Actually, rep DOES mean something---but in the non-spam section. If you have your rep points built off of your [non-spam] posts then your rep will show that people think of you as a quality poster. Vise-versa, if you have red rep or zero alter, than chances are, people think of you as a shit poster.
I always believed rep [from the nonspam section] reflects on how well of a poster you are. Rep means nothing because it is vastly over-exposed in the spam section. Usually, for making someone laugh or even chuckle, they will rep you. Since this happens often, you have guys that get repd real fast and end up with high rep quick. Thus, reducing the meaning of rep overall.
When really, rep SHOULD be ment to reflect how much of a quality poster you are---not show how much people think you're funny or have the ability to pwn somebody.
Examples of my theory are Ferbian and Jack-Hammer. These guys spent most, if not all of their time in the nonspam section posting day in and day out. It's safe to say most of their rep is built from the non-spam section ('specially Jack-Hammer). Therefore, it's also safe to say that their rep reflects how good of a poster they are or at least how much people like them. And considering they have [at least] over 2,500 points built off of only nonspam sections, it says alot about how good of posters they are.
...Yea, so I was bored and decided to post my thoughts on rep for no particular reason.
