Shelton Benjamin or X-Pac?

Ya know..I was thinking back to some memorable upsets in the WWE..They don't happen all too frequently as of late but two have jumped to mind.

It was May 17th, 1993. It was Monday Night Raw.It was Razor Ramon versus The 1-2-3 Kid..Sean Waltman had been, basically, a jobber to the stars at this point(then again, so were The Hardys when they started)....He hadn't really found his calling and some doubted it would ever happen.

Razor Ramon, however, was in the midst of a monster heel push..He was one of the WWF's top heels at the time and was just a few weeks away from facing Bret Hart in the King of the Ring Tournament and many thought it'd only be a matter of time before Scott Hall wore WWF Championship gold.

Then came the match..And as predicted, it was a squash..Razor had The Kid beaten several times but decided to toy around with the youngster..Ramon put a beating on the 1-2-3 Kid for several minutes..Then, in one quick motion, The Kid had knocked Razor down..It was the opportunity he needed..The 1-2-3 Kid quickly ran up the top turnbuckle and connected with a Moonsault, PINNING Razor Ramon for the 1-2-3..The win catapulted Sean Waltman and at the same time devastated Scott Hall...Hall lost his first round match against Bret Hart and eventually turned face after his brief feud with the 1-2-3 Kid..While both Scott Hall and Sean Waltman have seen their careers skyrocket since that match, both playing key parts in Wrestling's Two most storied factions, Scott's career hasn't really lived up to what it could have had he won that match..If he hadn't lost that match, we may not be sitting here saying "What if Razor Ramon had been WWF Champion".

The Date was March 29th 2004, almost 11 years to the day of the 1-2-3 Kid's upset..It was Shelton Benjamin versus Triple H.Shelton Benjamin had just been drafted to Raw the week before after a successful tag team career on Smackdown.

Triple H, however, is Self explanatory..He was the leader of Evolution, a 8 time World Heavyweight Champion at the time, and was in the midst of a bitter rivalry with then World Champion Chris Benoit.

Then came the match..Earlier in the night, Triple H was livid at how the Raw lockerroom reacted to him being drafted to Smackdown the previous week..Now that Triple H was back on RAW, there'd be hell to pay..One of the victims, was Shelton Benjamin as he was attacked by Triple H and Evolution. So Benjamin went to Bischoff's office and demanded a match with Triple H. The match was granted and Main Evented Raw..Triple H and Shelton Benjamin went back and forth before Ric Flair arrived to help out The Game..This brought out Chris Benoit to even up the odds..Toward the end of the match, Flair nailed Benjamin with a right hand as the referee was distracted..This caused Chris Benoit to come over to chase Ric Flair off..This distracted Triple H as he went to the corner to yell at Benoit..All this allowed Shelton Benjamin to hit Triple H with a huge Stinger's Splash and rolled him up for the 1-2-3, scoring probably the biggest upset since that famous 1-2-3 Kid/Razor Ramon match.. This win led Benjamin to a couple of Intercontinental Title reigns and decent feuds with Randy Orton, Carlito, Christian, Ric Flair, RVD, and competing in the Money in the Bank Ladder match and having one of the longest IC Title reigns in years before his heel turn and a pretty good one after it with Momma Benjamin but he hasn't quite been able to break that glass ceiling, much like Razor, due to his lack of passion and drive. If dedicated, much like Carlito, Shelton could be WWE Champion. Triple H hasn't been affected much by the loss..He went on later that year to claim his 9th World Championship by defeating Randy Orton, and has since become a 10 time World Champion by winning the Elimination Chamber at New Years Revolution for the Vacant World Title. Evolution later disbanded but Triple H turned face and reformed DX with Shawn Michaels in 2006.

My question is..Which do you feel was the bigger upset?Which had the bigger impact at the time and Which had or has had a bigger impact on the careers of the Superstars involved?

I would have to give to X-Pac aka 1-2-3 kid. Back then it ment more than today. A lost to HHH means a boost. So whomever the WWE wants to push, they call in HHH to give it to them. Let's face it, anyone who faces HHH becomes popular with the general fans. Back then, all the headliners would not allow such a thing. In my opinion.

Compare Benjamin to 123 KId well you simply cant! Benjamin has a lot more Talent than 123 kid and he has alot of Talent!
Benjamin Created the Bigger and better Impact!

This debate is kind of hard, because they're both talented. X-Pac definately has the edge in charisma, mic skills, and experience. Shelton is a better athlete with unlimited potential. I think the 1,2,3 Kid made more of an impact with his upset though, but Shelton will end up being a bigger star.

X Pac's was bigger because he was a nobody. Shelton had held the tag titles on smackdown. He also fueded with Eddie and Chave Guerrero. Eddi wasn't WWE Champion yet, but he was still a big name. Shelton's was just to start his singles career while Pac's was to begin a career. I'd hate to say it but John Cena's first WWE match almost equals the Pac?Razor match because he was a nobdy who almost beat Kurt Angle on Smcakdown! and gained Undertaker's respect.

I disagree with the post above for 2 reasons.

1. When X-Pac did it, it was a different time in wrestling. Jobbers NEVER beat Superstars.

2. John Cena didn't win.

i say u cant even put 123 kid on the same level as shelton. sheltons speakes for itself but his upset wasnt bigger simply because he is a champion caliber wrestler which the 123 kid was not

My Two Cents: I've always, always been a big fan of X-Pac. Almost everyone I know always hated the guy, which might have been one of the reasons he was so appealing to me. The guy was one of the best heat getters in the WWF back then, the guy could play a perfect heel. Not to mention he was always a great member of DX to me. But when it comes down to ability and overall talent in wrestling, I'm going with Shelton Benjamin because of what I've seen him do. I've seen maybe two or three other people be able to jump from the canvas to the top rope like it was nothing, and they're all phenomenal. Shelton's got a grace in the ring I haven't seen in a while. The only problem with Shelton is his mic skills, as he isn't very solid when it comes to that. I think if the guy just went to TNA honestly he could be handed an angle that could have him in the top, the guy is crazy good in the ring and every one of his matches I look forward to.

X-Pac is good and all...but Shelton Benjamin is magnificent.

Sincerely, Obnoxious Shelton Benjamin Mark

As for which was the bigger upset, for me it would have to have been the 1-2-3 Kid. It was even a clean win! I know I didn't see it coming as for me he was one of those repeated jobber wrestlers at the time (like Brooklyn Brawler and the guy that kept patting himself on the back... sorry for my lack of knowledge!).

I much prefer Shelton as a wrestler and I thoroughly enjoy his matches.

What's so special about shelton benjamin? A lot of guys can do what he can do in the ring. So he's basically just a nobody.

I think the Benjamin/HHH match was more of an upset as HHH was at his prime and Benjamin was still only a rookie.
