Should more (if not all) PPV's be given their own individual theme music?

As you know we are just over a week away from Money In The Bank 2013. A PPV famous for two things:

  1. Making careers
  2. Being the only PPV to have it's own theme music, rather than being changed every year (with the exception of the first one in 2010)

So my question is; Should more PPV's have the same theme for each year? Jim Johnston I'm sure is a very creative man and could come up with some good ideas for theme songs, each with their own unique twist depending on the occasion.

Wrestlemania - Something uplifting and inspiring (along the lines of Chariots of Fire)

Hell In A Cell/Extreme Rules - something a lot more hardcore, bordering on the edge of heavy metal (similar to 'Going Down' from Extreme Rules 2009)

Those are just two examples, it's late, I can't think of any more

That or keep the song performed by a 'mainstream artist'. I for one liked the use of 'Champions' by Kevin Rudolf for Night Of Champions last year.

I used to love the way WCW did PPV's. Bash at the Beach, Great American Bash, etc. I thought they were beyond anything the WWF had going besides Mania and Royal Rumble. I would definitely like to see more themes and outside events.

Nah. For every Ladies and Gentleman (WM23), there are like 15 We Are the Enemy's (old SD! theme). The thought of locking in a potentially bad theme is scary. Plus, it'd get old really quickly even if the theme was good.

I don't think it really matters. Themed PPV's to wrestling fans are irrelevant. The themes really don't have any bearing whatsoever on the PPV itself or the matches it yields. They all run together in our minds and remember them with certain matches and certain events. I remember the Royal Rumble, for the Rumble. I remember Mania for the grand spectacle. Etc, etc, etc... Every PPV having a theme is just forcing things and doesn't cause storylines to run smoothly. Why do you think WWE did away with Breaking Point, Fatal 4 Way, Cyber Sunday, etc...? Because they grow old or are just awful ideas in the first place.

Making every PPV have a theme would be like having a 36 week school year and every Mon-Fri is spirit week. It grows tiring after awhile and people stop caring.

Read the original post people, not just the thread title. This is the type of shit I'm talking about when I get sanctimonious about standards and education. I can't be the only one who got the test in elementary school that had the instruction at the top which read, "DO NOT ANSWER ANY OF THE QUESTIONS." Then, after two-thirds of the class handed it in filled out, and the teacher went on to tell everyone about how it's important to read everything and understand what you're reading, otherwise it can lead to failure.

To the OP- no, unless the song is just a perfect fit for the event, as is the case with the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

Not many people would really notice or care to be honest.

Two ppv's had their own themes way back, No Mercy and Armageddon had their own theme for several years, I liked both of them but overall it's not something that really matters.

I get what you're saying, and it makes sense. I remember Rebellion had its own theme song, and it was pretty cool, but with outside music made by proper music artists, it gives each years event a little more originality. Not taking anything away from Jim Johnston, that man is a genius when it comes to theme music, but you can't just put a piece of music on an event and expect people to associate them two together.

I will admit that hate mainstream music. It sucks, especially nowadays, but sometimes this music fits each event, whether it be based on the theme for the pay-per-view, or the area it is in. For example, WrestleMania 29 had "Coming Home" as one of the theme songs. The song sucks, but it made total sense as WWE was going back to the New York and New Jersey area, and when put onto promo's, it was sort of chilling. Another example was when "Propane Nightmares" was used for Cyber Sunday. The backing track to the song fit the event's internet and technological theme very well.

Basically, WWE can go down this route, but it wouldn't make sense. As shown, when WWE gets good music in, when it fits the event, then it works out very well. At the end of the day, it is only the theme song. WWE fans should be watching for the wrestling, not the music.

I suppose I should apologise for not making it clear in the title, it was only after the initial editing period, that I realised my stupid mistake.

When I say theme, I mean THEME MUSIC.

My apologies for any confusion caused

I don't think that the PPV events should have permanently assigned theme music. Even though a good number of the songs they use are nothing to write home about, we every now and then will get great ones such as Jet Black Stare's Ready To Roll. It is an opportunity for bands to get their material more attention from potential fans. If you see a PPV that had a cool theme song, did it make you want to go buy the CD? If that's happened at least once, then the use of different theme songs served its purpose. Using the Jet Black Stare example again, when I heard that for hype videos going into Summerslam 2008 I immediately went to go purchase the album to hear more from that band. It isn't the only time this has happened.

Yes, we risk having songs that suck at any given PPV event.... However, if every single PPV brand was assigned a theme song we run the risk of ALWAYS having to endure a song that sucks when watching that particular PPV brand. Would you want to see one of the Big 4 events' prestige tarnished by some song no one really liked one year returning the next and every year that follows? Even Extreme Rules and Hell In a Cell deserve better than that. What I'd rather see instead is more variety. Use every music genre. There are artists in rock, rap, pop, country, and even techno that could benefit from helping WWE by providing a PPV event's theme song. Keep it different for each show. It's better for the bands involved and it prevents fans from getting stuck with a PPV that has a song as bad as Smackown's former song Know Your Enemy on a more permanent basis.

I still say no. The only real reason being is that music today is so mind-numbingly awful, I couldn't tell you what the music for Payback even was... if it had any. I don't think many other people could tell you either. And it's going to be probably almost 3-4 years before the general audience POSSIBLY realizes they've used the same theme music for that respective PPV in the years prior. The theme really doesn't have any bearing on the quality of the PPV so you might as well switch it up based on feel of the PPV and to give some little upstart band some exposure. Or some band that has already had their time and is on the decline clinging to every bit of exposure they can garner up.

The reason the MITB one works is because many people remember it more as Trump's music. He's got a ton of money, Money in the Bank PPV... it just sort of fits. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that even goes away next year.

The only one I can remember vividly is WM22 and Peter Gabriel's "Big Time." That's mostly because that's the loop music playing on the menu and I heard it so many times while I fell asleep watching my WM22 DVD, it's just engrained in my head. But from the DVD. Not because of the event itself.

It's an intriguing idea, if like Wrestlemania, they did more then one theme song for each show.

It's simple really, so I won't belabor the point. Use one song, as long as a PPV is in existance, as the "staple" for the PPV. Then use a second song, a newer one, as the theme song for the PPV as well. WWE gives decent exposure to new bands/songs that haven't been heard before, and while the music isn't essential to the show, hearing the same song year in and year would grow tiresome. But using one song year and year again would bring a familiarity to each show, while using a second song would allow for the show to grow as the years go by. Having just the same theme song for the same PPV would be like going to a restaurant, and finding just one thing on the menu on a given night of the week, and never deviating from that. It would grow tiresome after awhile.

Heck, I'm sick of the MITB theme song already.
