Seiya Sanada Says He Wants to Join TNA as First W-1 Inter-Promotional Talent

It's Damn Real!

The undisputed, undefeated TNA &
This from TNA Insider:

In an interview with Tokyo Sports, Wrestle-1 star Seya Sanada, who just signed with W-1 a few days ago, says he wants to join TNA as the first W-1 Wrestler to participate in the two companies inter-promotional talent agreement.

Sanada recently paid his way to Mexico to train and accept independent bookings while the turmoil between All Japan and Wrestle-1 boiled over. Sanada made an unannounced appearance at Wrestle-1 and only just signed a contract with the promotion. In the article, Sanda is said to have approached TNA Founder Jeff Jarrett in hopes of coming to TNA.

Seeing as I know next to nothing about W-1 or international wrestling in general, I'd love to know a little more about what kind of wrestler this guy is.

Thoughts on him being an inter-promotional talent?

He's nothing special from what I've seen. He's a little on the smallish side, about 5'11 and 215 or so. Mostly a tag wrestler when he was in All Japan, then he jumped ship with everyone else. Doesn't really stand out in any way.

Maybe if he incorporates some lucha from his training in Mexico he'll stand out a little more, but till then, he's another bland Japanese junior.

Wrestle-1 is Keji Mutoh/Great Muta's promotion and it isn't setting the Japanese wrestling world on fire at this stage but it has some alright talent. Sanada is one of the better ones but from his AJPW work I've seen he isn't anything special and he wouldn't be an asset for anything more than being an overseas talent, but not an overseas talent like how Jushin Liger would be received.

Sanada was one of two really promising rookies a few years back along with Manabu Soya. He was also the first All Japan Television Champion. By American standards he is small but has a ton of potential. He wrestlers a bit stiff but good in the ring. If anything, he would make a good addition to the X-Division.

As far as Wrestle 1 goes, it is made up of wrestlers who left All Japan this year. Keiji Mutoh/Great Muta took most of the roster except for a few major players. The company has only had two or three shows.

As everyone above me has said W1 is Keiji Mutoh's new promotion that he made after leaving All Japan. W1 took about half of All Japans roster when it was formed. W1 also gets people who are either free lance wrestlers or makes agreements with other promotions to borrow some of their wrestlers. He currently has a deal with TNA and Jeff Jarrett recently wrestled there as well. Also, two more unnamed TNA wrestlers will be appearing on there next show as well. Its being said on the dirt sheets that's Jarrett was really impressed with Sananda.

Sanada is a decent young talent. He's not flat out amazing, but he's not bad either. I'd say he's an OK to good wrestler. He's also very hit or miss a lot of times as well. I'd much rather TNA brought in Shuji Kondo, Hiroshi Yamato, KAI, Masakatsu Funaki or even Mutoh himself then Sanada.

That's one of the issues with the Japanese scene right now. If you're a smallish guy who stands out, boom, you're picked up by New Japan. Muta knows what he's doing, and I think Wrestle-1 will pick up some steam in the next few months, but Sanada is bland.

Muta can hardly move anymore, his knees are pretty much not there anymore.

Funaki would stiff the hell out of virtually everyone which is fine with me because grumpy old man Funaki is the best Funaki.

I always thought KAI was better as a junior heavy, his injury problems seem like they really ramped up when he put on that extra weight.

I like the idea of Kondo being in TNA, he'll bring the fire and intensity without beating the daylights out of everyone like Funaki would.

Yamato is way too small to be credible in TNA right now. If they emphasize the Ultimate X stuff again, he'll blow the roof off though.

Just based on what I've seen of 'em anyway. I'd pay to see Funaki beat the hell out of TNA's roster though.
