been lackluster, but the match was awesome at WrestleMania XXVIII, and in the end, if the match does it for me, I am alright with it. But, I have to be honest here, I am getting sick and tired of him coming and going. OhK so Undertaker does it for WrestleMania, but just when Jericho starts getting really good, he leaves. And sometimes, like this run and the past run, it wasn't long enough for my liking. I praise him for being multi-talented, I am a fan of rock, but Fozzy isn't for me, but they are successful, why end it. But, Jericho... something has to give here. I understand touring is an issue, but coming and going isn't what true fans want, is it?

I won't rant saying he is just cheating us everytime he comes, because, every "run" will have something memorable. This one was the Punk match at WrestleMania XXVIII. I hope that he will be back after this hiatus, sure he will be, but the next one will surely be his last. Being 41, how many years will he really have left? I hope when he comes back, he stays 3 - 4 years and has a really good closing run with WWE, he deserves it and we want to see it.

It really doesn't bother me that he's leaving again. Know why? Because we all knew it was going to happen.

I am a Jericho fan, and it does suck that he'll be leaving again around Summerslam. But people need to understand that Chris Jericho is NO LONGER a full-time WWE Superstar. Deal with it! He's not coming back on a full-time basis. Same goes for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and many others who poke their head back into Titan Tower every now and then. He comes back when he needs something to do between runs with Fozzy or appearances on TV shows or in media. It's not his full-time gig anymore. We can hope and wish all we want that he's coming back for good, but people need to face facts. Jericho's done with being a full-time pro wrestler. He's moved on, just like Dwayne Johnson has. I never got my hopes up that he was coming back full time, so it doesn't disappoint me that he's leaving again. People need to take that mindset when it comes to situations like this. Might he change his mind and come back full time some day? Perhaps, but I doubt it. Let's just enjoy this run while it lasts, please. I have.

It's smart business on the part of WWE AND Jericho... we all know the next year is about Rock and Brock... Jericho is doing his duty in helping Punk carry the title feud (and I can see him helping Daniel Bryan before he goes)... He goes off for Summerslam, tours and comes back at the Rumble...

If Taker can wrestle once a year, then Jericho can wrestle half a year... The guy does more good work in that half year than most full timers...

I don't think anybody outside of a handful of Internet fans will remember anything about this Jericho run, including a fine but hardly exciting match at Wrestlemania (I watched it, I don't remember much from it). It was a disappointment all the way through for me.

Well i was just dissapointned Y2J Vs Punk at extreme rules isnt a ladder match. why not?

As for jerichos run he should of won rr then he wouldnt of lost at EC and then put punk over at Wm28 then he would of won 1 ppv and lost 1... not 3 in a row.

This last run jericho had was umm shall i say lackluster!! It didnt start getting good till he brought up alcohol and punks family into it. While thats a touchy issue and i say i really dont agree with it im looking forward to this ER match more so than WM. Onto the topic at hand IMO jericho has earned the right to do whatever he damn well pleases.

Yes of course i wish he was around full time he is in amazing shape for his age not beat up like the undertaker is and really takes care of himself rather well. If we see Jericho only for half a year to me thats better than nothing at all.

jericho is multi-talented and although i have never listened to one lyric of Fozzy obviously the band is doing well enough for main stage. Jericho has helped Punk leaps and bounds and i hope too see jericho after ER like around RR time!!

I have to disagree with everyone's opinions on this being lackluster.

The only reason why everyone's said it is because of Rock/Cena Cena/Brock taking place over these past few months. Jericho's return was brilliant. He didn't say anything.... he finally talked right before the Royal Rumble. Everyone thought he was going to win that match... a curve ball got thrown and he didn't. He was then focused to beat Punk in the EC... also didn't happen but Jericho technically never finished that match. The lead into Wrestlemania was done quite well with the match itself being a big payoff. I saw a great match. Regardless of the result of that match, I saw one of the best technically sound matches I have ever seen. They did their job of giving the crowd a chance to relax and cool off prior to Cena/Rock. Both men deserve a lot more credit.

As for Jericho now against Punk in this next match up. The second match between them... I expect something to happen that isn't expected. Do I think Jericho wins? No, but he won't lay down either.

This run has been great for Jericho. He hasn't had to win to keep his momentum going. He still has the edge he's needed to keep pushing for the title.

Think about it that way...

Doesn't really bother me. As another poster said, I knew that he was going to be leaving at some point before the summer was over. All in all, I've got no complaints about his feud with Punk. While it hasn't gotten the same sort of epic treatment as Taker vs. Triple H and Cena vs. Rock, I didn't expect it to. Those are two mega money feuds, Punk has only been truly elevated to the status of solidified main eventer for probably about 6 months or so and Jericho has never really been a mega draw but it someone that's always been dependable for killer matches & promos.

Jericho came back because he wanted to, he's said that many times. He wanted to work a high profile feud with CM Punk and he's currently doing that and, in the process, only making Punk an even stronger champion than he's been. Jericho is a guy that's devoted his entire adult life to pro wrestling and one of the very very fortunate few to have not really suffered mega injuries. He's never torn his ACL or quads like Mysterior or Nash or Triple H, he's never torn biceps like Batista or pecs like Cena or had neck problems like Angle or Benoit or concussions like Orton & Foley.

However, while he's still in great condition and a relatively young man at 41 in the grand scheme of things, the fact remains that he is getting older and at a point in his life where he has other interests and things going on outside of wrestling. If I'm not mistaken, Jericho is said to be back after his tour with Fozzy ends, so it's not like he's going away for years.

I dont know why many are surprized by the news, and by Jerichos performance. He was'nt going to stay around for the whole year obviously. I'm surprized he's going to be around until Summerslam, I thought we was going to be gone after this Punk fued.

I wonder why it took awhile for people to realize this run he's on would be not as impactful. Once he came back and week after week not saying a word, while everyone had a hard on calling it genius, there should've been a notion that the run was going to be lackluster. Also, by WWE not connecting the whole "End of the World" video to his return I felt the videos were pointless. Now his silent return wasnt all bad, but the lack of a trash talking fued we all expected made his return almost a waste. I agree with the poster that said DiBiase, Ziggler, or Miz could've did the work with Punk doing the same alcohol angle.

Lastly, I dont feel people should feel cheated by him leaving again. Jericho has put his body on the line for decades now, and has a solid body of work. This is a grown man with a life, and he's done enough for this business to do as he pleases, much like the Rock.

It doesnt bother me in the least bit. I rather someone be with the company while they feel passionate about it than stick around for 2-3 years and not give 100%. This already isnt one of his greatest runs (imo he should've stopped after the whole Save Us gimmick) and I think they'll find a way to make it seem like RAW isnt lacking something significant after his departure.

I guess this isn't a popular opinion here, but I was a huge fan of his current run. He gave us a Royal Rumble that we ALL thought he was going to win, which gave Sheamus a rub. He made the Elimination Chamber better, because again, we all thought there was a fair chance that he could win. Then, he gave us the best technical match of Wrestlemania 28 with Punk, which yet again, a good number of people picked him to win. He has repeatedly put Punk over while humanizing him, and I expect the Extreme Rules match to be stellar, despite the result being predictable.

I'm not sure what else I could ask for.

I hate that wrestlers get ANY heat for perusing other careers, I mean congratulate friends who break out of something when it no longer appeals to them and follow their dreams as it will. With Fonzy, it's a creative passion, more so then acting in an endless stream of soulless cash grabbing movies & I can assure you Jericho won't be making nearly as much money from this band schtick as he does from Wrestling.

I would have to agree with a lot of people here, his in-ring work has really been good to watch in all his recent returns he clearly still has it in the ring. His promos still work great as well but I guess it's getting old for me personally.

I was a massive Jericho fan but it seems every year now he returns for 3 - 6 months before disappearing again. Then another year goes by, a strange set of videos begin to appear then he returns again.

I have no problem with what he is doing, he has earned it with his career but if they are going to continue to bring him back do it well. Make it a surprise a big out of no where twist, I guess I am just getting bored of the whole [Video + Video + Video + Lackluster Return] way of doing things.

Well, it shouldn't bother anyone that Jericho is leaving again, everyone knew that since the begining, it was expected, a lot of people have said that this Jericho run isn't good, i agree, ok, his fued with CM Punk is getting better, but i don't think he puts the effort that he used to, it kind of looks as if he's back only for the money, i could be wrong, but that is what it seems to me......

It was a short run but at least Jericho was on TV pretty much every week unlike other guys.

These short runs are WWE's fault. They're so desperate for star power that they'll willing to accept that guys will only be around for a short time.

In a way, it's kind of like the old territory days when the big names would come for couple months, work a program, and then leave as someone was coming in.

All that said, I can't say that I've enjoyed the Jericho/Punk feud. It's been pretty stale. They're trying to be edgy with the whole alcohol thing, but it's not really grabbing me. The match at 'Mania was underwhelming, and Jericho's character is bland. There's just no fire to him.

While it's always great to see Chris, this current run won't be his most memorable one by far. His feud with Punk is entertaining enough, but it's not special. His promos have some nice intensity, but they also seem a little artificial and weird. Why should anyone believe (or care) that Jericho can push Punk towards alcoholism? The whole thing doesn't really make sense.
All in all I can't help feeling that his heart isn't fully in it this time. A lackluster run.

In a way his current run reminds me of the Rock's last guest appearance before he disappeared for 7 years - nice to see it, but deep down you feel you're ready to move on.

I think Chris Jericho is doing the right thing in leaving. He will almost be 42 by the time SummerSlam comes around and whilst I am absolutely certain he could still go every single night required of him as a full timer, he is no spring chicken anymore, and as you get older as an athlete - you tend to become more injury prone. Y2J has never been seriously injured (thank god and lets hope he never is), but he is doing the right thing for himself and fair play to him for that. Having read his books, he always wanted to be either a rock star or a Wrestler. He has been blessed to be able to do both, and he can also spend a bit of time with his young family too.

Additionally, as and when he wants to return, he can do so and be more of an impact with viewers and storylines and create exciting matches, whilst also allowing his body to heal up from any minor nagging stiffs and pains.

People get upset about HHH, HBK, Y2J, Rock, Brock and Austin making "guest" or special appearances, but these stars were there in the aftermath of the old school and saw what burn out did to the old generation wrestlers. Most old generation wrestler praise this approach as well.

Id like to see all WWE superstars get a clear break of at least 1 month a year if not 2, for them to keep fresh and healthy and have a decent worklife balance. (I am chartered in Personal and Development and its always over looked for a worklife balance) It would keep storylines a bit fresher and keep the wrestlers healthier.

I'm a big Jericho fan so it's definitely going to suck once when he leaves again especially so soon. This wwe run won't even last a year if he leaves before Summerslam.Thing is I wonder if they'll give him the title asap now so he can have a short reign as WWE champion for a short while before he leaves or will they just use him the whole time to put people over as they know he's leaving soon.

I actually made a video discussing this topic a few minutes ago
