Santino can't wrestle?

Pre-Show Stalwart
Ok, so on this weeks edition of Monday Night RAW, Chavo Guerrero came out and wrestled Santino.

Santino acted like he was wrestling The Big Show.

Why did Santino act like he didn't know how to wrestle? I mean Vickie Guerrero looked more experienced than him.

The whole elbow and punch thing was SHIT. Why did he punch Chavo like he a woman and then look shocked?

HE WAS WRESTLING THE EXTRAORDINARY JOBBER CHAVO!??

Anyone have any ideas??? Im lost with it..

It's simply part of his current gimmick. If you remember Santino on his debut from the audience, back when RAW toured in Italy, he very much knew how to wrestle, and wrestle good mind you.

I'm pretty sure Santino can be a great wrestler. He's just playing his part for his gimmick. It's quite comical. I believe eventually he will be put into more matches where he's actualy wrestling. To me, he was quite impresive Monday night, because I personally haven't seen him wrestle remotely good. Santino is becoming a great fan favorite too. Now if he's put into actual matches to where he's wrestling good, and winning matches the right way, his fan base may become even bigger. So for him acting surprised, it's just part of his gimmick.

There's a difference between knowing how to wrestle and applying that knowledge in a practical sense. You can stand in a ring and practice a move one million times on a guy that's willing to take it but that doesn't mean that when push comes to shove in an actual match you'll be able to execute any move you want on an unwilling opponent.

Santino plays the role of a coward who talks big but can't back it up. He'd rather manscape than hit the gym. He has amazing comedic timing. He can tell a funny story just through his actions. Besides, by trying and failing or trying and succeeding through luck it gets him over as a lovable loser.

I think there are times when we as fans need to just get lost in the action and stop being so logical to a fault. Yes, we've seen the face, boring Santino who first won the IC title thanks to Lashley wrestle much more competently than the current Santino. But so what? That old Santino wasn't over with the fans. That old Santino had no personality and got booed while Umaga killed him at Night of Champions. It's best for everyone involved to push the old Santino to the back of our minds.

Then you missed the whole point of his gimmick. He's played the cowardly heel for so long where he's been a jobber for everyone (including the divas) that now they're slowly turning him face and part of that is him realizing he can, in fact, wrestle. I think it's hilarious. Santino is the best part of the whole WWE right now.

It's a gimmick, and plus Chavo is not a jobber, he is a former ECW Champion, Crusierweight Champion, and Tag Team Champion, so he is no jobber and remember he has beaten former world champions in Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, and CM Punk.

I like Santino's current gimmick, sure it means he will never be world champion, but it's one of the entertaining things in the WWE.

Santino can wrestle but they don't let him because of his gimmick. As long as he is a comedy act, they will never let him show his wrestling capability and that's not necessarily a bad thing. His match against Chavo was essentially nothing as Chavo is soon reaching jobber status but as long as he is with Vickie, he'll get a few wins here or there.

I actually think this is the best way to get him to slowly turn his character into more of a wrestling role. We all know he can wrestle (and wrestle well), but he's been in this gimmick for so long...they cant simply just have him "snap out of it" and start wrestling for real again. If they are going to work Santino into more of a credible wrestler again for the future, the only way to really get it to work and look credible is like this, rather then "all of a sudden" start wrestling good again.

Makes me wonder what they plan on with Santino. He's obviously WAY over with his current gimmick. The fans love him, he's good on the mic, and everything that involves him is comedic gold IMO. They can actually continue with this gimmick or try to add more to it with having him actually be credible in the ring. And I believe they are going to go that route....try to keep his comedic relief going by also re-establishing him as an actual "wrester".

Should be fun to watch.

I think Santino has potential to become bigger than The Rock. His personallity just oozes amazement. Now maybe I'm wrong by the simple fact of some people have said (Beth Pheniox) we only see him for 3 minutes a week while she gets to hang out all week with him, and hes not all that funny. But from what I've seen each week and week out, Santino oozes charisma. Hes hillarious, and from what I've heard/seen when he first debuted can wrestle fairly dominantly. Hes got an MMA background if I'm not mistaken as well. Santino can easily become a legitamate wrestler if this is true, while keeping a comic gimmick.

Then, quite possibly, becoming bigger than the rock. A good wrestling match, in the end, is what its all about. Thats enough to make it into the midcard, but Santino's mic skills are peerless. Good Mic skills are very hard to pick up on, Santino seems to be a natural at the mic, so why not give him legitimate wrestling abilities storyline wise? It would be effing awesome anyways. Well, even more so than what he is now.

So are we talking pure wrestling talent here? Because Santino has that, and more. His former gimmick is proof of his techniques as a wrestler. He even is an awarded Judo fighter in Canada. Now if one were to look at his skills in the ring there is more proof. Sure he has jobbed out many times before, but is he ever choppy in the ring? No, he jobs smoothly, and makes others look incredible when they face him, from men to women. That is what pure wrestling skills should be about. Sure he isn't dominating opponents, but that is not his character.

He can wrestle, its just his gimmick. I agree, I hope WWE can bring all aspects of his character, personality and wrestling ability into one and we'll have an extraordinary performer each and every week.

Wouldn't go as far as Chavo/Santino as a jobber, it's just the gimmick. Want a real jobber? Go back to the days of the Brooklyn Brawler. That guy's wrestled EVERYBODY.

I think given the chance, Santino would amaze some people with how good he could be. He is a legitimate martial artist who had some great matches coming up out of OVW. That was unfortunately overshadowed by the Jim Cornette face-slapping fiasco.

As for right now, Santino's role on the show is to bring the comedy. The chance to show how good a of a wrestler he can be will come, for right now, he is just the funniest thing going on RAW.
