Sid; Sid Vicious, Psycho Sid; etc....

The Idiot

Getting Noticed By Management
-This is a guy who got into a fight with Brian Pillman, ran away, and then came back armed with that most deadly of weapons.... THE SQUEEGEE!

- This is a guy who got into a fight with Arn Anderson, ran away, came back with scissors and stabbed AA numerous times

- This is a guy who had a pet squirrell, was dared to put it down his pants, where he then got bitten on the ballsack

- This is a guy who, during a live broadcast, flubbed his lines, then said 'Dammit... start over' to which JR said 'We're live, pal!'

- This is a guy who said 'You're only half the man that I am, but I only have half the brain that you do, week after week, you try to make me look like a jackass!'

- This is a guy who thought that it would be a good idea to kick out of Hogan's finisher, in a main event of WrestleMania

- This is a guy who no showed numerous events he was booked for, to play softball

That's why a 7ft tall, 330lbs Sycho Sid Vicious/Justice is seen as a bit of a punchline in Pro Wrestling.

The build, the look and the character. While some may argue about whether he had talent or not...the first three arent debatable. If Sid had his head on straight who knows how far he could have made it in pro wrestling.

What are your thoughts on Sid? A fan...not a fan? Do you think he is HOF material?

Discuss.

I remember being a young boy in 1992, and I remember being frozen by how awesome Sid was. I'm talking around the time of the Royal Rumble. Some of those brutal squash matches, and the way his character would act and look was just unbelievable.

It's funny reading all of the criticism for the main event of Wrestlemania 8, but back in the day I remember just not even being able to fathom the awesomeness of Sid and Hogan in the ring together for a match. It was like a dream match. Had to see it. Absolutely had to. It was like Tyson vs Holyfield. Two killers. Then when it happened it was just surreal. Looking at it now the match sucked but back in the day it was defenitely main event stuff.

I also remember later on when Shawn won the stap off of Bret I wasn't very happy about it. I hated HBK. I cheered for Sid when they fueded. He was the anti HBK, and I loved it when he would kick Shawn's ass.

Would have enjoyed it if he would have stayed in ECW long enough to do a fued with Taz, who was the top guy, and didn't really have anyone to fued with.

Looking back I was always a fan of Sid even though he put on shitty matches, and was an overall goofball. He was an interesting character. His over the top intense promos from the 1995 WWF run are hilarious too.

I'm a Sid fan. He's believable and that is something I always want in my wrestlers. He had great intensity and and made me believe what he was selling. When booked properly I thought he was good enough as a worker.

FWIW, the kicking out of Hogan's finisher at Wrestlemania isn't clearly true is it? I thought that there was a discrepancy on whether he botched kicking out or whether the run in was botched (too late) and he had no choice.

His run in WCW was good in my opinion. It's too bad he had no one to work with by the time he had the strap in WCW. Had Benoit and Bret still been around they could have really done some good stuff.

I was a fan of Sid's throughout the 90's. He had the look, the talent, intensity. Yet somehow something wasn't all there with him upstairs. He was a former world champ, but at the same time his actions both on and behind the scenes leaves a lot to be desired. I saw the WCW Sin PPV where he broke his leg, and felt for him. But his attitude towards fans can be mighty shitty, especially considering that there's folks that are still willing to pay to see him perform. Unfortunately he's probably at an age where he won't change his way of thinking.

haha awesome thread I've been wanting to make one about sid, and this ties in good with what you said cause my question was gonna be how did Sid become so successful anyways, did the hire ups really like him? I ask that just cause im so amazed just by the face that he actually got to go over HBK at the time that he had a huge ego, and then he was champ a few times in WCW, and he even beat Nash, it seemed like nobody outside of the few kliq and Goldberg held the title in WCW yet somehow there was Sid kicking Nashs ass and getting the title. HOW I ask of all people, HOW?!?!

BTW to answer your question, when I was younger I was the same way I loved Sid, face or heel I just that he was awesome, even now I still like him hes kinda a guilty pleasure.

I'll always have a fondness in my heart for Sid because of his WCW days when I was younger.

The day I found out that wrestling was fake was a WCW event in Atlanta, Ga. My father and myself went out before the main event to use the bathroom and while we were wandering around we saw a black curtain. We open it up a little and see Sting and Sid talking to each other(presumably about the match).

For a young fan, Sid fits the mold for a villain and the younger crowd wont care or be able to keep up with all the funny things he's done in his career.

Sadly though, he just has no wrestling talent and zero ring awareness what so ever. I feel bad for Kevin Nash having to take a powerbomb from Sid in one of those tiny steel cages and almost breaking his neck :/

He has the image, but that's about it.

I always enjoyed Sid, but in all the feuds mentioned I rooted against him. He was larger than life, but I never cared for the master and ruler of the world line/gimmick. After he got out of the spotlight he became somewhat of a joke, and he did do some pretty off the wall things. All in all he did what he was supposed to do in the ring, and that was be dominant. I liked him as a big time opponent for the fan favorites.

Yeah, despite the bad rep he's created for himself i am a fan of his in ring persona whether it be as Sid Vicious, Sid Justice or Psycho Sid. He's always been credible and has been entertaining to watch. As for the HOF, i could see him being inducted some day i don't see why not

I most definitely am a fan of Sid! Mainly because of everything you've mentioned above. As for the HoF, yes I most certainly think he is worthy of the honor. He's done a lot and deserves it. He is and always will be a giant goober. And I mean that in the best possible way/

I thought it was a well known fact that, at WM8, Charles Wright (Papa Shango) was late with his run in which is why Sid and Hogan had to start improvising.

Watching Sid's promos and matches had a similar appeal to me as watching MTV's Jackass - I didn't really want to see it, but when it was on I couldn't help stare in disbelief and choke back bitter laughter. So yeah, an argument could be made that I was a fan.

Does he deserve to be in the Hall of Fame? SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH. I want to say no. Alas, Koko B. Ware is in the Hall of Fame. And can anybody argue that Koko belongs in there and Sid doesn't? Sid main-evented Wrestlemania twice, won the WWF title twice and the WCW title twice as well. He does belong in the what-the-hell-were-we-thinking-section of the Hall of Fame.

for me atleast he was one of the most believable characters on TV, he looked evil, he gave off an aura of "Try Me", and you later find out he really is a schitzo.

other then his flubbing of his lines he was definately passionate and did some of the best heel promo's ever, in that respect he was on the same level as Jake the Snake and Triple H as total soulless heel promo.

best promo
The game we play is simple, two men enter, one man survives. <insert sinister crazy laugh>
Open your eyes, look at what you're looking at, see what you see
you see the power <points to palm> it's the power bomb....
and noone gets up from that.

For i am the man, the master, and the ruler..... of the World!!!

I used to love Sid, as a matter of fact, he uttered one of my favorite lines of all-time prior to his WM8 match with Hulk. To Mean Gene, "Shut up you fat, bald headed little oaf!" Is Sid HOF worthy? If Koko B Ware is HOF worthy, everyone is HOF worthy.

Always loved Sid and wished he had longer more sucessful runs in the WWF. When people talk about the evolution of the buisness Sid is a great example of a man ahead of his time. Mostly a heel, he got over with fans and was cheered in many situations that he wasn't supposed to. He would have been a good asset for the WWF during the attitude era because he was just that, attitude.

Since you put it that way, yeah Sid is a big ole goober but I continue to be a fan. As a matter of fact, I've been a fan since long before he was any version of the "Sids". Back in the 1980's, in Continental Championship Wrestling he was "Lord Humongous" (possibly the original). He's always had a powerful presence and no matter what he said or how idiotic it was he always spoke with that drawl and intensity. When Sid entered a scene you knew he wasn't there to play a game of duck-duck-goose. The accident with his leg is enough to land him in the HOF. If that's not making it look real nothing is. There have been many many many wrestlers who weren't the usual athletic talent but they've been quite entertaining.....*cough cough* Abdullah.

Sid doesnt belong anywhere near the HOF. Does DDP belong in the HOF ? Heck, Lex Luger has a WAY BETTER CASE to be in HOF, a much longer career as a top draw and main eventer, and at least when he wrestled against Flair he had multiple 4 & 4.5 star matches.

I remember Sid when he broke in USWA, he had an awesome look but his ring skills seemed one dimensional. During his initial WCW run his interviews became boring and his ring work declined. Still he main evented vs Sting and joined The Four Horsemen. WWE threw considerable $$ at him and got more lousy matches and barely memorable promos. When it came to Creativity Sid made Brett Hart look like Roddy Piper. In the ring he made Luger look HBK. After he was fired and re appeared, only to be fired again in WCW I lost all interest in this guy. Anytime after that either promotion prominently featured him I didnt watch, I knew this was a lazy guy (by the mid 90s you already heard stories about Sid no showing to play softball or being lazy in the ring).

By the time he resurfaced in WCW in 99 I knew the company was on its death bed. You have Goldberg, Savage, Nash, Hart & Flair & Sting and you bring in talentless unmotivated Sid - your mgt team had to be smoking something.

Sid is an example of the worst in wrestling, a guy who made millions while giving nothing and contributing less, only because he had a promoter friendly look.

So Hogan liked to change match finishes and didnt put enough people over, Hart & Austin take themselves too seriously, Flair partied too much, Sting never wrestled in WWE, Angle had a drinking problem, HHH benefited from his connections, but you know what, every one of them did more and the industry benefited more from each of them than Sid and it aint even close.
