I've seen a documentary about it, and i would love to read your thoughts...
Smart Comedy is usual represented by Woody Allen, with "Manhattan" and "Annie Hall" being is best work...
Also smart comedy can be linked with Charlie Chaplin, Leslie Nielsen, Robin Williams, Rowan Atkinson and Others...
The Cohen Brothers and The Big Lebowski are a great modern example of a good smart comedy, as well as Juno...
New Generation or Teen Comedy is represented by a lot of new guys, like Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, Seth Rogan and more...
Probably the most known movie of this genre is "American Pie", that brought the new type of teen comedy and a forced laugh (Jim fucking a pie)
We also have "The Mask", "Norbit", "Grown Ups", "scary Movie", "Epic Movie" etc...
The critcs doesn't like the new comedy movies, they tend to say that is to forced and that they don't think in the plot, but only in the laugh for stupid and childish things...
My Opinion:
I love the New Gen Comedy, they are from my generation, and a Woody Allen movie doesn't call for my attention, they are boring, it is definitely not the type of movies I would see if I want to laugh...
Movies like "The Hangover", "The Fockers", "Superbad", "American Pie" are great comedies, we could put a 500 people in a room re-viewing these movies, and they would still laugh pretty bad...
Which genre do you like the most? Smart Comedy or Teen Comedy?
What is the best Comedy Film that you have ever seen?
Who is the best comedy actor?
